I just bought my second Pinguicula pimuliflora (Southern Butterwort) from Logees. My first one died withing a couple of weeks. It seemed to rot, which is rather strange, because it is a bog plant. I kept it in its original pot and placed it in a saucer of tap water. Does anyone have any idea why this happened? I sure would like to keep this new one healthy.
any experience with butterwort?
I have one, and got it to flower this past winter. It was preparing to send up another flower shoot when it did something similar to yours: it acted as if it were starting to rot. I pulled it from the pot and let it dry quite a bit, then repotted and put it back under its dome (a juice bottle with the bottom cut off). For the next month or so, I didn't add any water to the saucer. The parts that looked rotted finished rotting and fell off, but the rest of the plant stayed healthy. I've since reintroduced water to the saucer, and have seen some new growth.

Hi dearchaser, I have 2 pings, both of mine have bloomed for me. Here is a good link to learn about pings and other Carnivorous plants

I do not give tap water to my plants, that will kill them and so will fertilizer. I give mine distilled water or rain water and I water mine every 3 days in the summer and once a week during winter and cooler months, also about the soil, this is what they say at cobraplant about what type of soil they need."They require nutrient-free soil that provides excellent drainage and is slightly alkaline. Use a soil mixture of 1 part peat moss, 3 parts perlite and 1 part vermiculite. Another option is to use 1 part peat moss and 2 parts perlite. Never use potting soil or fertilizer. Potting soil and fertilizer will kill your plant".
Here is another link on how to take care of them.

Hope this helps

Thank you both for the info. Amalie, you mention how often you water your plants. Does that mean you don't have it sitting in a saucer of water? I will try the links you gave me.
There's also a Carnivorous plants forum here, you may learn some good tips & tricks over there.
ok! thank you very much!
Your welcome deechaser....
