Dear friends,
I have recently bought some plants but I a m not sure how to combine them at the end of the garden. I would be very grateful if somebody can give me some ideas. Thank you so much in advance.
The plants are followings: 3 nandina Fire Power, 1 cryptomeria globosa nana, 1 taxus baccata (bigger than the cryptomeria and round), 2 juniperus Andorra, 1 ilex (conic form, 1 camelia (rosa colour), 3 azaleas (fuchsia colour).
Thank you so much in advance!!
Best wishes
How to combine
Marita,
I assume all your plants are in pots? If so, you can sit them in the area where you want them and just move them around until you find an arrangement that suits you. I find it so much easier to do this than trying to visualize it in my head.
I agree with Naturelover, if your plants are in pots, just place them, not too close as they will grow up and out, some much slower than others, but once you place them as a group, step back or go indoors if you are to look onto this area, and see what it looks like, not happy, then move them about, this is the fun bit of gardening, it would help if you know the final height of each plant at maturity as some will definitely grow large as it matures, but anyway, with proper care, all plants can be moved after a few years, so dont make it into a science, make it into a lovely planting area to enjoy, if you find you made a mistake after this year, just dig up with a good root ball and replant, good luck and enjoy your work. WeeNel.
I am very grateful for your advices. I have tried to do so as you say and in a few days I will send you a nice phot with the results!!.
Many thanks WeeNel and Nature Lover 1950

Hola, Marita. Please try to analyze why you bought the particular plants that you did. Did you fall in love with them, did you "see" them all living in the same area, or were they just on sale? What is your gardening style? The round brick structure (sorry, can't tell if there is a barbecue there or what) has severely shaped shrubs that make me think it is rather formal, but the rest of the garden looks beautiful and wild. The plants that you purchased seem to me to have different requirements for sun, and it looks like you have some areas of deep shade. Was this photo taken at sundown? I see you have a rose garden, so there must be a lot of sun at some point in the day. I love your trees---what variety are they? I may have to come over there and help you with this little project!
Another thing, Marita. As someone else said, remember some of these may get quite large. I'm thinking of the camelia. Allow lots of room for growth--really study the plant labels as there can be a HUGE variation between species. I have nandinas that are over 10 feet tall (more than 3 metres), and I don't think the labels even promised that much. Some types are dwarf. You do NOT want to try to make the plant fit your space against its nature by aggressive pruning. Buena suerte!
