Willow Tree

Hi, I am looking into planting some willow trees in zone 9. We have a 15 acre ranch which has no pond, lake, nor swamp. We don't get too much rain here so, I'm wondering if this type of tree will grow in our area? I love the beauty of a willow tree and I hope to be able to plant some soon. Any input is greatly appreciated!

Are you in Florida? Texas? Arizona? California? There are a lot of zone 9 locations in the country that have drastically different climates from each other so it would help if you could narrow it down a little farther.

You might consider Australian willow (Geijera parviflora) or Desert willow (Chilopsis linearis) instead. But if you're in TX or FL (or other gulf coast states) I'm not sure how they do with humidity. And I'm not sure how Geijera does in AZ, I know it'll grow in CA though.

I am located in Texas. The humidity here is not high although, the heat index can reach as high as 115*. The ground here is pretty dry but, can be moist if watered on a daily basis.

Both Geijera and Chilopsis don't need much water, that's why I suggested them since it sounded like you didn't want to be watering constantly. I know Chilopsis can take the heat since people grow it in AZ and other desert-like locations, Geijera I'm not sure about but I suspect it would be OK as well.

The Chilopsis is grown in Phoenix as a street tree. No water unless it rains, very sandy soil, no fertilizer, etc. It gets about 20-25' there and blooms nearly year around. It's a beautiful tree.
