The Go Gardening contest with great prizes

angele, just press enter after typing in what you're searching for. It's also faster and a good habit to get into for all forms. It works on Google, etc, as well and any other online form.

dave

Thanks! My hubby watches me & tells me the same thing! I don't know why I got into the habit of keeping my hand on the mouse & clicking on the search icon in Google. I've read it takes 30 days to form or break a habit but I bet I could do it quicker if somebody would just smack me. ;-}

New Hampshire, NH(Zone 5b)

Thanks for extending it Dave! Now I have lots of garden centers to visit in May!!!

Happily ^_^

Westford, MA(Zone 5b)

Dumb question -- how do I add photos to existing reviews I've done in Go Gardening? I don't see a link or way to do this. I only see a way to add an additional comment with a Preview button.

Thanks!

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

There should be a link just below "post a review of this entry" to "add a photo to this entry"

Westford, MA(Zone 5b)

Ok -- I see. When I go in through Daves Garden->Products and Sources->Go Gardening and find the place -- I do see the Post a photo link. However if I go in using "My Info->Go Gardening" and click on a review that I already entered it brings me to the gardens.com website and then you can only post additional comments. There isn't a way to add photos. It is not a problem since I can get to the photos using the first method.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Sorry - I should have been clearer about where I was accessing the links, but you figured it out ;o)

I just now fixed the member pages, so they will show the correct links (here at DG rather than Gardens.com). So you can now access your reviews either way.

Watertown, WI(Zone 5a)

What an awesome contest idea! Feeds my addiction to traveling around and visiting nurseries. I'm looking forward to contributing.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

On the Members page, I don't see a list of new entries or images we've added, just the comments and ratings. I am assuming that includes the images but I would love to be able to see a list of where images were added and new entries too.

Saint Cloud, MN(Zone 4b)

I am in on this one!!! My kids want the PC but no way!!! :o)

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

I did one! LOL We don't have that many close to us for me to even get close! HA HA HA Σ§:oP

Saint Cloud, MN(Zone 4b)

LOL-is there bonus points to working out the Long and lat??
I hope my entries are coming in OK. I am working my fingers to the bone :o)

Silsbee, TX(Zone 9a)

What a fun idea and thanks for the extension for us northerns. I've already listed our whole 2 nurseries in the area a while ago, but I'll have to do some more exploring. I know there's a few Christmas tree farms around here and a farmer's market. Oh, there's also a little farm that sells pumpkins and they don't even advertise anymore. Ok, now I'm on a roll! ;-)

Westford, MA(Zone 5b)

Fun contest! I've been motivated to add various entries this past week. Nothing like an incentive to get people moving. So I was wondering if you considered adding a "Historic House with Gardens" category to Go Gardens? I have visited many such historic properties that also have a garden attached that is worth visiting (i.e. Monticello, Newport Mansions, etc.). I have been putting these under "Public Gardens" however it just seems weird to be under this category. Also is there a way to edit an entry to select more categories? For example if I notice that a place also has a Farm Stand or Pick Your Own operation these can't be added later.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

You can send updates/corrections to us via the "Contact Us" link - be sure to include a link (preferable) or at least the name of the entry that needs correcting.

I wish there was a way to add a short note to our entries because I just added a nursery that is only open by appointment and it specializes in native plants. I can't review it because I haven't been there yet.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

yeah, I always thought it would be nice to add a neutral note like the PlantFiles when I just add facts but do not personally grow the plant.

Newport News, VA(Zone 7b)

Are we still limited to one category per shop? One of my local farmer's markets is also a pumpkin patch in season, and has a nice little nursery selection as well. One local nursery also has a wonderful and popular cafe and gift shop area. One local mom and pop store is also a hardware store. I have a difficult time categorizing some of them!

Laura

You can check all that apply. :)

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

I never got an answer to my post above. I wanted to be able to see a list in My Info of where images were added and new entries too, not just where I made rating comments.

Westford, MA(Zone 5b)

As well as Calif_Sue's suggestion: Is there a way to see what resources we added in the GoGardening? I have added some resources missing from GoGardening but have held back reviewing them until I go again this spring. So now I am trying to remember what resources I've added!

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Exactly, I would like to be able to view the list I added so I can later return with either pictures and/or a review.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Calif_Sue, I agree that the images you added should be listed on your member page. It's a to-do for Dave.

We've always shied away from listing the GWD (and now Go Gardening) entries we each create, for a myriad of pretty boring reasons - once an entry is a few weeks old, I don't have any way to even know who created it ;o)

But you can always look up the entries nearest you (using your ZIP code), since those are the ones you most likely have visited, and browse around that way.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

yeah, I have been doing that but I also have toured garden public gardens and nurseries in other states so I have been adding images for those as well. I am becoming a numbers/stats hound I guess LOL

Sure is fun doing these, I end up coming across all kinds of new-to-me entries that I wish I had time to visit!

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Oh, isn't that the truth? The names of some of these nurseries are so clever, you really want to see for yourself if they live up to that initial impression!

And the botanical gardens...sigh. I keep telling Dave I'd be ecstatic to become a globe-trotting garden ambassador for DG, and tour every park and garden in the world. (Of course...if I did that, then my family would have to learn that the laundry fairy and the food fairy are NOT real, or they might find themselves hungry and nekkid.)

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Well, if you ever get that OK from Dave and the family, I'll volunteer for taking pictures and we can be a globe-trotting DG team! Anyone else?

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Oh absolutely - I need a good photographer in tow (I can spot the plants I know we don't have info or photos in PlantFiles, and I need someone to get the great shots!)

I'm sure we could find stuff for a few others to do...anybody interested??? hehehehe - we can dream, can't we?

I have noticed I search harder for local nurseries and gardens when traveling since we introduced this feature. Fortunately, DH is a good sport and will tag along (as long as I give him golf time, he'll escort me to all kinds of out-of-the-way nurseries and gardens ;o)

Ripon, WI(Zone 4a)

Me too, me too - I'm more than happy to carry camera equipment, paperwork, etc. around!!!

I have updated the member pages to include all three items:

Entries created
Reviews posted
Images uploaded

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

All right! Thanks Dave! ^_^
Even though all 3 say "Comments and ratings" I can figure out which is what.

Ahh, I fixed that ^_^

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

You da man!

:)

Rose Lodge, OR(Zone 8b)

Oh, I want to play too. Chicago is not a horticultural mecca these days, but it DOES have a proud history. And maybe even critical reviews could produce fruit as Dave's little Web site begins to take on the gravitational force & mass of the moon?

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

Ahh but Chicago may not but there are other places in Illinois to look at..they have pick your own places, and the U of I has stuff on their campuses.... mom and pop places for plants.. oh geez when is the cut off date? I may have to dig out some photos for a place back in northern Il and so some checking to see if the places I know of have websites or not and dig the addies out of the phone book I brought with me now

May 31st is the cutoff date, plenty of time. :)

2 more days! If you're going to add your local nurseries and post pictures and reviews, now's the time!!!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Bummer, I never even saw this thread. It is my own fault that I didn't find it until now.
I was going to spend the hot summer days catching up with adding plants and pictures to plant files. I will have to do better next year as I never miss a nursery when I am traveling.
