Purple Fountain Grass

I planted Purple Fountain Grass last year and it was beautiful. Two big plants and a BEAUTIFUL display of color and plant. It is now March and the plants have died back. I want to know if I need to dig them up and put in new ones or just leave them, after being trimmed..... Will they come back. I live in Merced, CA. 95340. Thank you, Virginia Hall

I'm not sure exactly what zone Merced is in, but I would guess maybe 9a? If so then they ought to come back for you. Even if you're in 8b there's a decent chance they'll come back so I'd give them a little more time still.
