I have some MG, already mixed, left over from last summer - is it still good to use?
Last year's Miracle Grow?
Don't think you will find an expiration date on MG - lol.
This was something you mixed up yourself? If that's the case then I'd pitch it. If you buy the stuff that they sell pre-diluted then the stability of it is guaranteed for at least a year (unless they put an expiration date on it) but generally when you mix stuff up yourself you ought to use it pretty quickly. Especially if it saw some hot temps in the summer and cold temps over the winter I don't think you really know what you have anymore, so you're better off making some fresh stuff. (Also, it ought to tell you somewhere on the original package how long it stays good for after you mix it).
Good question!! I bought some on clearance last year with that fancy mixer thingy and plan to use it this year. Figure it is more than I have ever done before so even if it has weakened it will be more than my garden has ever gotten LOL
Peg--if yours is still in the package it ought to be fine. I was worried about SCNewbie's since it had already been mixed up in water and left to sit, but if it's in the original package it came in and you didn't dilute it up yet it should still be fine.
Yeah!!! I am wanting to pamper my babes this year ;) Do you have experience with Messenger? I bought some of that in a co-op longer than a year ago and never used it. Think that will still be OK?
It should be OK unless it's been opened or exposed to extreme temperatures. Products like that are registered with the EPA and their active ingredient concentration has to be 90% or more of what it says on the label after a year under normal storage conditions or else they need to put an expiration date on the package. So if there's no expiration date, then you know it's going to be good for at least a year (and since the active ingredient doesn't self-destruct as soon as it's a year and a day old, you can imagine that you could still have a workable amount of active ingredient for a while after the year is up). However, this rule only applies to the product in unopened original packaging--if you let it sit open it can go bad much faster, same thing if you dilute it in water, etc. Also if your storage temperatures are very high and/or very low (like storing it in a garage or shed that bakes in the summer and gets very cold in the winter) that can make it go bad faster and it might not even be good for a whole year.
It is all still in the little packets but has been stored in the garage so it might be somewhere int he middle of good and bad I guess. I will still use it and maybe get some new with the Mighty Plant if I think I can be diligent about using it.
Thanks for all your info!!!!
Thanks, guys. :)) Mine was the one I had mixed myself last year, so I tossed it & just picked up some of the pre-mixed on sale.
