Daily Pics ... Vol. 73

Beautiful pics everyone! Adel I especially like that Spotted Towhee. He is a fancy one!
I was late for my roadrunner lunch date today & instead of waiting for me across the street he was waiting for me on my garden wall. He was taking a sunbath while he waited. He got his treat :-)

He is so darn cute angele!!

Your Roadrunner will be in the house helping himself next angele, lol! He has character.

This little Robin hopped around on my pots and didn't seem to notice me, it has a lot of blue on it. Not the clearest shot, it was very close and I snapped quickly.

I'd like to get a better shot of this Pheasant, it ran into the grass. It has very different colour and marks to the other one.

I forgot the California Quail on my last post. Looks like they are gaining weight again.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

All the photos are wonderful!!

It started out at 61 degrees this morning but it started to rain around 10 am. Had has been raining since and the temperature dropping. Freezing rain is perdicted to start around 4-5 am tomorrow morning.

I got this Canada Goose on the pond just down the street. Not real clear, as I am standing in the street taking the photo between houses!

Great pictures everyone!

Here is my very first robin spotting of the season. Hooray, perhaps Spring will arrive here one of these days.

He was perched way up on the roof of my garage. Guess he was scoping out the territory.

That turned out nice w/ the green roof.

I stood on the back porch for a few minutes w/ the camera today and my female
Red-bellied Woodpecker came to the feeder but would only give me a few glimpses of her. I cropped this pretty heavily so I'm curious to see if it looks any good.

Pelle the crop of the red-bellied WP looks real good.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Yea...Pelle is back! And looking good too!

Melbourne, FL

The close crop didn't seem to hurt much. Love the eye on the Woodpecker.

Oh my gosh Pelle, you captured her perfectly.. just look at that eye!
Congrats on the robin spotting GG. Yea!
That's Goose is such a beautiful creature Nanny. Beautiful shot!
Adel those quail are very close to the Gambel's Quail we have here. We are supposed to have thew Scaled quail too but I've never seen them though I believe NMJane has posted pics of them.

The Eastern Bluebirds were back again this morning going in and out of the nestbox. Unfortunately the weather has turned back once again and unable to take pics. I also noticed a House Sparrow went into "their" box and the male BB went in and chased him out. I hope the BB's win the battle. Here is a pic I will share from yesterday of my "girl with an attitude". Would like to see a catch light but can't have everything!

I don't know if he is "wing-waving" or not!

LOL Rose.. I ♥ your Bluebirds!
(In case my symbol doesn't show up on some computers it is a heart)

Dacula, GA(Zone 7b)

Pelle, great feather detail on that WP crop.
Rose, that female BB really does have attitude. Hope they nest in your box. My neighbor has them every year, so I have BB envy. I have 2 boxes out, but they don't even look at them.

Great pictures everyone. They make my day.

I have a handful of individual favorite birds. A Thrasher, a Verdin, a Roadrunner and a Cactus Wren. This fellow is my favorite favorite. His name is Pete the pyrrhuloxia. I love him because even though he is bigger than many of the birds that visit my yard he is so very gentle yet not timid. He will sit on a branch right next to me. He flys over to see what I am up to in the yard. I have never seen him fight over the food. I'm going to post two pictures of him. This one from day-before-yesterday with a finch. Pete was at the pear first. The finch came over & gave him the eye. Pete didn't fight or leave. They just ate together.

Today I wanted a photo of a bird with the apricot blossoms. I guess Pete knew :-)

How am I supposed to know what time it is with this pile of food here??

Thumbnail by Shan71

That is beautiful & your caption is so funny Shan!

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Thank you...I just love the BB's and truly feel blessed to see them.

Angele..Pete is adorable...DH's pet bird is a Mockinbird that comes many times a day for his mealies. He goes thru all sorts of contortions when he runs out!! So funny to watch!

Shan...very cut pic...I love the TT's!

Well, we were supposed to get about a foot of snow but we were in a narrow band that got nothing!! Yippee and the sun is supposed to come out today! Oh yes, it's all good...have a good day everyone!

Oh angele… apricot blossoms. THANK YOU…THANK YOU! I need spring. very badly.

Mount Pleasant Mills, PA(Zone 5a)

Angele, do you have a name for your Road Runner? Perhaps we should have a contest to name him!

Those Blue Bird photos make me envious.

Apricot Blossoms!!!!!! Envious again. It was nice here yesterday, but today and the remainder of the week are going to make up for it.

Pelle, that woodpecker is marvelous. I love the detail on that crop.

Chores demand my attention for a while today, drat!!

GG

No, no name for the Roadrunner, yet. I named Pete and a friend suggested Sam for my Thrasher, they are the only ones with names so far. You know I am not certain that I am making friends with just one roadrunner! A couple of days ago as I was feeding one as another, identical looking to me, ran by. The one I was feeding left food on the ground & went roadrunning after the other. They could have been twins! We may have to come up with 2 names!

I am so pleased to see the apricot blossoms too. Next to bloom in my yard will be an early blooming cactus called Claret Cup. It is setting buds already but they take a seeming forever to open.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Well, this winter has been STINKY, so I'm ready to see it go. I can't believe it is the beginning of March and I have a yard full of snow and ICE. The only silver lining for me is that I put some flowering bulbs in late this year, so perhaps they are having a longer chance now to become established.

Rex and Rudy Roadrunner.

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

Angele, love to see the bond you have with your birds. Giving them names , makes them even more precious. And so nice to see the blossoms. Beautiful pic.

Mrs_Ed; awful weather here too. and bad storm coming in tomorrow. Doesn't make for nice pics at all. I'm so sick of it too. I was out a while ago, and it's ice pellets coming down.

Rose, that looks like a wing wave to me too. you'll probably be a Grandmama, very soon.:)
Bright eyes on that Red Bellied Woodpecker. Welcome back Pelle and to you too Shan

Hooray...the sun came out but I froze my unmentionables off taking a few pics. Here is one of a Male Cardinal at the feeder...notice my trademark twigs above his head!!

Was able to get 1 decent enough pic, of this Female pine Grosbeak.

Trademark twigs, lol, a good way around that problem! Nice shot though dellrose.

What a considerate bird you have angele, he looks so nice in the apple blossoms.

Sorry pelle, I can't open yours at over 15kb, but it looks great from what I can see. I tried one last night at less than 8kb and after about 2 minutes got a little box in the corner with a red cross. Not going there again, lol.

adelbert, you look to have snow again!

And a squirrel found my peanuts, lol, and chewed the branches trying to get the net off! Good job it can be cut down. The net was a few feet away on the ground with the plastic holder chewed through, I broke the small branch bending it to put the net back. I need a metal feeder but the squirrel likes peanuts too, it came back.

Rex and Rudy Roadrunner! Good names!

Here is the little bird that gave us the moonshot the other day. This time I waited until it got itself turned around and came out from behind the suet feeder. I love it when it eats suet and all you can see are its bottom and its feet!

Resin, you may have guessed correctly at Dark Eyed Junco, but I am not sure. Perhaps you can tell more from this shot.

It is pouring down rain here today. STINKY winter is right!!

Two Mourning Doves. These were a fair distance away, and perched way up in the top of a tree.

Burn your Grosbeak is so sweet looking!

Wallaby..thanks! One of these days I will get some good edit software and the twigs will be a thing of the past! Cute shot of the squirrel...finally saw one in our hanging basket feeder. I hope it isn't a prelude for bigger and better things to come i.e. Starlings, Cowbirds, House Sparrows and Grackles!

Here's a White Breasted Nuthatch..taken from the bathroom window. Note: no twigs in the way!

GG, you are getting the weather we had yesterday and yes it stinks!! That 3rd pic sure looks like a Song Sparrow to me!
