Hi, I just bought some Dahlia corums that were packaged in black plastic bags. When I opened the bags the Dahlias had already started growing. Several of them had 3 to 4 inch pale shoots coming from them. Can I just plant them as they are or should I cut off the growing shoots and let them start growing anew once they are in the ground?
dahlias
You could plant them in the garden, being careful not to break off the shoots. Or snip off those shoots barely above where they come out of the tuber. If you plant, stake them at the same time. If it is too cold to plant now, you could store them in the frige until it is time to plant. Soil needs to be above 60 degrees and not too wet. Too cool and wet = R-O-T
