I have noticed that when I leave my yellow onions out to long in the house some of them start to grow green stalks. This time I took one of the onion and set it into a pot indoors with the onion under the soil and the stalks sticking up, after about a week or so I am noticing that the stalks are starting to grow taller. My questions are will the onion eventually die? Will it continue to grow into a plant and if so will it have the odor of onions ? I would really appreciate any feedback.
Thank you
Growing stalks from onions????
A sprouted onion planted will grow and give you a green onion (scallion). Seldom will they bulb up into a mature onion. Usually they bolt to seedheads pretty fast. Exceptions of course are the potato onions.
onions will also set seeds if allowed to grow from bulbs....
