...and while we tap our feet waiting for spring...

Kalama, WA(Zone 8b)

Thanks Neal, I remember reading that "Now".
Oh how I miss my memory. :-(

LOL Joy - wouldn't it be nice if we just add memory like we can
for our PC's?

I haven't gotten any of the many many bulbs and perennials I
ordered this winter. Just wait 'til all those trucks start unloading
here. :-)

Grandview, TX(Zone 8b)

Tammy, please enlighten us, what bulbs and perennials did you order and from who??? I received 2 boxes from UPS yesterday: a monopod for steadier pictures and a box of fertilizer from gardens alive (boy does it stink)!

Carolyn (who loves it when UPS pulls up)

somewhere, PA

Oh gosh... I hardly remember.

I got begonias & dahlias from Van Bourgien
I got some rock garden plants from *I'm blanking on name*
I remember ordering hostas from someone (I do remember
it was a good price on Blue Mouse Ear which I've been wanting
for a while now)
I'm in two lily coops and one perennial coop.

See... I went into some zombie-like state and ordered
gobs and gobs w/o hardly registering it in my brain. LOL

Grandview, TX(Zone 8b)

Last July I ordered a refrigerator full of orienpet lilies from Van Engelen, Garden Pleasure and Satisfaction, and for the life of me I have no clue where I'm going to put them. I just loved the orienpet I ordered the year before and thought I needed more, so I ordered 35. They are so easy to put into your basket while sitting in your favorite chair, now to find just the perfect spot....

Tammy, what glorious plans do you have for these new goodies? Who's going to live with who? I'm all a twitter with excitement looking at the 4,076 lilies sitting in the entry! A friend stopped by yesterday and was aghast when he saw the crates. Of course, I let him think they were all mine for a few minutes, LOL.

Carolyn ("who loves it when UPS pulls up"- love that, LOL), I've fallen for the Orienpets too, still haven't met one I don't like! That beauty reminds me of one I have called Zagorra. I want 'Satisfaction' really bad! After this year of lily gluttony, I best take a break from getting any more for a while, LOL.

Grandview, TX(Zone 8b)

gemini_sage, I was amazed how long the Orienpet retained her beauty when I cut her and brought her inside, and ahhhh the scent was so wonderful! Glad to here about the 4,076 lilies, I feel better now about my 35!!

Oh, those are for the co op I'm hosting! LOL Well...most of them. I've still been quite the lily pig though, this will go down in my personal history as the year of the lily, hovering somewhere around 400 of them. This is the first time I've counted....I'm flabbergasted!

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

Lol, Neal, love that you let your friend think they were all for you...Hope you asked him to help you plant them before you told him!!!

How's this for backwards-I know where most of the lilies I ordered from your co-op are going to go, but not the ones that I just got last week and are in my garage.

LOL!

susybell ,your theme is a familiar one . Lol!

Neal I was wondering, why do people put themselves through the hassle of running a coop?

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

I think because he's a super organized guy and if it weren't for sweeties like that, look what all of us would be missing :)

Some people just do co-ops flawlessly. And me? I am thankful that there are those generous folks out there who are able to pull it all of.

Citra, FL(Zone 9a)

For the same reason people join co-ops...leastways, that's one reason I can think of. Plus involvement with many good people. For Neal, I bet it weighs heavily on being able to have all those bulbs around him - it's a pretty amazing feeling. One can almost feel the life waiting to explode exuding from them, eh Neal?

Citra, FL(Zone 9a)

and the smell....

Fox River Valley Are, WI(Zone 5a)

Ahhhhh Yes, the smell.

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

hey, neal, did the post office rip the bulbs out of their packaging? if they didn't then i know you're doing o.k. lol. whatcha' doin'? would you change my order? could i cancel that red one? hahahahahahaha

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

LOL mamajack, you're rotten! These were shipped FedEx ground, and there was one bag slightly torn with a bulb spilling out, so no problem with ID.

Andy, I'm mostly driven by cheapness and gluttony, LOL. Like Laura said,I do love handling the bulbs too (and yes, love that earthy smell). I'm still on hiatus from conventional employment, and this is the kind of thing I had every intention of doing with my time. If I was doing the 9 to 5, I wouldn't have considered doing it, or at least not nearly as big.

Citra, FL(Zone 9a)

cheapness and gluttony...lol
You're so honest!

What was the source of the coop bulbs?

I took photo's this morning as I'm trying to patiently wait for my
goodies to arrive. This is a long shot of the garden I'm gonna
fill with lilies. Its at the top of the stone wall. See all the daffodils
in the grass? Something around 600 in there. The ones in
the foreground near the blue & white fence were planted a few
years ago and are the first of my daffodils to bloom.

This is a closer shot. (Who but a nutty gardner would even
consider sharing photos of blank spaces to share publicly?)

Last one I promise. This is the garden-to-be-planted with Neal's
lilies from the road.

Tammy: Not only do gardners love to look at blank spaces, I moved recently and had to leave my beautiful lillium ,and moved to deer territory and have no business breaking my heart in a "Lily" thread, I just couldn't help myself.
Did business for years with B&D lilies in Port Townsend Wa.

oooooo... glorious! I just can't wait to enjoy lilies live!
What is the one on the lower right corner? (I'm an
amateur here on lilies.)

That one on the bottom right looked like White Henryi to me?

Saint Bonifacius, MN(Zone 4a)

White Henryi, I would agree.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

You are right White Henri. B&D LILIES. It gets to be six feet tall. They are very fragrant (sp).
I brought one to the new house in July. Hope the deer don't get it. If I have luck with Liquid Fence I'll consider more lilies.

Sorry about the resolution on that pic.

Andy, Wooden Shoe Bulb Farm is the retail branch of the vendor, and Ednie Flower Bulbs is the wholesale division. They both sell in 25 bulb minimums, the main difference for ordering was $50 minimum order for the retail and $200 for the wholesale division.

Tammy, that is going to look wonderful!

Lovely lilies ge! Hope you find the perfect deer repellent and can enjoy them again.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

thanks gemini-s This new house was a rental for four years, so the gardens and the ornamentals were let go.
My daughter and I are trying to revive them. Moved in July, am waiting to see what April and May pop out. This is the newest garden where we tore out old junipers, hoping for lilies there.

Thats a good place to start. Always seemed to me the deer would keep away from my foundation plantings, but is does depend on how hungry they are.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

You are right about deer,It's my hope that by the time lilies bloom near the house the deer will have better places to find food.

Maybe you could bait them. I was thinking of doing that with rabbits, but the cost of produce is so high.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I heard of splatt balls but I doubt I would be able to aim straight.

Saint Bonifacius, MN(Zone 4a)

Splatt balls?

Fox River Valley Are, WI(Zone 5a)

Paint balls?
