You came by there a week too late, Ken! Howie and I were at Dea's Friday night through last Monday morning! :)

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

LOL, it took me a moment to realize that "&%$" was Ken's way of keeping my Dmail excerpt above anonymous... at first I thought he was really put out with me!

I'm sorry we didn't manage to hook up on Sunday... we just had a disorganized morning (while you were busy), and then we had to head on up to Lancaster so we could browse along the way and have a leisurely stop at That Fish Place. (I got a pair of little clownfish and a Coral Beauty pygmy angel... gorgeous, but I wish he'd settle down and eat something! The clownfish were eating like little striped piglets by this morning. I have missed having fish in that tank! It's been nothing but a couple of hermit crabs & snails for the past year... This is better!)

I hope you had fun driving around and got to explore a bit before heading home. There's a good sense of "community" in Frederick, I think... and it sounds like you don't really have that in your current location. Of course, all your traveling on the job makes it hard to feel like you're putting down roots anywhere, I'm sure.

I'm glad we at least got to chat on the phone and visit a bit that way!

:-)

Hey Jill,

Greeting fro Frankfurt, Germany. Ah , where did the days go again. I have been non-stoip since we spoke. I spent that Sundauy AM with an old friend in Frederick, and then looked around the area, including the new developments that you had mentioned, and then drove that small new Honda back roads home. It was a real nice few days, being able to see my Aunt May (91) and drive thru the Fredrick Area and see that Old Friend Jim Burgoon. ANd go to church too. Well in the last 2 weeks I have crossed the Atlantic Ocean 6 times, counting Sundays flight from FRA-ORD, then land at ORD at 1530 local and ailine back to Newrak, hopefully home in NJ at 9pm. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I have to plant some of my Sam's Club bulbs this week. It will good to be home Jill. Maybe I'll come down and see Fredrick again. Maybe seee Jim and go to church again and some more sunday school too.

Hopefully, I will meet you soon and maybe some others in the Fredrick area, if they make themselves available too.

Hi Sydney480,

Thanks for your emails. I had a golden retriever, butterscotch, for 10 years. I haven't had a dedicated friend since then., Now I cannot because i travel too much, not fair to them.

Greetings from Frankfurt, Germany., On my home on Sunday (April 20th) been on the road since April 3. Burned out. I need some time off! Sorry I have not replied sooner. I had a good visit with my Aunt May (91) and headed back to NJ in the car, spent a night in Frederick, MD where I saw a very old friend, Jim, but didn't hear from another OLD Friend who lives in Frererick, but heard from Critterologist from Frederick, and we talked for a while. Looked at places, new developments that she suggested, in Frererick, but way overpriced to be able to look in your neighbors window. Headed beack to NJ, 1 day OFF then on the road again, until tomorroww, April 20th, when I fly a plane from Frankfurt (FRA) to ORD, then ailine backl to my car parked at Newark Airport, NJ. Then home for a bit.

I travel alot and lately I have not been able to find "celery" for sale, as it seems the veggy has disappeared. Is this a seasonal product?

The local food store did not carry it, as well as, Costco, Sam's and BJs.

Does anyone know about this "celery" shortage?

Several years back, while stopping for Fuel at Buku (Caspian Sea) Azerbaijan, our ground handler asked if I would bring him "Celery" as there was non available in that part of the world, which is understandable. These flights always originate from Sahnghai or Hong Kong through Baku (westbound) to Germany, but I haven't been back to deliver the celery to him.

If this is a celery shortgage, I wonder why, and what other items will disappear in the future? Better start stocking a bunch of MRE's in the basement as well as H2O and other items to protect myself.

Ken! You've been AWOL far too long... I don't know about celery (haven't looked lately), but I hope you'll jump into the chat in the Mid-Atlantic forums. :-)

Stewartsville, NJ(Zone 6a)

mid atlantic forums? where do i find that. Been away too long and forgot how to move around or locate things

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

The whole list of "Discussion Forums" is under the "Communities" tab at the top of the page. :-)

Hey, Ken! It's great to see you pop back in here. I don't know about a celery shortage, can't find any news of one with a quick Google browse, but I've not shopped for it lately, either. I wonder what's up with that.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I bought celery at the grocery store tonight... the shelves were well stocked with bunches of celery and bagged "celery hearts." :-)

Rutland , MA(Zone 5b)

i just bought a huge bunch at sams club.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

*Sigh* Okay, now y'all are totally responsible for me craving ants on a log!

If you've never heard of that, it's just celery sticks with peanut butter in the grooves and raisins dotted across the peanut butter. Yummy stuff, that.

Hey, Frank. :) You're up early and I'm up late. LOL

Missouri City, TX

Wondered if you had gone on to other interests - wecome back to your DG family.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

OMG! I am absolutely rolling!

This thread popped up in my watched threads since I've posted here. I was reading about the celery shortage, then GW's ants on a log. Then I clicked on my Yahoo mail. I catch an ad moving at the top of the page so I look up. It's a Sun Maid raisin ad. First a piece of celery, then peanut butter, then raisins on top. I almost spit on my keyboard.

I think it's gonna be one of those weird days. LOL

WB Ken!

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

You're kidding!! That is hilarious, Chele. How funny!

Stewartsville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you. Thank you for your kind responses. It must have been a "box" store thing as the 3 or 4 times I looked for celery it was sold out, not there, and even an employee said "it's a seasonal thing.", which didn't make any sense. In any event, after I wrote on DG, I did find it at Sams CLub in Nazereth, PA. I didn't need it for Thankgsgiving cooking, as I just use it to munch on and salads. I didn't have TG dinner, as I headed over to the Netherlands to see an old friend and her family, and they don't celebrate TG. It was nice to see the responses from all of you and I say "Thank You". I will be on here more, as I hadn't logged in since April. Missed the summer? I was leaving for the states this morning (Monday) but will catch a flight early Tuesday to Newark and back into tthe routine as I have to go to work on Friday, Dec 5th.

Thanks again to all of you for your responses.

Hey, Ken! :) I laughed at the employee's "it's a seasonal thing" comment. If you don't know, blurt something out...Anything. LOL Thanks to this thread, I'm still craving ants on a log.

Stewartsville, NJ(Zone 6a)

look what I started. I did find a bunch or two of celery last Wednesday.

I hope all of you had a great Thanksgiving Holiday. I didn't have any plans, so decided I would go visit some friends in Netherlands and missed the day, though we ate some great food.

Thanks for the responses, which I am going to re-read. I get back to NJ on Tuesday but leave to work on Dec 5th-15th. I will carry a camera and send some interesting photos from travels.

I guess we "Southerners" are just celery freaks, because our stores are always PACKED with celery, including convenience stores! Now I would say a mango or maybe a rutabega (sp?) would be "seasonal." :-)

Stewartsville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Hi Connie

I love celery, I haven't had any since I left my home a week ago. I really try to eat alot to avoid picking at other things when I am home. On the road its bacon and eggs, seafood, etc

Ken

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Right now the only thing in season here is snowcones and popsickles. Never heard of or tried ants on a log. Sounds yummy. My ants are gonna be chocolate chips mmmmmm chocolate mmmmm.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

But but but, I'm pregnant and I love seafood. LOL I thought it was worth a try. I do have a nice fresh bunch of celery. :)

Hmmm, snowcones and chocolate chips sound good too.

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Wow...I just realized you were gone for about 6 months, Ken! This thread just popped up again on my "threadwatcher!" Were you okay? And...where was the photo of you on the beach taken?? Beautiful!!

Stewartsville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Wow, I lost another 6 months from Dave's Garden board. And reading all of your responses and comments. That beach photo was taken on Long Beach Island in New Jersey Connie_W from Austin Texas. I happen to be there now, June 8, 2009. Also have to renew my membership. Missed the weekend, got here l;ate Sunday, now a bank of sea fog. Oh well, can hear the waves breaking in the distance.

Hey, GardenWife, I did find the celery, but actually thought there was a shortage, at one time in December 2008.

Hi Badseed, missed you emeials. I have to rememebr to login here more often.

Photo is from a UN Relief flight into Islamabad, Pakistan. Standing with Minister of Interior-Defense. May 12, 2009.

New Baby? Badseed, CONGRATULATIONS!!! BOY OR GIRL?? What is his/her name?

I Have been gone a while. Many places. Hey, I only sent photos that didn't show the excess baggage I have put on in my travels. I dare not send the others from Islamabad, as a friend (?? I wonder) wrote; "hey you look like an old fat man, who taught you how do your tie, it's way too short". Oh well, working on the weight, but difficult. Well, here's the handshake pic with the Minister from Islamabad.

How about a photo? I bet you already posted one.
