I had it two years ago. I don't set anything off but I do have a card just in case. My doctor wanted me to come in for a two year checkup but if nothing is going wrong I don't see the point so I did not go. I don't have to take any meds.
Can y'all help me welcome a new Subscriber?
whatever Howie - you set a lot of things off....ROFL !!!! Ok, since this has become a chatty group, don't forget to read the article tonight at midnight - or tomorrow, for You Supply The Caption....
"No, not another stir fry" Anyhoooo, the photo is by Gardenwife aka Kimberley and it is an incredibly gruesome Capsicum Annuum :)
Another EOM (End of Month) - if I get one more call from one more Broker.......but we got everyone snug and safe in their homes so no worries :)
Yes Dea but I have a card for when I do set things off. I'm going to start using it at work and in social situations when I do something wrong. I'm just going to pull out my card and say sorry but I have this hardware in my back that makes me do things like that.
And Ken as far as the good friends to stay with while recovering you can see above how I get treated. LOL Sounds like there is plenty of love in that statement. LOL
Oh! That photo! LOL I must go look. ;)
Ken, yes I am Kimberley. As far as coffee pods go, check out these links:

HI There Kimberley,
Thank you for the addresses for the coffee. I was just about to order some "timothy's.com" coffee but I'll look at yours. I got a surprise in this laptop on Friday and had a trojan virus plant itself. I had this before, and had to format the whole thing and rebuild the software and data. Fortunately, I have good backups and this time Norton/symantec was able to get into the laptop remotely and fix it, only took about 4-5 hours to get it straightened out.
Where do I find that story/posting that Dea had mentioned above. I had seen the "You supply..." article before, but what is a quick way to find it. Well, lots of grass outside, as the snow is gone, but still cold here.
Howie, they gave you a card? I guess my stents never tripp anything off, but your "hardware" must get something "set off" with ROFL or others. Whoever that is..Today is the third day I will be working out, which I have not in months. I have to get in shape for my annual stress test, and lose a few kilos too.
Thanks for your emails Howie and Garden wife, and you too Dea. Where do I find the "Supply" things?
Here's the link. http://davesgarden.com/guides/articles/view/723/
There are quite a few very clever captions....the one about the Metropolitan Opera Singer cracked everyone up :)
Thought you'd get a chuckle out of this, when you mentioned Howie setting off metal detectors... My dad used to travel with a guy who had a big metal plate in his forehead, and of course that would set off the security alarms. Remember those Scottie Dog magnets? He kept a set in his pocket. He'd stick one up on his head, explain about the metal plate, and the guards would laugh and let him through... really, what better way to demonstrate that there's a steel plate in your head? LOL
that's a good one. don't have enough metal in my stents to do that.
That's hilarious, Jill!
Thanks you creative writers! I just received my first Newsletter! I spotted an article by "Dutchlady-Dutchlady 1". All about tulips, which used to surround the front of my old home, until the deer ate them, every year.
Anyway, I am new on here, and do not know how to add anything to Dutchlady1 posting or thread, if there is one from the article.
But for almost seven (7) years I have been staying in the NL (Doetinchem-near German border), and have visited a Dutch national Treasure, No - not the red light district or the Koffee Shops! Yet, several years ago, when I took my daughter, now 21, there to visit all she wanted to do was to go into a Dutch Koffee SHop, to SEE to believe what her freinds in the USA talked about, smoking pot in a Koffee shop.
The Dutch Treasure I am referring to is Keukenhof, a TRUE national treasure and one of a kind. I was always proud of my walk through gardens, but this place is absolutely magnificant, beyond belief. It is open every spring, Easter on for about 5-6 weeks. An amazing place, right Dutchlady1????? Take a look, and you all probably know about this place already.
http://www.keukenhof.nl/nm/english.html
I thought the "show" started earlier than that... DH is traveling to Amsterdam for a conference next week, and I was trying to tell him to stay on for a couple of days to see the flowers (he says he has to get back & keep working)... is it still too early, then? Easter is about as early this year as it ever is...
Welcome, Ken! I've been a member here for... going on 3 years! How time flies! I was looking up "Japanese Blood Grass" and DG popped up! And I've been here ever since....visit at least once a day! It's my "resting time" when all tired from gardening...needing to grab a bite to eat or just rest my hands from digging holes.
I also am "newly new" to gardening. Had a grandmother who got me started on it...then my dad (a bit...he was a banker!) and not much time for it when the kids were little. Mainly told guys "where to dig" and "put that here" and that wasn't much fun! Now kids are all grown, educated, working, and on their own (Thank God!) and I'm back at it with a passion.
Again...welcome....and feel free to ask any of us whenever you have questions about how to "take off," (sorry...couldn't resist!) with your new gardening ideas.
Critterologist,
It looks like the show at keukenhof begins on March 20th to May 18th. I hope to see it this year, I missed it last year. The surrounding tulip fields should be in bloom though. Drive A-4 South from Schiphol AIrport towards Leiden or take the trein to Leiden. And a bus from there.
Pardon, but I am not "up" on these abbreviations/ What does DH mean? I assume "Dear Husband?"
Yes...
DDIL (daughter in law)
DS (sister)
etc. .... now you can figure them out! I also learned this when I joined....
Ah, well then it's just as well I wasn't able to get a companion ticket for this trip... we'd have been just a little early for the main event! When we figured out that my ticket was going to cost about as many frequent flier miles as two tickets booked more in advance, we decided we'd go another time when Jim's (my DH, dear husband) work schedule wasn't so tight. Of course, going to Amsterdam means missing some of the spring show in our own yard... LOL!
The "rivers" of muscari and other "sweeps" of color have inspired some of my own garden design when it comes to spring bulbs... no rows of little marching soldiers in my yard!
a very, very late welcome from upstate new york.
Hi Critterologist- Jill right?
Abbreviations SSIL DH D? to many for me but thanks for your explanation. Dear Husband, got it. I envy your gardens, and Ill stay there while your gone and water the flowers.
WHo did you try to use points on? I get free travel, with my ID, but I have about 190,000 with Continental. They have a non-stop from Newark to AMS Flight CO70 I take on revenue and jumpseat. I have used points for tickets on them, they usually run 25,000 each way and some of the time 50,000 for business class each way. www.continental.com. I bet your using UAL points from IAD??? To bad I can't send you my id to use.
Hi Connie_W
Thanks for the explanation on the abbrevaitions on DG, to help my with my PC but no DW to see ... ah...I remember once when I heard these quick abbreviations in a film? Do you remember?????????????????
The former VP will be here on Friday men.
I expect every minute of the VP's PC to be taped and broadcast...within hours of his arrival !
Something funny, Garlick?
Well, perhaps you'd like to share it with the rest of us.
No, sir. The former vice president is a delight, sir.
Excuse me, sir.
Seeing as how the VP is such a VIP.......shouldn't we keep the PC on the QT, 'cause if it leaks to the VC.......he could end up an MIA......and then we'd all be put on KP.
- I would like to leave the room now. Oh, uh, yes, sir.
Oh, what a dip. If you do................And if you do-- - And if you do--
Robin Williams in Good Morning Vietnam (1987)
Thanks for your welcome agian Herbie43. Are you near Glens falls, NY??
Hahaha...Blueskyes....got it with all the acronyms!
Well, when I first joined DG I made a little joke too....about my EX-DH being a "__ husband"...and I did not fill in the blank with "dear," preferring to use a colorful epithet instead...and promptly got my hand slapped by the admins here (and deservedly so, I might --must?--add!). This is a family site, and all bad words will be promptely removed. Being the mom of two grown kids who learned fast enough on their OWN to speak the more colorful language, I certainly don't want to aid and abet that type of behavior here. So....be forewarned. Nothing more colorful that an occasional "drat" or "shoot" will get past the censors. They do a great job keeping us clean. :-)

LOL... thanks for sharing that scene, Ken!
Yes, Jim (DH) does most of his travel on United. No black-out dates as such, but the seats available for fewer points have to be bought in advance, and even when you're buying far enough ahead (we were looking just barely in time), those seats tend to get sold out.
Connie, good point about language that's not tolerated here... I was surprised at first, but in a good way, and I appreciate the fact that things like that help keep this a pretty cordial site all around.
Jill (aka Critter)
Seeing as how the VP is such a VIP...shouldn't we keep the PC on the QT, 'cause if it leaks to the VC...he could end up an MIA...and then we'd all be put on KP.
VP = VP Nixon (At that time)
VIP = VIP
PC = Press Conference
OT = QT
VC = Vietcong
MIA = MIA
KP = Kitchen Patrol cooking Veggys from your garden. No bad words , abbreviations, here. Pass the test, senors?
Ha....I"m a teacher and our school newspaper ran a heading the other day that said: "WTF...Dude!"
It was all about a food club called the Wonderful, Tasty Food club. Yeeeeaaah, sure! :-)
WTF?? World Trade Federation. Lots of abbreviations Connie_w!!
Too Many of them, enough to get confused!
Well, it's been niced being off 9 days, time to jump back into the trenches again. I was supposed to leave today, Friday, but now Saturday, but that changed again, maybe Sunday to Toledo and fly a plane from TOL to HHN (hahn germany), then AMS (Amsterdam), DXB (Dubai), PRG (Pargue), DXB (Dubai) and back to HHN (Hahn, Germany). Well my 3 letter abbreviations are airport codes, that should confuse you..
Welcome to the insanity of crazy gardeners and wonderful friendships. I hope you find as many new friends and inthusiates as I have. I don't know where I would be without them. I left for awhile and it felt as though I had left my family.
Glad to welcome you to Daves.
Jan

HI Sydney 480,
Thanks for your note. Welcome. Yes, I guess I did get many messages on the Welcome Mat! I have been off of the website as I had to travel again and am back home in New Jersey as of last night, tired out and finally slept last night. I am going to follow critterologists hyperlink and see you welcome too!

Just before my last departure from home, I purchased 2 boxes, at Sam's CLub, of Daylily plants; holiday delight and stella d'oro, which I had in my old gardens. When do I plant these? I have to get some color in the front of this townhouse. After I return from my weekend in Miami, sweating in a simulator in some misguided training, I amm off, hopefully until April 6/7. I want some advice in what I should plant and when. Where's the beast plcae to look on here?
Thanks all,
Ken
blueskyes, now in NJ
Hello Ken!
Daylilies can be planted any time the ground is workable. That said, really cold temps could cause them to heave (pop out of the ground). I personally wouldn't plant this time of year unless I had to-like a poorly planned shipment. ;) You can go ahead an plant them in a bed that is ready or pot them and put them outside or the garage. Make sure you do not bury the crown too deep. Not trying to be a wet blanket, what blooms, may not be what is listed on the package. :( Box stores are bad about that but you might get lucky!
I'm jealous of you having been to Miami (despite your adventure). I had a taste of the 80s in my greenhouse on Sunday. Now it's ugly outside and pouring rain. boo hoo
Signed,
daylily addict,
Michele
Greenhouse? Always wanted one of those! Miami is okay, buts it all training beginning on Thursday at 8am. N ot very organized and not very thorough. Fill the squares mentality. But, hopefully pass checkride Sunday morning.
I just went out to Sam's before I got into the books, just trying to avoid studying. Anywa I picked up more boxes of things to plant next week.
Thanks for the info.
Ken
You sir, look like a man on a mission! It is pouring rain here and I'm desperate to get out of this house. Having the greenhouse when you need it is wonderful but it's just more work. LOL I don't heat them over the winter, so basically just use them to start seeds and root cuttings and the rest of the year they just sit there.
Oh, I know. My gardens at my old house got bigger and BIGGER, and too much work to take care of them properly, living by myself. Yeah, I know people who had them and they are a lot of work too. It would be nice to tack one on this townhouse, just off thie small deck that came with this place, but not allowed to do any outside changes.
Ken
Could you get one of those little 3-shelf mini greenhouses for starting seeds, Ken? It wouldn't be a permanent fixture that way. Or, for that matter, how about using PVC bent into hoops and making a temporary tent over containers?
Ken, when you plant your daylilies outside, make sure you find a location that 6 to 8 hours of sunlight per day for best blooming. They will survive on less, but the bloom will be less too.
Happy Easter to ALL> I guess I lost a week of my life and more. I am now heading back to NJ and hopefully working my unknown gardens in front of the townhouse....
HI Sydney
Thanks for your help and email. I have been running since we last chatted. I apologize if I didn't respond. I was on the site until a week ago Wednesday, when I had to re-pack and head to Florida (Miami). I had just gotten home to NJ on Monday the 17th (late) and had only Tuesday the 18th off. My trip had begun on March 8th. Kind of back wards as this is how I remember.
I had my annual flight training and PC (Progress check) in Miami at the training center from Thursday March 20th until Easter March 23rd, and returned back to NJ on Monday. I had to take my annual checkride on Easter Sunday.
Not much work at home yet. Thanks for your help. I have an Aunt May (91) who lives in Sanford, NC (SW of Raleigh). Her 61 YO son was supposed to show up Easter weekend, but called at the last minute and said his sinus infection kept him from coming, as he and his wife never showed up here for his mothers 90th birthday! I am now in Sanford, arriving here on Wednesday late in the evening. I had Tuesday off, that was it! My AUnt ended up in the hospital from anxiety due to her screwed up weekend, as she has seen her son in 7 years. The Son and DIL are just waiting to collect the house and possesions, obviously.
ANyway, I spent 3 days, including late morning and early afternoon with my AUnt. I am taking her out to lunch and then drive back to NJ, and OFF until April 4th. Then back on the road for 17 days. I fly for a large cargo airline and based in Stansted London. Most of my flights are from Amsterdam/Frankfurt or wherever they need a Captain. I fly a B747-400 for ATlas Air.
Well, have to pack up at thie Holiday Inn Express in Sanford and go see Aunt May and take her to lunch and head north. I plan on driving through Frederick MD to see what it looks like.
Ken

Heya! I just saw your post, don't know if your already on your way to lunch or not... but I'm guessing I've missed you.
Next time you're heading through this way, give me a holler and I'll zap you directions to my place! We're just a few minutes from just about any highway that passes through (there's an interesting tangle of interchanges around here).
My cell phone is 301-***-****. Give me a buzz & drop in for a cuppa!

HI
Thanks for your email *&%$! As you know I am at the Marriott Fairfield Inn, which is nice. Best is that the Romano's Macaroni Grill is nearby and a Honda delaer, and a Sam's Club, and a Costco. Based on these places, this place Frederick, MD qualifies as a place to move to!
I am at 908.391.1461. I am in Room 305, Fairfield Inn is 301.631.2000. Hope to see you and Jim on Sunday.
