Hooray! Our local forestry commission had an arbor day sale today! I planted two red bud trees, two calycanthus (sweetshrub), a dahoon holly, and a euonymus americanus (strawberry bush). All natives and got them in the ground already... and now we are having a slow, cold, rain. Perfect tree-planting weather.... Spring has got to be around the corner.
Arbor Day
How wonderful!!! Lucky you. Did they offer them at great prices as well? A bonus with the rain also!
I think spring is going to be early this year (yea!). Day lilies, yarrow, shasta daisy and many other flowers are springing up and several types of trees are budding (tulip tree is in bloom). I'm loving it! Your new trees will probably be popping with green before you know it.
I got them for $1 a plant. They are small, but stout and look quite healthy. The trees were plugs and the rest were bare root.
I'm all for an early spring, as long as we don't get one last killing freeze like last year, that killed off most everything!
LOL, you're right Julie. I had fruit trees in bloom so hubby and I were out the night before running around like mad dogs trying to cover all of them with contractor size trash bags. After we finished building our house 3 years ago, I started landscaping the 5 acres around it that didn't have any trees. I have quite a few of my trees that came from Arbor Day and they were real small. You should see them now! They grew faster than the bigger ones we bought from HD and Lowes! Good luck with yours.
hello, I wish y'all could send your early spring weather to me....I'm in a real need for it!
I bought some of their trees and have decided to start them in pots first since they're so small. It's easier to move a few pots around instead of worrying about them getting mowed over inn the spring!
I got mine in the mail the other day...and then of course we got 23 degree cold snap...LOL
