Jaye, Palmbob should be able to ID your plant. That is his forte and I doubt there are any he doesn't know.

Feels cold here tonight although it is only in the 40's. After a week in Maui, this is freezing.

Beautiful picture Christi, I am so jealous.

Hey Don, I'll cook that sucker for ya. No problem, do you want it roasted, grilled, smoked or bar-b-qued.

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Notice she said she'd cook it, but didn't say nuttin bout eatin it! LOL

Pittsburg, MO(Zone 6b)

I'll eat it too. I'll kill it, cook it, I just won't clean it. Hey he's got to do some work.

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

Taste like chicken ;P

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

That is Heavenly Christi! A perfect serenity poster.
Thanks Christi, Palmbob, eh?
Yes Don and Robyn, it is an Agave. It might be the Blue Agave, cause the leaves sometimes bear a blue tint. Can't dig out the pups yet, rained too much, but he will heed your warning Robin.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Don't want anyone to be jealous. Want you to make plans to go yourselves. Let some of those trips to Wallyworld or the mall just to kill time go by the wayside, put the money in a box for Maui. Leave off those soft drinks and Starbucks, it all adds up you know. A week there is worth a month of most other places. Nothing to compare it to.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Good advice there Christi. Also, do your travelling before you're wheelchair bound!!
I'd love to return to Hawai'i, this time for the flora n fauna. Of course it will also be better with Kel.

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Robyn,fried,I love fried squirrel!!!

Tammy about the Hardy tropical forum,I talk about hardy tropicals on this forum and tropical forum, the reason is It's tropical plant,no matter where I try to grow it,here is where a a person can first learn about the plant which would also let them know where it can be grown and where it can't be grown.
I have very little time on Daves, for my work schedule and chores at home take up a lot of my free time, and I don't have a lot of time to surf the forums, like I'd like too!
I pic this forum, for I love all the kind people who visit here, and tropical gardening is what I do!
I'm not saying a cold hardy tropical forum, isn't a bad idea,in fact for people who are just interested in that only ,would save them a lot of time searching for the cold hardy tropical they might be interested in.
People here have become a family, sure we talk food a lot,but gardening is limited in the
winter time, and what we like best next to gardening is cooking and eating, and besides this is the only forum you can garden and eat at the same time!!!LOL

Pittsburg, MO(Zone 6b)

I'll fix ya fried squirrel, top it off with bread dressing or homemade noodles and fresh green beans with onion and bacon pieces.

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Let me grab my coat and hat,be there just in time for breakfast!!!LOL

Pittsburg, MO(Zone 6b)

Sorry, breakfast will be ham, with red eye gravy and poached eggs.. You'll have to wait for dinner.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Please tell me what squirrel tastes like. I ate turtles, alligator tails, rabbits, deer meat, but never squirrels.

Pittsburg, MO(Zone 6b)

I think it tastes like rabbit, maybe a little gamier though.

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

No I think rabbit is gamier, squirrel to me fried is sweet tasting, haven't had any in years, always took my rifle when we went mushroom hunting in early spring, around a old apple orchard.I think the squirrels were fatten up on those apples and it might have fermented in there body!!!LOL

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Well, the only 'wild' meat I eat is Turkey Breast, and I love it fried! YUMMMMMMMMMY
I never cared much for squirrel, and we raised rabbits, which made it hard for me to eat them. I used to eat deer meat till we raised a baby buck, then I just couldn't bring myself to do it.
Robin, what is Red Eye gravy?

Pittsburg, MO(Zone 6b)

Gravey made from the ham juices.

I'm one of those that was raise down home on the farm, we ate what we hunted or raised. After I grew up we didn't have it as much, it was store bought meat,no where near as good.

After I started working at Lodge of the Four Seasons here at the lake, I was able to taste new foods, their world renown chef liked to experiment in the kitchen and I was lucky enough to be a guinea pig so to speak.

The only thing I refused to eat was tripe. Was not going to eat anything that was stuffed inside a cows intestine.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Don there are mushrooms around here, but I wouldn't risk trying them. Have to look up on what's poisonous.
I hear the rain falling now.....
It's been a brain draining night. So nite, nite Sweet Ones. Be warm.
Thanks Don, for making us feel at home!

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Oh Ok, thanks for clarifying that for me! :o)
I was raised that way as well, but maybe not quite as much. I lived off of PB&J! LOL

Pittsburg, MO(Zone 6b)

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

LOL!
I think I'm blushing!!!LOL
Off to work!

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Watch out Don, Patti will see you blushing and take advantage! :o) TEE HEE

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Don, you are very encouraging for all of us. I don't yet have a greenhouse but am seriously contemplating for next year. Many of the beauties in Maui just won't survive our winters. It is really only about 3 months that it is necessary to cover most things here in my world. Only takes 1 hard freeze to kill everything.

Hey Don,
I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to have your input here:

Yes, it is an agave -- century plant. They don't really bloom only every hundred years, more like every 20 years. They do die after blooming.

I am amazed at all the people I meet who won't eat tripe. Do you ever eat Andouille sausage? Tripe. It is only made from the first 3 of the cows 4 stomache chambers, so is actually a "cleaner" organ than say liver for example (which will NEVER enter my kitchen!), and you guys are talking about squirrels and ground hogs for heaven's sake, yet get all twitterpated about tripe. I just don't get it. Ah well, our differences make us interesting...(but Menudo is one of the world's most wonderful soups....).

Pittsburg, MO(Zone 6b)

Mine stems from watching it get cleaned out, smelling it and then trying to watch it get stuffed again. No I don't eat Andouille either. Excuse me for getting twitterpated.

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Well, I have CRS, so don't even remember what it is, and I have no clue what twitterpated is! LOL

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

Ok I am trying to work here ;*)..... what is twitterpated???/ lolol

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

YOU WORK??? HA HA HA Just kidding! :o)
