I have had a very small flying bug, about the size of a flea, in the house for a few months now. I only see one at a time, and it has never gotten worse, so I wasn't too concerned about it. Today, I noticed one crawling around in my strep, which I desperately want to keep healthy. Should I be worried?
should i be worried?
It could be fungus gnats. I have heard some people talk about using those yellow sticky tapes to kill them and others say to put a bit of sand on the top of the soil and it's supposed to get rid of them, but I don't know what works for sure. Here's a thread I found from a few years back where folks were talking about these critters and what to do to get rid of them: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/536776/
Thank you! I will try the mosquito treatment. Do you think there is any danger to the plants if I use it?
I'm not real sure. Why not post over on the African Violet forum? Since Strep's are members of the Gesneriad family that would be a great place to post. A lot of folks on the AV forum grow Strep's and some may have had the same problem and can better advise you. There are some real knowledgeable folks on that forum which is the one I frequent the most.
