I grow potatoes in zone 7/8 and rotate the plot through a 3-year cycle. Last year I ordered potato tubers from Pinetree seeds for the first time. They arrived late for my area, but I planted them immediately. The first potatoes I harvested in early summer were fine; a couple of weeks later, almost all the potatoes were rotted and had a horrible smell--reminding me of tales of the Irish potato famine (although the leaves of the plants were not affected). Question: how may this affect future potato crops, even in other beds? When is it safe to replant in that bed? Anyone know what my potatoes had?
potato rot
Sounds like Tuber soft rot:
