Sorry, but I got caught up in the name change mania sweeping DG! Anyway, the NE forum has regulars from all over the country so maybe it should be named The American Forum? As for the Indigenous Plants and Round Robin Trading Forums, perhaps a swap, in keeping with the theme of the latter? Kill two birds with one stone? But that might upset the Bird Watching Forum so strike that! Or rename that forum too? Anyway, Happy Valentines Day to all DGers! (Assuming we're not renaming the site as well!)
Can we rename the NE Gardening Forum?
Is it April 1st already? ;-)
:)
I lurk on a lot of forums, wishing I could grow some of the plants you folks in the North are able to grow. I hear others saying they wish they could grow some of the Tropicals we grow in the landscape here in Florida .... I guess there's a bit of zone envy in all of us!
For Victor, every day is April 1st.
: )

Hee hee - couldn't resist. Ladylin, isn't that always the case? We always want what we don't ot can't have!
"the NE forum has regulars from all over the country so maybe it should be named The American Forum?" But but but... what about renaming that forum the A & ME (American and Middle Eastern) Forum to be consistent with the juxtapositioning of words Native & Wildflower suggested to rename the Indigenous Plants Forum ;0
Well, I wish they would re-name the NE forum to something like the American Forum, too! They have the best discussions and really good gardeners there but I feel like I'm an interloper (not because of anything they have said, maybe 'because' I'm way over here in Ohio?) LOL
Since they divided everyone up into regional forums I miss so many of the most interesting posters who are secluded in their own regional threads...
Oh, well. I think I'm whining again...!
But, but, but...(best whiney voice) they can't rename it the "American" forum, or I couldn't hang out there anymore.
OK 'North American' forum. How's that?! LOL
And you know the Canadian forum is one of my favorites for lurking too. Great gardeners there and it pains me too that they are sequestered into their own Forum! More whining, I know! (-: Or is it 'venting'?
Let's go with "venting".
Tabasco, there are Californians, Kentuckians, and um - Wisconsinians who post regularly on the NE forum. There's no such thing as an interloper!

Oh, I know they have a variety of adopted folk. Thanks for pointing that out. I'm just peeved that it can't be renamed 'North American' so I don't feel like a guest/interloper!
heehee - i almost forgot - at least one Washingtonian too!
How about adding a North Dakotan who's up here in the frozen tundra all alone?
Maybe we should call it the Lost Gardener's Forum for all of us that don't have a forum?
i think there's a Lost thread over on the movies and tv forum. They seem to grow a lot of tropicals...
Ha, ha. Well, I have a forum (ORV) , but they don't talk much gardening.
"All Cosmically Connected Gardeners Dedicated to Scattelogical Ramblings and Dirt" Patti
bbrookrd--shouldn't you be doing something more exciting tonight than going around renaming forums!? LOL
At least this one isn't quite as political as 'Trash, Flotsam and Jetsam' or whatever you call the so-called 'Native' plant forum!
Actually, I like the idea of a Lost Gardener's Forum. Sounds kind of like a neat idea.
Ducking here...Terry's gonna tar and feather me. LOL
Ducking here...Terry's gonna tar and feather me. LOL
Tabasco, I am suppose to be finishing my taxes, but this is far more amusing. How about "Inclusive and Irrational and Irreverent" or "Random Denizens of Dirt and Detritus" I have to post a coop order then back to my taxes. Patti
Since I'm ducking, I guess Quack Quack Quack might work. LOL
Well ALL are welcome on the NE forum. I am extending that personally to you, tabasco! I have always said that as long as you are northeast of somewhere, you're more than qualified and certainly welcome on our forum!
Victor, That is perfect "Northeast of Some Place Else" Mr. Rogers would be pleased. Patti
I think his neighborhood was southwest.
I think it must have been south something, because it was always a beautiful day.
Clucking chicken not duck. Ducks go quack. Chickens go cluck or something.
Cluckers and Quackers forum?
Just Quacks.
LOL
Victor, Well, he had a summer cottage in Madaket, Nantucket which is in on the western end of the Island. But that is Northeast of Pirl. And yes he always came into my store with his sneakers on and sometimes "The Sweater" and was pretty much the same guy you saw on TV. But where in the "southwest" do you mean? Patti
Did he really? We love him in our house. My father always did too.
Actually NE still sounds good to me. It gives a place to start, no matter how many people chime in. I don't try tropical since I can't grow anything like that. So don't be a goose and keep it simple.
Victor, He was a great reader and would call often to order books or see if we had a title in that he was looking for. You knew by the first word that he uttered that it was him, but you felt stupid gushing out, "oh, Mr Rogers" so it took me a long time to call him just "Fred".
He came in one day asking for a new book by Fannie Foxe about Tomatoes and DH had to pull him aside before anyone heard and explain that Fannie Foxe was the stripper caught frolicking in the fountain with Congressman Wilbur Mills, not the author of "Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe". He had a good laugh and a comeback about the wrong kind of Tomatoes!
He would slip in and sign all the copies of any of his books we got in and people would be so happy to have found a signed copy on the shelf. One day a little boy saw him writing in a book and came to the counter and told me that someone was "scribbling in a book" I took the child over to Mr. Rogers and introduced him and the boy almost fainted. He wanted to know if he had brought Bob Dog to Nantucket. The boys parents where sitting outside on the bench waiting for their child and were shocked when he came out hand in hand to introduce them to his new "friend" Mr. Rogers. Too cute. Patti
Patti, what a wonderful story about a wonderful man! The world lost a touch of grace when he died.
(I have nothing to contribute about the forum renaming.... but I do like the humor and stories that are going along with it!)
Geesh---I went to bed at 11 p.m. after I placed my Calla lily co-op order. (not 'wildflowers' or are they (?) and I see bbookrd bought out the store on those anyway...) and a lot more went on here--
So touching about Mr. Rogers -- must have been fun to own the store and meet all kinds of interesting customers/friends. He was such a presence on American TV for so many years...and sounds like he was really a good man, too.
Thanks for your offer to include me in the 'Quackers' forum, or are we back to the 'New England' forum? I will take you up on it! (-: I am North East of somewhere, but I usually don't know where I am.
Happy gardening today. I am going to work on putting up our Bluebird houses (time to do that if you haven't done it already in the New England and elsewhere, too!) and do some Wintersowing.
TTFN tabasco
How about 'New England and Elsewhere' forum?
I was under the impression that anyone could post on any forum, if it is pertinent, is that correct?
Tabasco, Not true, I showed more restraint than you. Yes, I did have many recognizable customers. But I don't go to movies so I missed many and only realized that they were a somebody by others reactions.
One funny event was when had gentleman come up and ask if I had a book by Andy Rooney, kind of strange as it was Andy Rooney. I countered, "Why would you want to read that?" I waited for him to react, but he just stared at me, annoyed. So I said, "well, you did write it didn't you? Finally he smiled. But when I suggested that I could ring it up for him, he left and didn't buy anything.
Writers would often ask about their own book and would be really irratated when you didn't plan to order it, no matter how little it would appeal to my clientele or to me. I didn't stock a great many of the "best sellers" or what I called "airport spinner rack reads", as they were readily available 3 blocks away at the newspaper store. Not my niche or interest, which many people could never understand. I had to be very diplomatic about why I had no stock of their shlock.
I had one very well known regular customer who was serious writer who asked if I could do him a huge favor and order 5 copies of a particularly badly written, but hot bestseller, as its author was coming to his house for the weekend and he wanted to bring him to the store. So I ordered the books, got a heads up call form him and then placed them prominently inside the door, front and center in the "New and Recommended"section. They came, and left and so did the books, back to the publisher in the next return box.
Back to the Name. I think we all know that this really is "The NE Realm of Victor & Friends: Interlopers and Lurkers Welcome" Patti
Andy Rooney is something of a curmudgeon, isn't he! and a cheap one!
Funny about the 'well-known writer', too!
Some of this I understand. Many years ago I used to work for a publisher and they would ask us to go around to book stores and check on the books...move them from the bottom shelf to the middle or a table, etc. Authors did this too. I don't know if it helped!
frostweed--of course, anyone can post on anything. We're just joshing here! I hope. (-:
