DAILY PICS VOL 67

Central, KY(Zone 6b)

Pelle has asked me to start the new thread, thanks :-) We came from here http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/813071/

I can't believe how these threads are rolling along. We've had a lot of bird activity lately due to the cold, snow and ice. Poor little fellows are trying to keep their little heaters going.

Happy Birding Every One and Happy Valentines Day too!

I'm going to start this thread with another pic of my new friend, Mrs. Pileated Woodpecker

I just love when the pics come out good on the female Northern Cardinals, it seems that sometimes they look so drab.

I don't know what this White-breasted Nuthatch was looking at, LOL, it thought he looked pretty funny with his neck stretched out like a chicken :-)

Here is a couple of a female cardinal. The second is an odd one. She has a blue patch on her chest??? BEV

Thanks Nanny!

You just gotta love those Red-bellies! My males fight and bicker among themselves all of the time, I've even seen them hit in mid air and fall to the ground still fussing.

I really like the open wing shots too, maybe because they're so hard to get.

Here she is with her blue patch.

Super pics sadie!

Nice pics nanny and Bev!

Sadie Mae, Love your "Chicken Nuthatch"
Nanny, beautiful shots of that Dove!
Bev, I really would like to see that Cardinal with its breast in the sunshine if you can get it.
Gardenpom my Inca Doves found their Valentine. (replying to your post in Vol 66) This is from September. I think birds are just like kids: they like to make a liar out of you. The day before I took this shot I posted another picture of Inca Doves and titled it "shy birds" because they always took off when I came outside. Then the very next day several of them practically rolled around on my feet. rofl
Happy Valentines Day everybody

Sadie, thanks for starting the new thread and for posting the pic of the Pileated. I haven't seen ours lately but can hear them.

Here are a few more icy pics...we are melting today and the sun is shining so home I can get some blue sky pics today!

Here's a male Cardinal.

Chestnut-backed Chickadee finally showed up again after I spent like 2 months watching for them. They were aloneg with Ruby-crowned Kinglet. I find them both next to impossible to get decent images of, because by the time you get the camera focused, they are flitting on. If they're still around, I'll keep trying. I'm still excited to have them show up again.

Here's the Kinglet in bad light.

Yesterday, temps dropped from 57 at midnight to around 23 in the afternoon. All the birds were puffed up from the cold, especially this yellow rumped warbler.

Sorry Resin. Though they are really bad, I do have pictues of the color on the crown. I didn't realize both the Golden and the Ruby males had the blaze of brilliant color.

Babies coming ...

A little while ago, I peeked out the diningroom window to see if I had any activity at my feeders. My scaled quail haven't been coming around for about a month; but there was a pair of them outside. I quickly grabbed my cameras and as I was trying to focus in on them, ... well, see for yourself.

This little courtship lasted about 2 seconds. And folks talk about rabbits being quick! LOL

LOL, okay no funny comments. Very nice pic Jane!

Kodiak, AK

Hi all: Just a note and a few pictures to follow from Alaska. I have the typical feeders out (sunflower, suet, thistle) but this fall also made a wreath out of Mountain Ash berries, which I froze until Christmas. As it is still frozen here I have been pulling in some different birds than usual.
This one is a bohemian waxwing.

Thanks for the advice on which forum to come to pelle. I do enjoy all the bird pictures.

Beautiful pic Kodiak!

Thats a great idea (making the wreath)!

Here is one of about 5 of the varied thrush that have been coming around.

And...a crossbill. These come to the feeders in flocks. They sure love the sunflower seeds.

Welcome to the BW Forum Kodiak! It is always great to see pics of the birds of our Northern neighbors. I love the idea of freezing the wreath also!

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Sybil, thank you for the congrats on the previous thread regarding my little Bewicks Wren. That is the cutest little bird and I still haven't gotten a picture outside of the feeding cage...but I'm just happy to see it so regularly! I stopped at the Conservation office yesterday and reported it and they said they would give the info to the "bird guy"!
