Happy birthday to "The Rose Queen"

Greensboro, AL

You boys just wait 'til Miss Pirl sees what you have done to her thread for Zuzu! Just like sticking your fingers in the frosting on the birthday cake. Oh. My.

Bald. Here's another rose to make up for the silliness.

with apologies, Miss Pirl and Sweet ZuZu.
I just can't make these boys behave.

Greensboro, AL

That rose is a beauty, Victor.

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

Thanks for the new wishes, Dawn, Polly, and Al. All of this talk about the rose named Bob reminds me of that early Beatles press conference, when one reporter asked derisively what they called that haircut, and they replied "Arthur."

The rose is a beauty, Al, and if it came from a florist, it's probably something we couldn't grow well without access to a hothouse in Ecuador, but there is a rose for the rest of us called Careless Love that looks very much like that one.

I always stick my fingers in the frosting, Gloria. It's the best part of the cake.

Sharon, you'd probably have to grow at least another foot if you wanted to make these boys behave. Women who are 5 feet tall don't inspire fear.

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Shhhhhhhhh, Zu, darlin', they don't know that.

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

too late... they are smart... I think no woman can actually inspire any kind of fear on any of them....

the rose I posted has no name... since it was from a florist... sorry Mike... I have been looking to see if I can root one... can you imagine!?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I'll have to check the name of my last one.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Did you have Robert, Victor? a bit more pricey.

I have one of varied parentage, 'DiscomBobulate.'

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

You're Italian - I can't believe you don't have Bobalouie, or is that French?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Bobalu - and I do.

Greensboro, AL

Bobalu? I thought that was Cuban. - You remember? Ricky Ricardo ...
Desi Arnez?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Sorry, Zuzu. This happens when they eat junk food and soda.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Si!!

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

OK, guys, I am going out to dinner.
Can you please stay out of trouble while I am gone?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Have a good time!

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

I want the leftovers in the doggie bag !

Speaking of junk food and soda...it's PIZZA NIGHT !!!!!!!

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

Kassia, I hope you succeed in rooting that one. It really is a gem.

Yes, Gloria, that's the one. It's a really nice rose. I bought it in the band size from Vintage and it got big very quickly.

Pizza sounds great, JD.

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Sorry, JD...no leftovers.
But a good time was had by all.

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

You're already back, Sharon? It's not even midnight by your time, is it?

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Thanks anyway, Sharron...I ate an entire lg. 4 topping pizza .

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Yep, back now, Zu. The folks I met were heading back to Cincinnati early tomorrow. It was later for them than it was for me. Good food, good drinks....nice music, friends. A good time.
And JD, my cats asked me where the kitty bag was, too....they were also disappointed.

I can't believe you ate my share of the pizza.

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

JD - an entire 4 topping large pizza? Without help?

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

YUP !

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

How much soda to wash it down?
That's lotsa pizza...makes me thirsty!!!

By the way - what was the temp today in LB?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

We had pizza, too.

Seems like the guys finally quieted down. It was fun while it lasted.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Our temp. high yesterday was probably around 75....I didn't check, but I had shorts on, so...

The pizza got washed down with regular old iced tea.

This birthday just keeps chuggin' along. I had a birthday picnic at Sonoma Horticultural Nursery today. It's an incredibly gorgeous place -- almost 8 acres of shade plants. It looks more like a botanical garden or a national park and it's ridiculous to think it's right inside the town of Sebastopol. There wasn't much in bloom yet, but some of the dogwoods and rhodies were already going nuts.

This was a nice dogwood.

Oh! Those are lovely!! Thank you for sharing.(from the snow bunny)

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

Oh Zu, I can just imagine what it will look like a few weeks from now!!!

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

I'm going to go back every couple of weeks from now until June so I don't miss anything. I love the Exbury Azaleas most of all. They're so vibrant and they're already full of buds.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I'm so glad you got to spend a wonderful day in beautiful gardens you don't have to maintain but can just enjoy.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Zuzu, Happy belated Birthday to an amazing woman! Rose Queen, Rock Queen & Queen of Letters!

Your knowledge & generosity are a gift!

David
