I am about to order from Jerry @ DirectSource Hostas and I am going to order some that like sun and some that like deep shade. Anyone out there in my zone have any tips for growing Hostas in zone 9b?
growing Hostas in zone 9b
Even if they say they're for sun, I wouldn't grow them in full sun in your zone. They might be able to handle morning sun (up until 11am) and late afternoon sun (4pm and later) but they would probably suffer if they had to bear the hot, mid-day sun.
Which version of zone 9 are you in? The Florida version, the Texas version, or the California version (or somewhere else entirely?) Unless you're in coastal California then I agree about them not being able to take mid-day or afternoon sun, but some of the other care considerations may vary depending on where you are.
yeah texas sun, worst part is 3 pm to sundown in summer.
I've tried them in shade in Zone 10a and they still fried.
They'd probably do better for you in containers, then you could move them around if you had to.
