Wonderful pics Everyone!!!

GP nice flight shots! Do you need ID's on them?

Melbourne, FL

I think they are Red-Shouldered, but I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong. I'm not very good at this.

Santa Fe, TX(Zone 9b)

Last winter I had hundreds of Yellow Rumps. This winter they all stayed in Ft. Worth.

Santa Fe, TX(Zone 9b)

tigerlily, this is what I believe your Scrub Jay was really doing, as I have first hand experience with a Jay holding something down while pecking it apart.

Now that's something I haven't seen before!

Love the heron shots - love all the shots.

I just saw one of my beautiful red male Cardinals get chased down and captured by a Hawk. :-(

Terrific pictures! I love the Blue Jay in the hand. :-) It's been snowy here and my pictures never seem to come out good anymore. But here is some. A male Cardinal, a Purple Finch and a Goldfinch.

And here's a cold looking Goldfinch.

creekwalker, it looks like the gloomy light has decreased your contrast a bit. See if you can boost it a bit.

Santa Fe, TX(Zone 9b)

Sorry for your loss, pelle.

Marlton, NJ

Thanks trois.

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

Sigh.

Marlton, NJ

Its okay, just very hard to watch. The last time I saw him w/ the Cardinal the Card was still alive barely so I couldn't watch anymore.

Bummage Pelle! :-

Well Trios, I hope to see more GF before winter's over... They are so beautiful! Does the BJay ever peck your finger?

Nice ones Adel and CW!

Resin~ I noticed the GF here had a darker beak than what people usually post, and the ones in the book... Almost thought it might be a Lesser, except it did have the white ventral tail covert...

Deb, the Jay probably hammered away on pecans and almonds more than a hundred times, and never once hit me. Also never pooped on me. They can be nice if they like someone.

We have plenty of GFs here now.

Filling up quickly today!

I had another reasonable day, nothing too exciting though.

Near the top of an oak, looks like one of my baby Wood Pigeons getting grown up feather colours. I love the shiny green on it's neck.

Great Tit.

Thumbnail by wallaby1

Great photos again everyone. Pelle, I'm sorry you had to see the taking of your Cardinal. I have a Sharp-shinned Hawk and a Roadrunner that hunt at my feeders sometimes. I've done everything I can to put the feeders in as safe a place as I can. It always makes me feel bad when one of the birds gets taken though I know it is part of nature.
I had a very nice day birdwatching. Just yesterday NM_Jane posted a picture of a yellow house finch & until today I had never seen one. Thank you Jane for sending it 75 miles north to me! (I think it is a Yellow House Finch)

I like that background, too, Wallaby.

Great pics everyone!

Pelle: Know how you must feel. I watch a hawk kill one of "my" ducklings last summer. Very difficult. :(

Deb

Nice pics guys!

Yes angele thats the House Finch; I wouldn't mind seeing them in that color.

Thanks for the confirmation Pelle. The red House Finch is probably the most common bird I see. I have lots of White-crowned Sparrows and Gambel's Quail too.

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

I was stumped by this bird, but came to the conclusion it must be a Dunnock. In spring they apparently show themselves more, it's song was similar to a Robin. It sat on top of a low apple tree singing away.

This was later, it came back to the same tree.

Wow this Tread is flying by. Nice wonderful pictures everyone.

I got, a never seen before bird in my yard today, he wore a mask, he didn't want to be IDed, but I think he's a Northern Shrike.

Thumbnail by burn_2007

Nice one burn_2007! I've only seen a Loggerhead Shrike once and even looking at the pictures side by side, yours & mine & the ones in Sibleys, I just can't tell for sure if yours is a Loggerhead or Northern. I am so indecisive, lol very frustrating for a birder!
