Another challenge

This is to the side of the porch, you should see the steps. Over to the left are the walk and right in front of the tree stump is walk too. I would love to have something ever green in there as well as some flowers, Maybe marigolds as a border, or mexican heather?

The soil looks really dry so I would suggest planting some herbs or even a mass planting of Lavender as when you walk past this area to get to the steps, then the perfume will brush you and send out the wonderful smell. even Nepeta (catmint ) would romp and tumble over that area, you can then either inter plant with Marigolds or some other roses, instead of climbing roses, peg them into the ground as ground cover for a really spectacular colour combination should you choose Catmint or Lavender, you will need to water the roses, but both Catmint and lavender wont be planted too close together due to the spread of these plants, you can water the roses individually so you dont over water the other plants that like a drier arid soil condition, another good ground cover if you get the roots into shade is Clematis, they grow along the ground in their natural habitat, it is us people who prefere them to climb. hope this gives you some ideas, Good luck Weenel.

It really does! I love the idea of the lavender and the clematis. I wouldn't have thought of letting the clematis grow along the ground. I guess most climbers could do that.

Well, I never thought of Clematis as a sprawler. Good to know! Lorraine, I see the makings of a goreous entrance way. Don't lose that stump. It would make for a rustic pedstal for a planter, with plants flowing "up around and down", as they say.

I love the stump. After they cut down the tree, my son leveled it off so I could put a plant there. I had nasturiums there last year, this year I'm not sure yeat, but the nasturiums didn't get quite enough sun,. they were really pretty, but didn't last as long as they should
