DebinSC, is that photo of your magnolia posted in the plant gallery? I noticed you had a few others on that link, but you really should share that photo, too. It's gorgeous!

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

I sent diehard a link to these guys. http://stores.ebay.com/Coconut-Climber They have a lot of cold hardy palms at a reasonable price think he might be fine with them.

Georgetown, SC(Zone 8a)

Fleurs: No, I didn't post that photo for plant files. Thanks for the suggestion. :)

Sumter, SC(Zone 8a)

Fleurs - I hear ya....I cleaned up the table prior to pics...trust me....it was looking mighty pitiful...packs of seeds everywhere ( I went to park seed again yesterday and bought...yes ...more seeds LOL) peat pots , bags of soilless mix, labels..you'd have thought it was the GH at first glance....LOL

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

I did think it was a green house and thinking nice windows. LOL. Looked like it was built on to your house.

Sumter, SC(Zone 8a)

well the first pic was the outdoor GH LOL..heres a pic looking in...I love it! the best Christmas present I ever got...ok well the ring this year was great too...but the GH beats all hands down cause it meant he really got it that I loved gardening...kinda like when i bought him a 1970 Mercury Cyclone to use as parts...cause thats his thing :o) see how that works...I get him something and then he can't complain about what I want...yes there is a method to my madness....

here's outside looking into the real GH LOL

i think i'll use the ebay store as a place to get palms that the other store did not have.... they are much more steeply priced on ebay

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

The ones from the ebay store are a lot bigger. floribundapalms.com seems to sell very small like months old palms. Might be worth it to get bigger ones. How many palms you planning on planting? Actually you live in Island West don't you? If true you guys don't have big yards so I have no idea how your fitting all this stuff in.

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

i have one of the biggest yards... i still have half of the back yard i havent touched yet!
this is what i want
zamia skinneri (?) 75 (probably not... but it is such a beauty!
trithrinax dwarf spineless 3
trachycarpus martianus 3.50
trachy oreophylus 4
trachy gemenisectus 5
sabal minor v. louisiana 1.50
rhapis excelsa 1.50
livistona decipiens 1.75
jubaea chilensis 2
chamaerops humilis v cerifera 2
arenga engleri 1.5 (or 3)

butia yatay 2.50 (spell yatay backwards and its the same!)
brahea super silver 5
macrozami communis 8
nannorrhops ritcheana 2

I am so ashamed of myself, I should have posted about the Southeastern Palm Society's meeting at the Bamboo Farm in Savannah last Saturday. We have just begun a re-model on the house and with all the hammering going on my brain is not working well at the moment. (There are some that would say that is not unusual.)

You can get all types of rare but hardy palms at their sales and the prices are right too. They also feature hardy tropicals. One of the members owns Chilly Palm Nursery which is right here in York, SC (I think.) The SEPS journal comes out quarterly and there are always ads for places with the unusual palms.

Membership is inexpensive; check out www.sepalms.org

thanks ardesia! better late then never! LOL I bet diehrd will love the link...I am off to check it out now

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

Forgot to tell Diehard about the bamboo farm and the hardies they have down there. They use to have a web site but that seems to be gone now.

Oh those are topdressed pansies. I planted the spring bulbs, then topdressed with pansies for instant color over the winter. They make a nice companion planting.
