The bulbine or the GH? lol

the GH was a royal pain to put together, my darling and I nearly killed each other and ourselves with it...lol

I have a geenhouse. It is small, but it came already assembled. It was delivered on a flatbed truck.

I had to cut expenses after the death of my husband, and that was one place I cut back. I had the electricity cut off to the greenhouse. It is a good distance from the house and it was on a separate meter. I had to pay a minimum charge every month ($25.00), whether I used it or not.

Now I just use it to store gardening supplies in! I sure miss it!
Maybe someday ....

Pat

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

Really, Pat?

I am paying a lot to heat mine, but I really think next year I may try to go without heating it. Even with the heat full blast (I can only afford a lil space heater0 many mornings I've gone in with it 40 degrees and ice on the walls...ironically I have lost very few tropicals. I'm thinking I'll use it to keep things dormant and a lot of the things that are ok now would be fine without the heat...borderline hardy tropical stuff

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

i just notice the saucer magnolias coming out here... andthe windmill palms are almost blooming too!

Georgetown, SC(Zone 8a)

Diehrd: Yes, our pink magnolia has a few blooms open waaayy up top. There are 3 in our neighborhood that seem to be in full bloom! Love it.
Little red azalea, just starting now. :)

there were these little flowers inthe woods that looked like bells, but arranged like bleeding heart (you know... evenly spaced on an arching stem) that smelled like paperwhites. these i'm sure were planred along with the gladiolus, roses, wisteria and crape myrtle i have seen in the same location .... i think there was a house there once upon a time

Plainwell, MI(Zone 5b)

very nice azalea....:)

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

yes very nice

Clemmons, NC

diehard,

Why don't you rescue the poor things and take them to your garden to live?

Could the while bell like flowers be lily-of-the-valley?

Pat

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

I am thinking they might be galanthus:

or

or

It sounds like a place you might want to get some bulbs or cuttings from. What kind of gladiolas are they? If they are the ones that bloom early in the spring and are a deep fuschia color, they might be Byzintines which are pretty valuable. A lot of the older gardens have them.

Garner, NC(Zone 7b)

Both, Trop!
Yeah, dhs...we all want you to rescue some of the bulbs:-)
Bev

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

theyre some of those leucojum things... but which ones???... idk the
i have never seen the glads bloom, so idk what kind they are

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

best to dig a few and send them to NC just to be safe...lol

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

But they might not be hardy way up there. I think it best they just come across the Port Royal Sound and live here. LOL

Clemmons, NC

I'm with you Tropicana! I think NC would be a good "orphans home" for lost and forgotten flowers!

Pat

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

I'm right down the road think I can hang on to them just to keep them safe.

Old can be exotic some times.

Sumter, SC(Zone 8a)

WOo HOo, your garden is lookin' good.

It seems we are due for a bit of cool weather later this week but after that I am declaring spring has sprung!

Georgetown, SC(Zone 8a)

Wow Rednyr! You have alot goin' on there! I love quince! Gotta get some. :)

Sumter, SC(Zone 8a)

thanks ladies...I have overwintered my Gerberas the last two years in the greenhouse because they really make me smile in the winter when nothing else is welcoming if you know what I mean...I also have the usual plethora of pansys, violas, panolas, hyacinths and crocus sprouting about the yard....the panolas (sp?) have done the best this year....

Awww. Sweet pansies. So dependable. Purple are my faves.
This is the only thing
"new" blooming today in my garden.

One little starflower.(Ipheion uniflorum) Hoping there'll be many more.

deb thats beautiful!

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

wow, you guys...love the ipheion, camellias and daphne. My daphne is pitiful but has buds, and I will get pictures of it, they are sooo slow.

I have tulips coming up but I know they won't bloom (3years old and didn't bloom last year)...should I just pull them and toss them or is there anyway they can be salvaged?

Plainwell, MI(Zone 5b)

wow very pretty ladies and "gents?" alright when does the "spring" there start and when does it end??? im confused cause you know spring only comes around here when the snow says so. and then it sure doesnt seem to last very long... you all seem to really have a beautiful spring even though its early.... i have enjoyed chatting with all you so much thanks for all the georgeous flower photos!!! Ronna

Sumter, SC(Zone 8a)

Ronna,

The first day of the Spring Equinox is March 20th, however, with the 60+ weather here it feels pretty good already! Have a cold snap coming thru the nights this week and if last year is a predictor of how unpredictable the weather is down here in the Carolinas we will get a late frost in April zapping all of our hard work with winter sown seeds...arrghhhh

Hey everyone don't forget tomorrow nite there is a Lunar Eclipse - in the Carolinas peak time is 10pm with the show starting at 8:43 and ending at 11pm

Here is a link if anyone is interested in more info for your area:

Deanna

Plainwell, MI(Zone 5b)

thanks Deanna!!! I kinda knew that but am jealous that spring in SC is so early...

Sumter, SC(Zone 8a)

Ronna - thats why I moved south in the first place! :)~ After 18 yrs in the Adirondacks of NY and then nearly 17 yrs in Northern Indiana had made me bitter towards the cold...no pun intended LOL Lake effect snow and wind was horrid as I am sure you know! Gotta say I truly love the weather in the south (ok except for maybe August when you start praying for a break in the heat and humidity)

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Hi everyone,
Question for rednyr regarding the Daphne, I just discovered the Daphne odora this year. Its fragrant is wonderful! Will they tolerate our hot sun? Or will they bloom in deep shade? Your comment is greatly appreciated.
