Angele: I've only seen a Phainopepla once in my life and that was in the desert outside Palm Springs. The photo I took was just a blur. So nice to see what it really looks like! Thanks for posting it. :)
DAILY PICS VOL. 61
heehee Deb, I've never seen a Chickadee in person so I'm loving your photos too :-)
oh pooh and bother! Sorry Deb.. but I've never seen a Pileated WP either :-)
Nice pics trois and rita!
Those Sharp-shinned are incredible to watch in action aren't they.
Poor Cardinals!
Nice pics dragon!
Thank you Pelle. I have a strange thing here I will post today. It is a female cardinal with a bright blue patch on her chest. I wonder what would cause that!! I haven't got them on here yet. Bev
LOL, dragonfly!
Great hawk pics, ritapg.
Bird envy here. Loving all of your pictures! Can't believe the bird in hand pics, such a cool thing to experience I bet. Trois you have had that experience with your Jays.
I liked all the pictures but I have to say the hawk was my fav.. We have red tailed hawks around alot and even tho they snatch a little one now and then I can't help but be blown away by their grace. They make sitting on a wire look pretty. Now if I tried that wonder what the birds would say!
oh tigerlilly! what a cutie that fox sparrow is! Love the spotted chest!
Fox Sparrow, Western Mountain Race
Ooooops!
Hermit Thrush. Note the thin bill.
Resin
Do any of you develop special relationships with individual birds? It sounds like you do tigerlily. There are individual birds that visit my feeders daily that I have grown to love. A couple of Verdin, a Pyrrhuloxia I've named Pete and a Curved-bill Thrasher named Sam. These are birds that stay very close and even fly over within a foot or so of me when I am outdoors. They know I'm refilling feeders and their water dishes.
I am extremely fond of this bird, a Say's Phoebe - Sayornis saya, I guess because it trusts me so even though it eats insects and not the food I put out. It lands in a nearby shrub very early in the mornings and watches and 'talks' as I do my chores and it is often one of the last birds I see in the evenings.
I stand corrected. Thanks, Resin. Will edit original post.
What sweet pics of the TM and Dees in the hand!! Debin!
Great pics everyone and all!
Gorgeous BJ shot Trois!
Angele ~ Nice capture of the Phainopepla
It's tornado season again, and we rarely get them here, but we are under a "watch" right now, and my birds seem to be hiding out....8^)
Debnes
Beautiful pics of the Hermit Thrush tiger!
Another beautiful pic angele!
Nice ones burn!
debnes,Good Luck and be careful!
Pelle
Nice shots angele!
I like your fancy feeder trois, gret pics again.
sweet little Thrush Tiger, I thought Thrush (recognised the spots, lol).
burn, I like the flying pose against the tree with snow.
My friendly Thrush takes no notice of me, or looks at me as a friend. It was stood 'listening' not far from me but I was on the other side of the drain, then pounced and ate two worms. Worms stay under leaves when it's very wet, a good reason to leave them there longer.
So great to see the Phainopepla, angele! I haven't seen one since I lived in Tucson. And your list makes me very nostalgic! It's been 10 years! I had a verdin that loved my porch and I walked and birded almost everyday to balance out grad school. I used to see great horned owls and ladderback woodpeckers and Abert's Towhees, etc. I also had a family of Anna'a hummers at my feeder. The day before my comprehensive exam, a huge flock of meadow larks arrived and serenaded me mariachi style and I knew I would pass my exams-and I did! I saw the flocks of cranebills and on a step into NM, I saw several flocks of larkspurs. BTW, aren't cardinals and Pyrrhuloxias different birds? They were both in AZ.
Thx Pelle, I think it missed us..:-)
What a cute dottie spottie Thrush wallaby!!
Thats good debnes!
Love the Thrush wallaby!
Hi everyone, haven't posted on here for quite awhile but wanted you to see the Mallards eating the wildbird block and oh the Northern Pintail drake. He was the only one mixed in with the Mallards and that's the first time we've ever had DUCKS eat off the bird block. The lab pups were in the house so had no idea they were here.
Susan
Thanks again everyone. It is so wonderful to see all the different birds here. So many that I don't get to see in person.
Boojum so glad I could help bring back such happy memories. Love the 'sign' of the Mariachi Meadow Larks!!! :-))) The Pyrrhuloxia and Northern Cardinal are different species of the same genus. I'll post a photo of one in a bit.
