Tropical garden #4

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Some show on HG right now...Heights, Houston.

Red Oak, TX

Texasbigleaves, I spent the last few nice days cleaning and trimming in the greenhouses, Sadly found that I lost a lot of my special alocasias including my favorite Lutea, she is all mush. (sad)
On the happy side, Valentines day is a good opportunity to replace a few. I am ready for when DH says "what would you like for valentines day ?" I will have a full cart ready. (sneaky)

Rj. quite an impressive shot. It might make it into the Guiness World Records for the tallest castor bean tree grown in Houston.
I can tell that you have spring fever almost as bad as I do.

Rita, just which Walmart do you shop? I'm close to at least 3 and none of them have anything like what you show us.

LouC, I mostly shop the one in Waxahachie, that is where I get my groceries. They are always marking them down to half price.
Another good place is the Lowes' in Duncanville. The mark-down rack is usually my first stop. I bought a rubber tree plant for $3 last Friday.
Here is a picture of the rubber tree plant.

Beautiful. Are you talking about the Lowe's at Hampton & I20?

I go to Waxahachie all the time because we have very good friends that live there and a cousin. Will have to check WallyWorld. The new one in DeSoto and the one at Beltline and 35E has nothing. At least, when I have been there.
Maybe I don't know how to look.

WOW - I need to find your Lowes...

Red Oak, TX

LouC, that is the one on Hampton & I-20. The workers are very friendly and helpful.
I do not shop at the Wal -Mart on Beltline.
I would like to wish you'all a safe and enjoyable trip. Remember to take lots of pictures . We will still be having winter when you get back and will enjoy them immensely.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Thank you, Rita.

Rj, I think that the papayas that I have growing in my Red Oak garden are different from the ones growing in your garden. If you notice my fruits are short and fat. Yours are a little longer and skinnier( and much sweeter) like the ones growing at my home in Placencia.
I had heard about the Hawaiian papays, but never had any. They are said to be the best and most flavorful .

Sorry I got excited about the castor bean picture and overlooked the question.

Red Oak, TX

Candela, thanks for the plants. I will take very good care of them.
Here are some more greenhouse pictures . It is too cold to work outside .

Thanks..please answer before the 15th.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Rita,
exactly..which is why I wanted the seeds because they are different than mine!

Red Oak, TX

christmascactus, I might have to send you some more socks, you need to keep your feet warm during this time of the year.
About your question, I was hoping that someone else could answer it for you. I can not be confident in giving a completely accurate answer. I read where most citrus are grafted, and a seed might not breed true to the mother plant, and that Meyer lemons do come close to true from seeds.

Red Oak, TX

Rj, I am always too slow. The seeds will be in the mail as soon as they are ready.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

LOL, thanks that will make 3 types of Papayas I'll have...no hurry though..whenever!

Rj. fantastic display, you know that I got the magnifying glass out to look at it closely. Love the pink bromeliad and what is the blue flower in the background?

I am trying to identify this plant.

happy valentines day everyone

rj love the fish on top. i was wondering about the blue plant as well? blue ginger perhaps.

rita is that an anthurium of some sort? by the way this is the one of your new babies that i sent.

Thumbnail by candela
Red Oak, TX

candela, I hope that it grows real fast. I can't wait to get blooms like that. They are all planted in a new bed that I made last month .
My dh was excited about the coffee tree. He had always wanted one. He ordered a black pepper plant from a nursery in Forida. He also has an olive tree that bloomed last year but all the fruits fell off. Perhaps this year it might have olives.

rita
i hate to disappoint your husband but the coffee that i sent is a plant we call wild coffee. i really do not think it is an edible one. although it is a great butterfly plant.
sorry.. cassie

The blue flower is something I got at Topstropicals a few years ago, and I can't remember the name of it..I've been trying to find the name..and will post it..it is a winter blooming plant. Shruby, with glossy look leaves. There is another one in the garden about 7 feet tall with it blazing blue at the top right now.

okay..I found the name...they truely are the bluest blue!
Eranthemum pulchellum, Eranthemum nervosum
Blue sage, Blue eranthemum

Cassie, we will enjoy it. It has white blooms that attract butterflys and the birds like the berries. I would say it is a keeper. thanks.
