candela, that is so funny. I have been doing that for years. I would put them in with the old plants and he would never suspect anything until he does the checkbook.
I wish that I could have gone to the nursery with you yesterday, You got one of your ( must have plants). I have enjoyed the rangoon creeper that I have, even though it is single bloom. Your yard will be the sweetest yard in town.
The Hawaiian sunset vine is a great find, they are beautiful (save seeds).
Tropical garden #4
Thankyou Rita and Cassandra for all the plant names. It is beautiful sunshine today, so looks like I need to hit the nurseries and HD and Lowes. Thankyou so much for all the inspiration:) I know it may be too early to plant anything, but I am going looking anyway.
Debbie
that hawaiian sunset vine is a real beauty
Hey Rita would that be zone 6 or 7 hardy?
I would love to have a palm. :)
Lol I know Rita..a girl can dream right hahaha.
I saw some at Lowe's last week.... there is never anyone around to ask questions. :(
Indeed, it was a tree that size that inspired me to get one...It is a beautiful tree. I suppose it will fight for room like everything else or I'll keep it pruned. I am taking out a Crepe Myrtle tree too..so ..that's near the area I cleared the brugs..it will be like ...wow..so much room...what to do ...what to do...LOL.
This picture? it's not even the garden...it's the deck that goes to the garden.

Just reading and looking at the photos makes my heart beat faster. Randy, I am adding and changing as much as I can so I will have healthy space for whatever you choose to share. I have a really large back yard and I envision it as multiple rooms and paths. I will never be able to move.

Rita, knowing that you are so close (5 miles?) gives me courage that indeed a tropical garden can be accomplished right here in the middle of nowhere. Now, all I need is a greenhouse...
I'm sure the truck will be packed! The crepe myrtle is too big...it's not happy back there by the garage.
the palm you forgot the name of is Mediterranean/European Fan Palm called Chamaerops humilis
speaking of curcumas, how are those that i sent you?
Diehrdsouthrnr, the curcuma that you sent me, are waiting for it to get a little warmer. You know that I will send you pictures.
How is your cordyline negra doing after the transplant? I have been looking for one ever since I saw yours'. Mine has very short fat leaves (like me). I love those longer leaves. Did you say that they were 3' long?
yeah somewhere around 3'. it is growing slowly... i cut most of the leaves off to keep it from loosing too much water. right now it's in a pot until i decide where to put it. when should i divide the hibiscus coccineus for you... before it starts to grow or after??
about the cordyline, if it branches ever, i'll ake a cutting for you and send it to you, unless you've gotten one by then. is there any other way to propagate them other than by logs and seeds??
Good luck with your new cordyline. I am sure that I will find one in Florida. We are planning a road trip in May. On propagating them, I do not have any special formula. I would just put rooting hormone on the end and stick them in good seed starting soil, with good results.
I would wait until I can see the green shoots coming up on the hibiscus, before dividing them.
This is one of my success stories.
