What did you see on your walk? 2

We're coming from here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/792638/. Please share the interesting or pretty sights and sounds you experienced while taking a walk.......

This morning while walking along the River, we saw a huge flock of seagulls following a crabber as he pulled blue crabs out of one of his traps out in the River. How do so many of them know the crabber is due whenever he comes? Sorry, no photo....forgot the camera again, because I was busy putting on my heavy winter jacket and warm gloves this morning. Chilly here, but it warmed up into the 60s.

I'm looking forward to nice weather so I can resume hiking, gardening and photography!

It won't be long, Victor! You take such nice photos, and I am looking forward to seeing some from your first late winter walk!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks. I will be doing a series of Sunday AM hikes with a group and the first one is mid-March, so not too long!

Until then, we'd welcome some shots of Pitchfork Man cooking dinner as you walk around your house or the cell block - or wherever you find him. LOL

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Ooo, yeah! Pitchfork man!!

I walked to the car and back today. Didn't take my camera though. Here's a shot from my cousin's birthday party this Saturday. She had an outdoor chiminea. My son was throwing pine cones in for fun.

Do those things throw much heat?

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Yeah, it was about 25 deg. outside and everyone was happy. I only had on a sweatshirt, no coat.

Very cool, Harper! Looks toasty warm!! We have a combo chiminea/grill here that is pretty cool. It is from Mexico. The chiminea opening is in the bottom, and the grill part is the top of it. It works great now that my DH figured out that it works best to put a terra cotta block in the bottom to cover some of the opening when we use the grill part. He was going to build a BBQ pit at first, but when we found the chiminea, we thought it would take up less room around our small patio and it would do double duty. Here's a shot of it before the patio garden filled out the area.

Looks nice, Louise!

Thanks, Victor. It has been fun. The patio garden sure looks bare in that photo when compared with how it looks today.

I remembered to take my camera when we walked at sunset tonight. Here are a couple of pretty vistas.......The first is of one of the last Australian pines left around here. The hurricanes claimed the rest of them.

I like the silhouette of the Chinese Fan Palm in this one.......

I really like the second pic too Louise!

Thanks, Deb! One of my friends from work sent me a Chinese Fan Palm when we retired last year, and it almost didn't make it through the summer. It has come back some, but I hope it will get bigger. I really like the fans like the one in the photo.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Beautiful, Louise!

Donnie what is that plant in the front left bottom with the white flowers on it?? I really like that!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Thanks, Victor.

Dawn - it is Pseuderanthemum Laxiflorum; the tag called it "Shooting Stars", but our Plant Files has a different plant for that name. I really like it too and hope it can make it through the summer heat here. It is in constant bloom and doesn't require much care. I found it at HD when we first got here.

Today I had to go to HD to get some potting soil and mulch and something for pests eating my tomatoes. By the time I left, I had bought more superbells (scarlet and terra cotta) and a few other treats..........I'm dangerous at any store that sells plants. We then stopped at the Lowes next door to see if they had the hot pink periwinkles I want (and they didn't), but I walked out with a pretty hot pink hydrangea and a bag of 24 caladiums.........Oh, MY!!!

ooops - I forgot to mention that we saw something pretty cool on our walk this morning. In years past, we have had a pair of ospreys nest on a channel marker out in the River. We've been looking for them, but no luck until now.... Today, the male flew just above our heads with some leaves and twigs in his talons; we watched him go out to the channel marker where he joined Mrs O. and helped her begin the nest. We had our little binoculars with us, so we were able to watch them up close....very cool. Here's a shot of the channel marker out in the River, but sans ospreys!

Louise, the Chinese Fan Palm is beautiful. You did a great job of capturing the outline of the fans!

Cool Deb! Their claws don't hurt?

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I videotaped a few minutes because they were one after another the whole time

Their claws really don't hurt, but it was a bit cool, and my hands were a little rough and prickly after.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

OMGoodness Deb, thats awesome!!!!!!

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I would have stayed longer but I ran out of food.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

That last one is a Titmouse, one of my favorites.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Are these stills from the video or photos?

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Mine too - I had 2 of them in my hand once but wasn't quick enough with the camera.
I used to go to that park at least 4-5 times a week, I need to get back to doing that again.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

These are photos. I would love to post a video.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

And you took the photos too?

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Yes, and a Chickade landed on my hand while I was getting the camera out!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

So you shot with your left hand - are you left-handed?

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I'm right handed, it was with my little canon powershot, easy to hold and click in my left. I've also done the same with my rebel, but this camera gave me better pics. At one point I held my hand 6 inches in front of my face to see if they would land that close, and they did. They really look cool that close - but no pic that close.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Do they come to your hand right away or are they reluctant at first?

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

This was at a park, and they will fly to you as soon as they see you. Some are a little timid and will eat what falls on the ground. Today was the first time I had Titmice hand feed. A White Breasted Nuthatch was nearby but he didn't join in. DH has gotten both Chickadees and Tiymice to hand feed at home, but he'll stand for an hour in the cold, and the ones at home are timid.Actually today was the most frequent I've ever had.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

I would have been one big GOOSEBUMP!!! The excitement of having all those birds eat out of my hand would have sent me over the edge!
