It works great now that my DH figured out that it works best to put a terra cotta block in the bottom to cover some of the opening when we use the grill part. He was going to build a BBQ pit at first, but when we found the chiminea, we thought it would take up less room around our small patio and it would do double duty. Here's a shot of it before the patio garden filled out the area.
