ROFL!
Ah 'spose Ah can not be too careful shuuug! (North Cackalakie accent)

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

ROTFLOL..okay ...I just answered the phone at work as I read the Cackalakie accent and just started laughing on the phone...! It was a friend thank goodness.
You know...I was just day dreaming on how to use that other pad to warm the bed up...LOL...

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

4 1/2 inches of the white stuff, roads were a mess!
30 accidents in the first hour of traffic on the way to work, they had to close hwy 54 down for the amount of wrecks this morning.
If you stopped at a stop light you could hardly take off again, tires would just spin on the ice.

Marcy ,I have 2 small ones, green and a variegated one,I do know they don't liked to be move or they will drop all there leaves, real quick like!!!
Very good price, never seen them that cheap before!!!

In the warmer weather they grow roots from cuttings very easily.I think rubber plants are coming back into fashion, and why not ...garden fashions drive me nuts just like any fashion ...no one good thing about being mature is that you can just love things weather they are in vogue or not :)
So sorry to hear about the weather everyone ...there is a fair bit of strife down this way too still having storms every night, trees down roofs gone and flooding but at least we don't freeze when the power is out.
take care everyone and remember those rubber tree cuttings next Summer.

Ok thanks.

Gee sorry everyone I was very tired when I posted last night and I forgot to say that the rubber tree plants grow the roots very easily in water oooops. My grandson always tells me not to post when I am tired.I get a little vague around midnight it seems.
99% humidity here this morning ...raining again of course.
We have some wonderful rubber plants coming out now with shades of pink through to reds I am looking forward to getting one or two of them to add to my plain old green ones.
Stay warm everyone and please if my posts are a bit odd ...tell me to go to bed :)
chrissy

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Chrissy, you are never odd. When we married in 1961 it was mandatory that everyone have a rubber plant. They were notorious for having only one leaf left on the top. No one had the slightest idea how much or how little water they needed. They were planted in huge pots in preparation for when they would be a big tree.
All the dime stores sold them for $3.98. What a different world we live in now.

LouC

Hi LouC yes I remember carting my indoor ones off into the shower every Saturday morning for it's weekly shower of tepid water ...suddenly they seem to have been re discovered, only this time around I hope people know not to put them down the side of the house when they get sick of them or they go out of fashion once more ...this will spell disaster and make everyone hate them for another 40/50 years, I am wrestling with my inner voice at the moment with this question, should I tell those nice people a mile up the road that those two rubber trees planted out the front of their nice new fence (brick) in the nature strip which is about 30 ft from their nice new house (brick) that they will soon be tearing up the pavement, breaking the fence down and heading for the house the two trees have been planted about ten ft apart and have already hit 20ft high and touching each other in a fairly short time, would you tell them ? should I?
chrissy

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

With your superior knowledge and kind demeanor, I think they would be glad to know. I sure wish I had you around to help guide.

BTW, I have never seen a RT larger than 4-5 feet and about 2 inch trunk (stem).
Have never seen one grown in the ground. What a difference the other side of the world makes. hahahaha

Yes, I think they would appreciate some help.

Christi

PS. Unless Randy had one hidden somewhere in his jungle and I didn't recognize it.

New Madison, OH(Zone 5a)

Chrissy...you ARE talking about the Ficus tree.....right????? I think I read where they are in the rubber tree family?
Having BIG problems with my puter here. I have to keep rebooting to even get on a website! Not sure how long that will last?? How swell!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I have to take pictures of some of the Rubber trees in the Heights...20 plus feet tall....I'll have to make a point of it tomorrow. I think they have heat cables at the base, is the only reason I can think of that they live through the cold weather...

I do have a rubber tree about 8 feet tall...this is a picture after I divided it 3 ways...it was so heavy I couldn't believe it. It's taller than this picture, as you can see...that was the fern tree when it was a smaller fellah. Now you know why you didn't see it, because the fern has swallowed it up with those huge fronds.

But if you haven't seen one larger...here is one at Jerry Jungles...his Vietnemese Rubber tree.
The ones in the Heights are a bit taller..

Tropicman must be in the Plant Cave having dinner! LOL

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

Or probably is glued to the news to see what all is going on outside.

Interesting news: We kept hearing alot of plants last night and couldn't figure out why. Figured Whiteman was doing night manuevers. Nope. It was Pres Bush and everyone else flying overhead. He was in town. They were low enough to rattle the house a bit. lol

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

and I thought he was in the middle east....he was in the midwest...aaahh..I should pay attention

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

LOL. It was big news here cause of all the traffic jams he tends to cause at rush hour.

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Here I am to save the day!!!
You all probably don't remember Mighty Mouse!!!LOL

Had delivery pizza tonite, had 3 slices and fell a sleep watching Bill O'Riley!!!!
Woke up in time to do my chores!!!!!

Brr was 2* this morning,I weld right next to one of those huge air doors, that forklifts drive in and out of,and the door would stick open, and that cold air would rush in around me,my feet were so cold, and my bones were so stiff, and the more hot coffee I'd drink, the more I would have to visit the mens room!!!!

Come on spring!!!!!

South Venice, FL(Zone 9b)

Mighty Mouse is on the way! I remember!

Good golly Robyn I think we need to plan a field trip to your house the end of this summer to see what the Tropical Dynamic Duo have cooked up for your acreage. Sounds like nirvana...

Tammy, I got the heat mats that Rj ponted out at Sktcraft, they came yesterday. Hubby hooked up a dimmer switch and it works wonderfully! The one thing I wanted to pass along to you is that the mats must have fiberglass in them. I found that handling them and then touching a sensitive spot (I scratched above my eye) led to an itchy sensation. I'd suggest wearing gloves when you're handling them. Other than that, I'm really pleased with the mats, only have one set up for now, so I'm only using up half the kitchen table!

WOW Cathy, you got yours really fast! I hope mine comes today. Thanks for the warning cause that fiberglass really bothers me, no matter where I touch myself! Can't wait to get to use mine!

Good morning Sweet Ones!
It's a beautiful day in the neighbourhood...♫♪♫.. A beautiful day in the neighbourhood...♫♪♫
Sun's bright, temps moving along to a high 60's! No rain!
So sorry that winter is so unbearable for you in the colder regions. Preaching to the choir aren't I if I kept on saying, please do stay warm. WM sells those heat packs...will that work when you're working Don?
Cathy, thank you very much for the 'fiber-glass' warning. Mine are supposed to come in on the 5th. Will be sure to use gloves.
Y'all have a good day now!

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Jaye, you always make me feel so cheery. Good mornin' to you. Lots of work goin' on here today. As you say mid 60's, no wind. Finally. Yard crew coming with a special soil mixed just for Dallas, included green sand and lava sand. The raised bed is just waiting.
Another brand new bed on the south side of the house to accomodate all the special iris that Mitch has gifted to me. Little bit of housework and then.....yay! Outside for the whole day!

Christi

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Morning Miss Jaye, our sweet thang!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Woaaa...somebody's garden will look like a botanical gardens this year! Christi, lucky you!! I will concentrate on increasing my iris collection next year.
This year, they'll be dahlias, daylilies, heychiums, brugs and hopefully to be potting up lotsa plumies! I know...how could I restrict myself on just these when I am a Plantaholic!! Whaddayathink Princess Tammy?
Yes, I should be outside..and I will be outside, but not for my favourite activity! Will be doing our obligatory rounds of hospital visits. A cousin and an aunt both had open heart surgeries on the same day. PTL they are having the best post-op care.
Play safe....cya'll this evening. BTW, Thai food for lunch!!

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

LOL Jaye, I think it is a great idea! Are you gonna get in on the plummie CO OP if it gets off the ground?
Hope all your family gets well very soon! 'smiley face goes here!'

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Good idea Jaye!!!
But they should have the other door fixed by Monday, and I won't be so cold, you would think all the heat from welding I'd be warm, but the cement,is so cold, and having steel toes and steel shin cover the boots stay cold, until a electric shock hits my feet then they warm up a little, just shows there a reason for every thing in life, good and bad!!!LOL

Cathy your hubby sure had a good idea with the dimmer switch!!!You can control the heat amount with it!!!

Christi,Lava sand???
What makes it different?

South Venice, FL(Zone 9b)

Thanks Tman, passed the compliment on to DH, Rj gave him the inspiration- when I told him about Rj's super timer, he remembered the dimmer switch in his stockpile of stuff. The little thermometer laying on the mat works perfectly. I do unplug when it's sleepytime or if I leave the house though, can't be too careful!

Electro-shock steel toe and shin therapy- WOW, that's fierce!

Jaye, have fun with your heat mat too!

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Welcome, your hubby has a inventive mind!!!!
Of course from you guidance and inspiration!!!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Evening Sweet Ones! Boy has this day been a long one! I'd rather visit relatives at their homes, but seems these days the hospitals and more often, funeral homes!
Tammy, yes, of course, sure, why not to the plumies!!!! This is a self confessed Plantaholic remember? I might be in for more than 5 of each colour!!! Heavens help me!!
Cathy, Kel wants to know how your brilliant hubby hook the dimmer switch to the pads. He likes the idea of constant low heat.
Don, could it be lava sand is highly fertile?

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Correction.....got to 'google' it and found this:
The sand-sized and smaller waste material left from lava gravel is an excellent, highly paramagnetic soil-amendment material, It can be used in potting soils and bed preparation for all landscaping and food crops. Use once a year as a mineral supplement. Can also be used to top dress new sod installations. It increases the water-holding capacity of the soil and increases the paramagnetism.
Okay, definition to paragmagnetism: A mild attraction to a magnetic field.
Any geologist in the house?

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Jaye, be careful on those confessions now ya hear! LOL

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

He he he he he!!!
Making a joyful noise Tammy!!

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

LOL Make lots so we can hear it here in Missouri! HA HA HA

Pittsburg, MO(Zone 6b)

With the two of them how can a girl go wrong with her yard.

I can't wait to see what I can put in these neglected flower beds. I should have dug up all the plants I had at the other house and brought with me.

We are in an are where Red Bud trees and Dogwoods grow wild and there is not a single one on this property. They've cut out everything. I don't want to mow this much.

Lava sand whoda thunk it.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Woods surround our property. Besides your usual pine trees, plenty of magnolias, Carolina jessamine trailing up the pine trees, maples, dogwood trees and even a couple anona trees! So many native trees, and here I am still pining for hard to grow non-natives that always had to be coaxed, cajoled and pampered into growing.
I must be sick!

Pittsburg, MO(Zone 6b)

I miss the spring colors and have the perfect area down by the road for them, by an old fashioned iron gate. I need to find some and transplant them there. I want more pine trees in the field too. Their needles are the best mulch for gardens.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

No, Jaye. Seems to be the nature of the beast. What is easy just won't do. Has to be something that we have to work and work at to get it to even live much less thrive. Today has been glorious. Weather is great and is supposed to be more so for the next few days. Didn't have near enough soil and will be having a dump truck come next week with 6 cu. yds. Nearly worked the socks off the crew today. They don't mind because I am right there beside them working equally as hard. Most places they work is the typical "mow and blow". Not here.
Always something new afoot and today was not exception. Really tired tonight but it a good kind of tired. Will do my personal piddling stuff tomorrow. Life is soooo good. Wish you could all be here with me.

Christi
