Hello,
I have a peace lily. It is always green, but never flowers. It is really bright in the morning, but dark in the afternoon and evening. I water it when the soil starts to feel dry. I feed in often in the summer. Is there anything wrong that I am doing?
Peace lily not blossoming
Sasha: You might want to try a plant food/fertilizer with a higher middle number. I have used orchid fertilizer 11-35-15 on my peace lily at times and it works ... maybe your plant just needs a little help with some bloom booster fertilizer.
Peace Lily cannot take direct sunlight and will do very well in low light situations.
Here's a link to information in our Plant Files for different Peace Lily's. Some are very large plants and one is a petite plant. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/adv_search.php?searcher%5Bcommon%5D=&searcher%5Bfamily%5D=&searcher%5Bgenus%5D=spathaphyllum&searcher%5Bspecies%5D=&searcher%5Bcultivar%5D=&searcher%5Bhybridizer%5D=&search_prefs%5Bblank_cultivar%5D=&search_prefs%5Bsort_by%5D=rating&images_prefs=both&Search=Search&searcher[genus]=Spathiphyllum
Hello,
I have a fertilizer that is meant to encourage blossoming. It says on the back to fertilize every week. I didn't do that because i am scared of over-fertilizing it. Should I listen to the instructions, or will it just cause harm to my peace lily?
Mix it up 1/4 to half strength and feed every other watering.
You need to keep in mind that your peace Lily is probebly into the winter rest time, dont know how long you have had your lovely plant, but if you got it quite recently and was in flower, it may well have flowered enough for this season, these plants flower best when the pot is just about full of plant material, in the winter, dont over water it, just enough to stop the compost drying out, stick your finger into the compost and if it feels dry, give some water, if wet, then dont water till the soil feels drier, keep away from strong sunlight like on a window where the foliage will turn grey/brown due to scorch, they like more dapple shade than really hot sun, you should lightly spray the foliage every few days to keep a more humid atmosphere as they like this better than a dry heat from too much central heating inside the house. You start to feed the plant early spring when it starts to send up new shoots and leaves, the flowers, called spathes look just like the leaves when they first start to grow, then they open up showing the real colour of flowers, usually white. good luck. hope this helps a bit, try not to worry about no flowers right now, they will come in spring time. WeeNel.
Good advice thus far! I thought I'd just add a bit of personal experience. Both of my peace lillies just finished blooming (one regular, one variagated). I had one of the plants for quite some time and it rarely bloomed. I found that the following things were most likely the culprit.
1. The plant isn't at 100%... i.e. the fertilizer covered above, or periods where it became too dry and began to droop (yeah, I can be a bit complacent when it comes to watering).
2. (And seemingly the biggest factor) Too much light. I was surprised to find how little light these beauties really need.
They are by far one of the easiest plants to care for, and sometimes I over-complicate it by trying to take super good care of them! lol But WeeNel covered it nicely. Water when dry, don't when wet. :)
