I am thinking about growing a pepino dulce but I need some questions to be cleared up. First of all, on the online instruction booklet where I am thinking about buying it from (solana seeds), it says that you will need to plant it in the ground in june but take it back inside by september. Since this seed company is based in Quebec, it is possible that the writer based it on colder conditions. Now, In april the weather is very warm in Northern VA, and even that ignored, I here that the pepino dulce originated in the andes mountains, where some considererable amount of cold is. The problem is, I don't like plants in the house, so what should I do?
Pepino Dulce
I have not the faintest idea. It is considered a tropical fruit and is a tender perennial only tolerating temps slightly below freezing. Whether it can be grown as an annual seems to be an unanswered question. It is grown in California.
Can you make a cold frame around it for winter? That would prevent having to move it indoors. I don't know what your coldest temp is or what pepino dulce will withstand but it is a possible answer!?!
