When do I apply pre-emergent weed control to my flower beds in San Antonio?
Weed control
Your winters are pretty warm, I would guess the weeds are probably starting to think about germinating, so it might not hurt to apply it sometime soon, and then repeat about every 6 weeks (or more often if it rains a lot) throughout the spring to get the ones that are a little later to germinate.
That's what I was thinking. I've never used a product like this before. Will it damage the plants I already have in the beds? - I have lantana, skull cap, salvia and some ornamental grasses. I used to just pull weeds, but the old back can't handle that anymore.
No, it only affects seeds in the soil. So if you have flowers you were hoping would reseed, it'll prevent those seeds from sprouting along with the weeds, but it won't affect the plants that are already grown. You will probably have some pulling to do still--pre-emergent herbicides only deal with seeds that have dropped in the garden, but some weeds have perennial roots and it won't have any impact on those.
Thanks ecrane3!! Just what I needed to know
