i purchased potted king authors last week and the bloom is already spent. can i cut them to get them to bloom again. i am in zone 8 (fl panhandle) but this pot is kept indoors.
can i force potted daffodils to bloom twice?
I could be wrong, but I don't think they'll rebloom. Many plants you can deadhead and they'll keep blooming, but bulbs work a little differently than other plants, most of them will only bloom once. I don't grow them though so I could be wrong!
in my zone, daffodils are perennial bulbs. They bloom in the early spring, then whither and go dormant over the summer. The flower for the next spring is forming in the bulb over the summer/fall. Dormant bulbs are planted in the fall.
I think you would have to allow the pot of daffs to have a 'summer' and then cold for a few months. (think cold as in fridge)
It would be interesting to see if you could get them to rebloom.
drivenbonkers has a point, it's possible that you might get them to bloom again a little sooner than they would otherwise, but you have to let them go through their cycle first where the leaves die back. Then once that happens if you chill them and make them think it's winter and then bring them out in the warm again to make them think it's spring, you may force them into bloom a bit sooner than they normally would. But assuming you wanted them to give you more blooms say in the next month or two, then I don't think you'll have much luck.
