Mike, do you live on any hilly terrain?
Scattelogical ramblings and desultory humor - SB Edition
Sue: No. It's totally flat where I am. There are hills about a mile from me, and the ocean is down a gradual grade. I would say the topography here "undulates", but it's considered "flat". I'm basicaslly in a "bay" here.
JasperDale, My husband went to a big rowing regatta in Long Beach a few years back. He was amazed at the place and the oil history and the port.
gloria125, nice relative. Happy birthday. Patti
The fellow above is Albert, quite a famous silver back gorilla at the San Diego zoo in the 1960s. You will hear more about him when my article on camellias is published.
He's very handsome Gloria! I look forward to the article too.
Nancy and Celeste, thanks for the Naughty seeds explanation. Makes sense that they'd remove it. I'm not a teenager, and I'm interested. Must be torture for the teens.
JD stay safe and dry!! Good luck to the Texans! Hope nothing precious gets damaged.
I love that gorilla pic Gloria! Looks just like my DH! I didn't know you knew him too. I can't wait for your article on him.
I asked the San Diego Zoo for permission to use a gorilla picture and they sent me a picture of the real Albert who was at the zoo when I was in San Diego back in the 60s. We had classes where the students had to study a primate and Albert was a favorite.
I did spend many days gazing into Albert's face and he gazing into mine. It was a special relationship.
I like that story Gloria. Animals are important people. I visited the gorillas at the San Diego zoo in '05. I've got a few pictures, if you still need.
Harper, I didn't know animals were people? I thought animals were animals, and people were people!
PrimroseSue:
That might be a perspective made up by people. Kind of people-centric.
Don't tell Wallingford he isn't a people!
I know, sometimes my cats, too!
AYC : And just HOW IS Mr. Wallingford these days? ( I still think that's the best cat name I've ever heard.)
As for Albert...he difinitely looks like a force to be reckoned with !
Speaking of FORCE JD. One of the most vivid memories I have of Albert was when our class was invited to the set-up the experimental psychologists had in the back of the primate cages.
We were shown some photographs of some IQ tests that were done on Albert. One photo was of Albert's fist whamming the plexiglas of the experimental pen where he was being tested. There was the fist, the force lines, and Albert's carpal papilae (wrist hairs) standing on end.
It seems he didn't respond to the test correctly and so was not given the banana he expected. So ..... WHAMMO!
Sue, people are animals too!
JD, I agree! I love the name Wallingford for Yankee's cat. One day I'm going to meet Wallingford. I almost feel like I should dress up for the occasion.
Harper, I have to agree with you there!
I do that when I don't get my banana too. You go Albert!
I'm glad I had one with my Corn Flakes this morning!
Wallingford is napping at the moment. OK well most moments he is napping. I, on the other hand have moved the computer out of my office and set it up in the livingroom while I work on refurbishing the office. Two corners of the room have the tape lifting off the wall - so I may have to call in a professional. This weekend I want to get all the molding off, all the tack strip out and strip the layers of paint off the baseboard heaters. I think I have finally chosen a color for the room - the worst part of the whole process. Maybe I will scrub the ceiling and paint it tomorrow. Hmmm.
Gee, Memory, is tape all you use to keep the walls from falling down? Don't hire a professional Taper - just get a roll of duct tape! LOL.
AYC...I do hope you consult Wallingford as to the color scheme you choose. I mean, after all. WHOSE house IS IT, anyway ? LOL
Sofonisba...I totally agree with you. I'm sure there is a sense of decorum that has to be adhered to when being granted an audience with such a distinguished feline !
Some time ago, I saw a book at a garage sale that was all about how to dress and act appropriately around snooty cats. It was hilarious. I should have bought it, or at least remembered the title so I could find it now. It was written by someone with a very "Erma Bombeck-esque" style.
What color?
Why do women think TAPE, in all it's various forms, is the fix-all for everything?
OK...I'll answer that: Probably for the same reason that men who can't cook (like myself) consider BBQ sauce to be the perfect topping for everything
Uh. Uh. Sounds like a "categorical fallacy" when you say,
QUOTE: Why do women think . . . . XYZ?
Once again JD has entered the "Estrogen Wars"!!!
Well, I mean, "women" do this, but "J.D. i.e. Man does barbecue sauce. That sounds like war of the sexes to me.
Oh for goodness sakes, I'm MIA for part of a day and you all declare the war of the sexes.
Face it, JD, you can't win this one.
Didn't mean to scare him away. Seems like he's kinda cute.
He is but growing up with three older sisters and three younger sisters left scars.
The color I picked is called Lion. Drywall is taped at the seams and apparently in the corners. The tape doesn't hold it together - it covers the seams to make the wall smooth. I but one of those environmentally friendly strippers on part of the baseboard and it is not odorless as the literature says! Guess I won;t be working in there any more today.
You but one of those environmentally friendly strippers?
How many of you are there?
i know i am not the only one eager to hear more about this!
; )
My sister sent me an e-mail one day saying she spent the day flashing and stripping.
She drives the warning flashing truck for her DH's crane while in transport, and after that came home and stripped the floor. Yep, she's the flasher/stripper in our family.
I think the fumes that really aren't there are effecting my spelling!
Yankee Cat. Did you use mud with the drywall tape?
she wrestled with it...
(sorry, the boys aren't around, someone has to fill in!)
I haven't touched it yet. I want to get a professional to look at it.
Hi all,
Just popping in to say hi. My parents are over so I'm enjoying time with them.
How's your dad's shoulder? Say hi for all of us.
Doing very well, thanks. He finishes therapy this week. I will say hi. See you all tomorrow!
