Help with planting around house

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

Last year I went out like the smart person I am HA) and tilled up beds all around the house. They are pretty wide so I could plant several things. In one part I put Hosta, then Caladiums and then climbing roses on the lattice behind.
I know that sounds ordinary, but what are you gonna do when you know nothing.

Can ya'll help me . I don't want it to look like the hedges we used to plant.
I have some azaleas in a corner which looks good.

Can you post a picture of the area? Also some info about amt of sun/shade would be helpful, and are all the beds the same or are some more sunny than others, etc.

I will take some pictures and post them. Got to get new batteries for my camera.
All of them get more shade than sun. None of them get sun all day. One only gets a little sun in the morning. One gets afternoon sun. Elephant ears and Hydrangeas grow well in that one.

When I was ready to do my flowerbeds, I ran searches for "shade loving," "sun loving," etc., plants. It's nice to find not only pictures but information on plant size, needs, bloom season, etc. I was able to get plants that thrive in my climate, attract birds and butterflies, are perennials, and bloom for long periods of time. I also found info on various shrubs that are doing very well and look good as a backdrop to all my flowers. A picture would still be nice and I'm sure everyone will have some wonderful ideas to share with you.

I'm going to borrow my daughter's digital. Mine got wet and that was the end of that. Got to get another, but will get pictures and don't laugh
