Can anybody help me identify this plant?

Bethel, MN

I've acquired some plants and I don't know what kind two of them are. They were grouped together with three other plants, and then placed in a decorative basket to be one lovely grouping. However, I think they need to be repotted.

Thank you for any advice or thoughts!

It is a variety of Calathea

Thank you, Mam3--
I did some more searching last night to see that this is also known as a "Prayer Plant" and am so tickled by it.

I aquired it from my aunts funeral (which seems kind of gross... but now I have chills thinking of it).

I found that a Prayer Plant raises it's leaves up at nighttime, hence the name. After I read that, I went back and looked at my plant and couldn't believe it! It's leaves were up way more than they had been earlier. When I took that first picture, I had to physically hold up that one leaf so that you guys could see it was purple underneath. When I went out to it last night after reading about the "Prayer Plant", I was shocked to see it standing up high enough where you could see the purple on it's own.

Here's a pic of it last night.

Thanks again for your identification of my plant. :)

It is called Medallion. I have one as well and I LOVE IT!

I repotted mine in a much larger pot and it is just going to town.

I've never heard Calathea called prayer plant...Maranta is the one that is usually called prayer plant and that's not what yours is. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/54735/ Maranta's leaves fold up at night, that's how it got the name.

I definitely agree with all three...this is definitely a calathea and not a prayer plant. And I agree with mistygardener that it does look like the cultivar 'Medallion' (which is still a calathea). I used to have calathea 'Medallion,' too, but there are tons of cultivars and it's hard to say for sure this one is Medallion without a tag.

I also have a prayer plant and while they do look similar, it's not the same thing. This is a calathea.

Yes, I agree with the calathea as well, was just too lazy to type it out before! :) I was lucky to have a tag come with mine, which is rare at Lowe's it seems!

I googled Calathea and that is where I found out about it being considered a "Prayer Plant".....

Here is a link that shows the same plant:

or

There must be more than one Prayer Plant species?

The first link is labelled incorrectly. The second link doesn't show a picture of your plant?

Bethel, MN

Oops... let me try it again! :)

The first link is www.plantsforkids.com/prayerplant.html

I hope that works! I'll write it out with spaces, too... just to be safe:
www dot plantsforkids dot com backslash prayerplant dot html
It really looks like the plant I have. I looked up the Maranta and it doesn't look quite the same on top.

I wonder if I'm looking at the wrong one??

No, the link for the website works. It's just that the people who wrote that website have mislabeled the common name for the plant. Here is a prayer plant: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/29460/

Oh jeez! I gotchya! I was misunderstanding what you were saying!

Thank you so much! Wouldn't you know-- the one site that I find the plant on is wrong! Story of my life, hehe!

Thanks for your help and patience!
