CLOSED: Second Chance Wishlist #6 !!
Thanks, Bluespiral... Your box wrapped in a premade box is a good idea, but leave the postage loose, will you? I don't want to give the PO one extra cent if I don't have to, and sometimes I shuffle the stamps around to get it exact. I also sometimes keep the stamps and go to the machine that weighs and spits out metered stickers (charging it to my credit card). I'll try to send back postage to the people who over send, but taking open envies and boxes to the PO in the car is a nightmare...what if I need to slam on the brakes and they all tip over???? I will definitely send extra back if you way over send and it's into dollar bills as opposed to quarters. As an aside, Blue, are you actually getting enough seeds for a return box? I didn't notice you requesting that many.
James, I'd feel a lot better about you sending your seeds if I were sure you read your dmail from me first. Go ahead and answer the dmails, even if it's only to say, "Roger, that!"
This next part might sound mean and snotty, but I don't mean it to.....Starlight might be willing to send seeds after the swap is over, but I am not. If I miss something you wanted, well, that's a real bummer. I need to get this over because 4 rooms in my house have been over taken by seeds and there aren't that many rooms leftover! So, I guess if you are really concerned about me filling your requests (Me personally, not as your swap hostess) You'd better dmail me with the list I promised you and a subject line that says something like this: SUZY, YOU PROMISED ME THESE! Or put it on your letter, either way. Naturally, I think I got everybody, and I have gone through list after list after list to double check, but once the swap is over, I'm sowing seeds, and if the weather improves, cleaning up winter debris from the garden. (ask KD and Terese how many lists they've collected for me, plus ones I've gotten in dmail!) I have no plans to mail anything for a good long while.
Bluespiral, I guess that leads into your question...about the Feb 1 deadline, and yes, it's firm. Very firm. (Last week at this time, it might have been more flexible, but as these come in, I realize how much room it all takes! LOL!)
All, My plan is to make one more piggie list of seeds that come in for the general swap, sometime next weekend (like the 25th-26th). First choice goes to people who sent in more than they requested, then I'll open it up to everybody. These are almost always going to be seeds that have already been listed, that everybody has seen countless times before, but maybe listed another way will make them look more attractive. LOL!
Then I need a week to tweak, which brings me to Feb 1. Which is also the deadline, so I will be out on the street at the mailbox waiting for the mail that day.
Then finding the exact way to mail them. I can use all the bubble envies at over 3/4 inch if the seeds will fit; but they go at parcel rates, so no one on the cusp of 100 packs has to worry about a box. JUST THE POSTAGE $ for a PACKAGE/BOX. 13 oz and 3/4 inch thick is the cut off for large envelope, and it correlates to about 100 packs on the weight, but the baggies are adding a lot of bulk, so the thickness on all these will be over 3/4 inch. If there isn't enough postage, we can take the packs out of the baggies, but if you are keeping tabs on who sent what, it will be a nightmare for you to check them all off your lists.
I can send thicker bubble envies, but they cannot be football shaped, otherwise it is package rated PLUS odd shape rate.
On the weight, so much depends on how the packs are made -- if they are in paper or plastic, for example. Paper weighs more and takes up more room. Above either of those thresholds (3/4 Inch thickness or 13 oz in weight ) gets you socked with the package postage rates.
If anybody is in a rush, then priority mail is the answer, so I need to know that ON YOUR LETTER. Don't just send me extra postage and expect me to know, because I won't know whether you'd like your money back or your seeds faster unless you tell me.
(The international players are different, and each is handled differently, so the above is not for you.)
That's the end of the rant, and I didn't mean it to sound bad, or negative, truly I am having fun, Mr. Clean is okay with it, and it's not your fault that I need everything spread out. I really can't think of a better way to spend the dreary month of January, and a cheaper way to spend the month of January than this...cheap because I look at the mountian of seed catalogs and just laugh instead of circling and circling and circling seeds I need, must have!
**smooch, smooch***
Suzy
For the record Suzy, in any swap of yours I am ever in, if I send too much postage, I don't want any back. Ever. I figure it all evens out. Now if I don't send enough, that's a different story! I want to know. ;-)
Same here, Suzy - anything extra from me - keep, if I am short, let me know :-)
Suzy, ditto to Cat & Seandor - always keep any extra postage from me & let me know if I fall short.
Sorry about giving impression I wasn't sending labels & postage loose inside. I'll tuck a bubble envie inside the box coming to you - I did most of my oinking via dmail, so I now have about 49 pkts that I know of that are coming to me.
Alrighty about the due date - we are all "all ears" about anything we can do to make things easier for you - there's gotta be a Guinness record somewhere about seed swapping that you've broken through here
Same here for me, would hate to have to come up their and dump chaff all over your floors and tables if ya sent it back. : )
ditto here on the postage...do NOT send any back. just let me know if I owe you.
lol Starlight - we've enough chaff betwixt us all to convert Suzy's abode into quite a massive compost pile :)
Suzy, can my seeds have a room of their own, at your house? They are really special seeds.
LOL ; )
Suzy, Thanks for "telling it to us straight". I'd rather see it laid out clean and clear.
Please keep any extra postage if I send more than I need-and let me know ASAP if I don't send enough!
I'm not going to be able to send my seeds out until late next week. I'm hoping to have a few new things to add in before I send, but not ready to list them now. Is there any way you could hold off the last "piggie" list until Monday or so?
LOL! I'm sure I won't keep it straight and there will be emergency dmails flying back and forth,,,meanwhile, Susy, I can do 2 last piggie lists, so not a problem. And I'm sure your purchased seeds will be there in plenty of time, so not to worry about that, either.
Here are some more freshly packed seeds from WZs list:
Red annual corn poppy aka the Flander's poppy. Last year these were in bloom here for RW&B on July 4th.
Peony poppy - very big full doubles in reds, pinks purples and possibly a white or two.
Dwarf Marigold 'Lemon Drop' (LeBug, You already got one)
Scotch Marigold (ferny marigold) 'Tangerine Gem'. This is a small ferny marigold with a lax habit suitable for containers. PamSue, You have this one.
Campanula cochlearifolia 5" tall. A lot of people requested these but I have 3 packs left
Campanula carpatica - fairly big, blue flowers on a little plant 9" tall
Mimulus Monkey Flower needs some relief from full sun, if not just part shade. I have the yellow w/ red blotch left. Do not let this dry out...it needs to be watered in the summer. (Lala_Jane, you got this already.)
Digitalis lutea Straw Foxglove 24-39" upright, and the stalks sort of curve.
Alaskan Roseroot Rhodiola rosea 3-6" tall Rock Garden Full sun. This is another sedum with purple-brown blooms. That doesn't sound too attractive, but they look pretty in the picture. More like amber-purple blooms.
Aquilegia vulgaris var floro pleno Pleated Columbine Mix. The purple variety of this was the #1 requested iten from WZ's list. I had to substitute this mixed version of the same plant for most of the requests, but I do have 6 packs leftover.
Nootka Rose Rosa nutkana 36-72" tall, full sun. Single pink Rose; gorws wild fro Alaska south to California.
Carex mertensii Merton's Sedge -- a grass-like plant 24-36". Can take a lot of moisture, but doesn't have to have it.
Linaria maraccana Fairy Lights Mixed...12" tall Mixed colors pink, yellow, purple in very early spring. Very cold tolerant.
Brachycombe iberidifolia Swan River Daisy 12-18" . Tumbles down (has a lax habit) and is well-suited for containers. Mix of Blue and white with possibly some pink. Foliage is fernlike.
Still have:
Saxifrage Rock Garden Mix
Prunella vulgaris - self heal (can take part shade)
Sedum 'Autumn Joy'
Campanula trachelium Nettle Leaved Bellflower 24-36" Has long spikes of tubular blue flowers. The color range is white to blue. The leaves are pretty so if you think it's going to be weedy looking, I don't think so.
Post here,
Suzy

Same here on postage, Suzy! Great minds think alike, eh?!
Hi Suzy, Oh, good news! Thanks for the reassurance!
I had mimulus on the end of my second WZ list, and I'd also like a small amount of the saxifage if you haven't put any of either of these aside for me already? I'd also like one of the short marigolds as well-again, if you haven't already put any of this aside for me?
Thanks again,
Susy
Hey Suzy-were you saying you have three leftover of this after all the asking: Campanula cochlearifolia, if so I would love some and alsoBrachycombe iberidifolia Swan River Daisy, mimulus ,straw digitalis lutea and Alaskan Roseroot Rhodiola. Do you want these requests posted or dmailed? Let me know if this is too much to request.
And here are some I have yet to pack, but I need to get going on this a little faster :) The photo with this post is Gilia capitata, in the middle behind the fringed Bleeding Heart. You can see how early in the season it is by what is growing around it.. this is June 3.
Gilia capitata Blue Thimble Flower. 18" Reseeding annual (I hope so -- I got some of these form WZ last year and they bloomed very early, when there wasn't much else out.)
Adenophora potaninii Bush Ladybells sun to part shade Blue flowers
Campanula takesimana 'Elizabeth' 18-24" Pendulous pink flowers -- sort of a dark pink or cherry. These are sold at the gardencenters, and yet they can be a little invasive.
Nicandra physaloides Shoofly Plant 12=15" These usually have a light blue flower, but these seeds are for *white* flowers. They are reseeding annuals, which I consider different than invasive because all you have to do is pick the flowers one year and they are gone.
Mimulus minima Small Yellow Mimulus NEVER ALLOW TO DRY OUT. This might be hard for a lot of us to grow because of the high moisture needs.
Nemesia strumosa Yellow Nemesia 12-18" Annual. Also needs consistently moist soil.
Chrysanthemum paludosum Annual White Daisy Mum....This looks like a little white daisy about 12-18" that has been pinched and pinched until it looks just like a little summer-blooming cushion mum.
Marigold 'Naughty Marietta' This is a prety famous marigold -- very good "doer". Ansonfan has these on his list, too, but I wanted to say that if you need a bunch of marigolds, this would be an excellent one to get.
Once again,
Post here at the trough.
Suzy

Susy, which Marigold? You say: "short marigolds " I have Lemon Drops and Tangerine Gem, and also I have Naughty Marietta, although you wouldn't have seen that until after you posted.
Flowerhead, no, it's not too much, I have multiple packs of these. If it gets into a fight, I'll make a real effort to be a fair and impartial referee. LOL!
I got all the packs for both of you, except I chose Lemon Drops for you Susy, so if that wasn't right, just post, and I'll switch them out..
Suzy
I would like to try the red mimulus - but I had it on my WZ wishlist so should I still be asking?
Meredith, It doesn't hurt, although I think youasked for Red & white, not red & yellow. Do you want both? Either/ or?
Suzy
Oh- I think I would rather have the red and white Thank You.
OK Suzy-I figured you would let me know if enough is enough. I really do want to stop (not really), but you make it so hard with your teasing little posts full of pretty little flowers. Well, I will say please (and thank you, too)
Gilia capitata Blue Thimble Flower,
Chrysanthemum paludosum Annual White Daisy Mum
Mimulus minima Small Yellow Mimulus
Meredith-what are you still doing up? It's late here in NH!
I would love some of the following if it's up for the taking:
Linaria maraccana Fairy Lights Mixed...12" tall Mixed colors pink, yellow, purple in very early spring. Very cold tolerant.
Brachycombe iberidifolia Swan River Daisy 12-18" . Tumbles down (has a lax habit) and is well-suited for containers. Mix of Blue and white with possibly some pink. Foliage is fernlike.
French Marigold Tagetes patula 'Naughty Marietta'
Thanks, Rachel
Well speaking of late, I'm off to bed! Night night!!!!!
Suzy may I add the Aquilegia vulgaris var floro pleno Pleated Columbine Mix and the Chrysanthemum paludosum Annual White Daisy Mum to my collection?
Thank you,
Charlene
Hi Suzy, I couldn't remember which I'd asked for. Lemon drops is great, thank you.
Okay -- Flowerhead, got it. The small yellow mimulus are from planters near the Seward, Alaska city toilets...just in case you ever need to know LOL!
Suzy
Rachel & Charlene, I have yours pulled, too.
Peeps, if you see the list inthe morning, I'm sure the seeds will stil be here. I have multiple packs of all of them.
Suzy
Flowerhead - No work for me tomorrow, and this is the only time I have any quiet (kids are asleep) but I am off to bed now. Goodnight Everyone.
Suzy, Please forgive this late night request, I would love above mentioned campanulas, if they're not already in my pile. Thank you so much. I'd love to try mimulus, too - any color
Hi Suzy,
Can I have Mimulus minima Small Yellow Mimulus. Keeping them moist will not be a problem for me!
Ok folks,
I think I got this right and ready to go out wed morning, so if ya need a change ya better tell me by tuesday night. This what is in your envies. Crossign my fingers I got it right and my toes too if it will help

Suzy, weird...I posted a few minutes ago and now it's gone. so if it shows up twice it's not my fault LOL. I have lost my mind and would like to request:
Campanula carpatica - fairly big, blue flowers on a little plant 9" tall
Linaria maraccana Fairy Lights Mixed
Marigold 'Naughty Marietta'
Suzy If still available I would like to try:
Campanula cochlearifolia 5" tall. A lot of people requested these but I have 3 packs left
Mimulus Monkey Flower
Brachycombe iberidifolia Swan River Daisy 12-18"
Starlight - Thanks so much for the list! I am dmailing you as I don't think I can use all the lisianthus or the morning glory. Thank you. KD
Well - if there are any of these remaining . . . .
Dwarf Marigold 'Lemon Drop' (LeBug, You already got one)
Aquilegia vulgaris var floro pleno Pleated Columbine Mix
rachycombe iberidifolia Swan River Daisy 12-18"
Saxifrage Rock Garden Mix
Campanula takesimana 'Elizabeth' 18-24"
Thanks!
Does anyone want any Begonia evansii from my 2006 garden? http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/722/
If so, could you dmail me with the subject line saying "2nd Chance Swap Begonia"? This one is more vigorous than you might think and spreads and self-sows in shade when happy.
Oh goody , I'm going to plant those lemon drop marigolds in between some yarrow to put around one of my borders, thanks! Trying to figure out a way to 'spruce' it up a bit lol
Starlight, You have no idea how happy I am to get those purple tansy, those are soo pretty! I grew some last year and when I put them in the ground they got trampled by the neighborhood kids and I lost them but did get to see a bloom and they were wonderful, I hope they will reseed for me in the future but I'll save seeds just in case for sure! The blooms are almost like the ones on my blue mist shrub and I love that one too! Thank you!!!
Suzy, I would love to have some:
Nemesia strumosa Yellow Nemesia 12-18" Annual. Also needs consistently moist soil.
I just have so very few little places to put these but I love nemessias and haven't gotten any this year so far and they are yellow :)
maybe all of you are already aware of this site, but just in case, I'll post the link. Hudson's seeds...has a lot of good info about germination and how long it takes, what seeds are hard to germinate, which ones need cold stratification, etc
oh, yeah..they also sell seeds, but it's not like a regular commercial site

got it bookmarked.... thanks jan.
