My fingers are crossed! FLW was eccentric in that regard... he built what suited him... even tall clients had trouble getting him to design ceilings & doorways high enough that they wouldn't hit their heads... as long as he could walk through unimpeded, he figured the design was just fine! Sweet house. :-)
I know we're digressing... but I figure we'll need a continuation thread soon anyway.
Think Spring! Seed Swaps and more for Feb 23 Tea Party
Jen, This is the year that I dipped my toes in the big seed trading pool. I wasn't ready to jump right out there into the Round Robins but I did collect Morning glory seeds and traded some of them. It turns out that I had a rather rare MG that several people wanted. I also collected a few other seeds that I will be bringing to the swap. I worry that my seeds may not be suitable for trading, but it is a learning process and this is a very good group.
And I again miss seeing you Holly. I so enjoyed meeting you at Harts last year. If I have to swim, I will be at the Spring/Summer Plant Swap. I did participate in some of the Round Robin's last year and had a blast. I received some cute little gifts and also had fun shopping for gifts to send to others.
I will not be attending the Tea Party, but have a lot of packets of seed. If people will begin posting the things they are looking for, I will go through my stash and try to get them mailed to Jill's before the party day. I will be there in spirit. I am finding myself growing very fond of you folks and hate that I have to miss some of the get togethers.
I am sure that a fun day will be had by all.
Ruby
Anybody have 'German Queen' tomato seeds? I failed to save tomato seeds last year... and my packet is empty! I think I also sowed the last of my 'Black Cherry' and 'Sun Gold' Cherry seeds... I only need 3 or 5 seeds, enough to get a plant or two... I've got lots of tomatoes to swap in return! I know somebody on the tomato forum will have them, and I may even find them in the Round Robin, but I figured I'd ask! :-)
One thing I can never have enough of is Dianthus, any of the shorter perennial varieties... they're easy to winter sow and make nice fillers and borders for beds.
I went through a pack of seed baggies yesterday, so I'm off to a good start... :-)
I will have some black pear. I am not sure how may seeds but I could share some of those.. Not what you wanted but maybe okay..
BTW: I have bulbs peeping through and buds starting to pop out... :)
Jill,
I have exactly 6 seeds of Sun Gold. This tiny packet was a giveaway at the Senior Expo last year by someone. I want to grow at lease one or two of them this year, but as you well know, I can ONLY have about 4 or 5 tomatoes max in the bed by the shed. It is the only one I have that gets decent light and has no Maple tree roots to smother everything.
I will grow, for sure, a couple of "Mortgage Lifters"(Estlers). Someone sent me some seeds last year. I shared some of them with Herbie and he was all excited. I want to see what all this hype is about. Only have a few seeds of that one too.
Jill, I took quite a few seeds (myself) from the "Black Cherokee" tomatoes that I got from you. They were very tasty! Ugly though....Can share a few of these if anyone is interested.
I also have a partial packet left of the small yellow pear tomatoes. Tried growing them twice in this huge pot, but nothing came of them. Good soil! Good sun! Maybe it was the heat last Summer and the pot being above ground?????
Does anyone want any seeds from my "haves" list? Please let me know.....I don't want to bring the WHOLE box!
Gita
Gita, I'll swap you any other tomato seed you'd like for a couple of those Sun Gold seeds! It'd save me ordering a packet from TGS, at least until next year, LOL (they're hybrids). If other people want 'Sun Gold' too, LMK and I'll order a pack from TGS that we can split. Jenn, thanks for the offer on the Black Pear... they sound interesting, but I'm really "stuck" on the flavor of the Black Cherry.
Awwww, Gita, not going to bring your whole seed box? LOL I think I'd better set up a separate area for swapping seeds anyway, because it could get pretty crazy!
Do y'all think we should put aside a particular time to concentrate on swapping seeds? It's not that we can't do swaps at other times, but saying the main swap time is from, oh, 2 to 3 would give us a definite time to concentrate on seeds and then we can get back to visiting and eating. ? Obviously people who don't want to do the swapping don't have to.
Jill,
Do you think the Sun Gold seeds are available wherever they sell seed packets? Like at HD? I am not working right now, but I can look next time I go there. They can't be THAT rare!
Seems I have seen this Tomato at my roadside stand nursery where I buy all kinds of stuff. Not sure! But they sell Sun Brights....
If no one else offers you any, I will bring you a couple. If you are ordering anyway--go ahead. That way it won't be like you only have TWO seeds of something.....
Gita
Gita, I've only seen Sun Gold sold via mail order. You made a good point, though... if I just want one plant, I might be able to find a seedling. I just checked the TGS site and can't find it there, so I won't place a special order somewhere else just to get it. I can happily grow 'Dr. Carolyn' for a yellow tomato this year -- not quite as sweet, but really delicious, and the seeds (OP) are in my stash. :-)
OMG I'm so dense....Gita said "???Frank Lloyd Wright?????" and I'm thinking architect???huh??? I thought he was a composer...DUH ("here's MY sign")...then it dawned on me I was thinking of Andrew Lloyd Weber...ok...so it's two totally different guys...but face it the middle names the same as is the last initial...LOL.....why am I even admitting this to everyone? ROTFLOL Cuz I'm still snorting over Jill aka Da MAR (mid Atlantic "runner") - I felt equally "guilty" when I was asking where they were located - I thought Oh no...don't even look at me "that" way...I'm packing SEED not WEED!!!
Yes, Wrightie - I get you...course don't be too proud ... remember where i work...LOL..I teasin', I swear!!!

Despite the fact that nobody complained about the thread getting slow, I figured that at about 250 posts it was getting a bit longish... So, I give you... "Son of Swap Thread" http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/808347/
Please join us at that thread to continue the pre-party festivities!
And don't forget to post on the party planning thread to let me know you're planning to attend. :-)
