Jill that would be fine.. I asked my DH to try it from his office and he cannot pull it up now either. lol
I now need to google the Polka Dot Plant and the Torenia so I can see what they look like..
Think Spring! Seed Swaps and more for Feb 23 Tea Party
Don't forget about PlantFiles!

Polka-Dot Plant
Mom doesn't get much sun on her porch, and these did really well in her railing planters. She liked the way the foliage brightened up the window boxes without relying on the plants being in bloom (these don't really have significant blooms).
Jenn, I tried the Parks website too and it couldn't be any slower than molasses sitting outside today.
Jill, you know Torenia's my favorite, and I never got to collect my seeds last year so I'd like some. I just might have a few of the the trailing Torenia we got last year. I tried to keep some going inside (no luck), but I might still have a dried seed pod.
You go right out there and get that seed pod! LOL, I did not manage to salvage even that much of mine, and my attempt at taking cuttings last summer failed utterly. But the non-trailing ones are also nice!
I'll check my window sill when I get home. It's still there because I still haven't given up on my last pathetic cutting.
Parks seems to be back up... I am looking at the $0.99 seed packs now. lol
Jill: I'll bring a whole bunch of pots of different sizes. No problem using a portion of your garage. I also agree that using your deck in February would be down right nippy!
I have a packet of Torenia seeds which I've never sown. Do they germinate better under lights with a heat mat or can I spring sow them via the wintersowing method? Pansies should germinate beautifully via wintersowing because they love the cold weather.
The only time I shop on-line at Park Seed is when they are having their sales. $0.99 for their seeds is a good deal, Jenn.
Torenia needs a long head start and warmth to germinate... if you WS, you won't see blooms until August. I did have some volunteers show up blooming at the end of summer though!
Park's is calling it a $1 seed sale, but actually they just mean the prices have been reduced by a variable amount... some by only 20 cents, others by more than half. The Hardy Sedum Mix just jumped into my cart!
Finally listed my seeds on my "haves". Had 17 different ones that I had enough of to list. I have others too-but in very small amounts and some I harvested last Summer and cannot be sure if they will germinate or not.
So--take a look and let me know if you are interested in any of them sometimes before Jill's Tea.
Gita
I for sure can share
Nicotiana Only the Lonely, and bushel gourd, and orange fantasia chard ,
I'll try to get a list posted here at least of the seeds I know I have to share (collected from my garden or from recent swaps) so folks know not to order them...
Purple Cleome, white swamp milkweed (Asclepias incarnata), lavender Gomphrenia, False Sunflower (Heliopsis helianthoides var. scabra, the one I was calling "Not Chocolate Daisy), Pretty Purple Pepper, Burgundy Gaillardia, oh gosh... I really need to sit down and go through it all!
Or before you order you can do what Jenn & Chantell just did... they told me what they wanted from Park's, and I told them what I had in my stash that they could have instead of ordering a couple of things on their list... LOL, I know, I really do have to type up a list!
Jill thank you again....
Now we have to take the trip down to Dulles... I also need to pull up my funky grass! I think the lavender would look much nicer then the grass.. Yeah something for the DH to mow!
I have some seeds listed in my haves, mostly veggies, but I'd be happy to share, just let me know what if anything you're interested in. :)
Oh! Who was that just saying she couldn't think of any seeds she could possibly need? LOL *whistling innocently* Couldn't have been me!
I'd really like a pinch of those Corsican Hellebore seeds to wintersow, please! And I'll bet Miatablu would like some, too... ;-)
Jill - I'll double check which milkweed i have - I might like to have a couple of yours if you have enough. Really trying to bring those butterflies and hummers in this year - in the back yard...
if I have enough... oh mercy, you would not believe how much seed I managed to collect... even after sending off loads to a couple of big swaps, I have plenty! I also got some pink Asclepias incarnata seed back from one of those swaps, and some Achillea 'Cerise Queen' too, so I'm excited about adding those to the flutterby garden. I can spare a pinch of those also for you... I hope you're keeping notes on what you want from me!
Oh mercy....I'll start keeping track...should it be BYOB (bring your own baggies? - p/u a box at office depot then ordered some from Mystic Stamps)
I have a box of the little snack bags I can bring.. People can place their seeds in there. Let me know and I will pull it out...

Did I hear Corsican Hellebore Jill (ears perked)? Who's got em? Hope they have a bit for me and I can find somethin' they want.
Cat has Corsican Hellebore on her "Haves" list! :-)
I'll pick up as many of the $1 packs of little zip-top bags as I can find in the Wal-Mart craft department, but they don't always have them in stock. If anybody is going there on another errand, please check for me... as many as 5 or 6 sets (100 per bag) would be welcome, and I'll reimburse. I go through them, and I know we'll go through them at the party. Slips of paper tucked inside work find as labels. I'll make up some labeled packs ahead of time for the seeds I have lots of (ones I'm offering for trade & SASBE anyway), but you'll need to DIY packing if you're just helping yourself to a pinch of this or a few seeds of that from my stash.
Mostly, I think we should try really hard to package seeds ahead of time, or it will be total mayhem. We'll end up spending all our time labeling seeds rather than visiting.
Is anybody else looking for something from Parks? We are just barely over $30, and I'm not going to pay extra shipping for one more pack of seeds, LOL, it's the principle of the thing. I'll take Nemesia back off my list or something...
Hey, Sally, am I remembering that you have Asclepias tuberosa (milkweed) in your yard, the kind with orange flowers? Jenn is looking for purple and orange, and I was going to suggest that as a combo with a purple butterfly bush for one of her beds. Maybe you have seeds? Or volunteer seedlings in spring? If not, somebody will have seeds... I can't see paying for this one... :-)
Jill,
Take one of my packs off the list, don't take yours off. Just pick one to take off.
Jenn, nonsense. I've put too many in the cart. Making myself come in under the next shipping increment is one of the few ways I have to make myself be reasonable when I start ordering! :-)
(Jenn ordered 4 packs. I don't want to admit how many I'm getting. Do I really need Hibiscus mos. 'Disco Belle Pink'? Yes I do. I almost ordered the plant last fall. Just look at this. http://www.parkseed.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/StoreCatalogDisplay?storeId=10101&catalogId=10101&langId=-1&mainPage=prod2working&ItemId=0990)
OH WOW that is pretty!
It's not purple or orange, though... LOL, I wonder if it's too late to take a dormant cutting from my 'Plum Crazy' or 'Kopper King'... 'KK' has bronze/purple accents on the foliage and pink blooms with a darker eye, and 'Plum Crazy' has huge purple blooms, http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/119521/.
It is still very pretty....
I will share... If all 10 seeds germinate and thrive, you know I will not "need" that many! Or are you saying I should add a pack of either 'Disco Belle Pink' or 'Disco Belle Mix' to the order for you? They'd make a nice short hedge. And you wouldn't need to prepare a bed right away, as they'd probably be happier growing on in gallon pots at least over the summer and even until next spring (I overwinter pots against the sheltered side of the house).
Ahhhhhh....The frenzy begins......
I went to Wall mart the other day and p/u 2 packages of those little baggies. There were 2 left. In the process of sorting all my seeds, and putting them in "ready to mail" amounts in the baggies, I went through about 140 of them. They were 97 cents here. If I go back there, I will pick up whatever they have.
Jill, thanks for the idea of putting slips of paper INSIDE the bags! So much easier that taping/gluing tags on the outside and writing info on there.
Here's what i did for the ID slips of papers...
.
I went to Word and wrote up ONE description. Then I c/p it to the next line--now I had 2! Then I c/p the two--now I had 4! Then I c/p the 4--now I had 8! Then I c/p the 8--and now I had 16--two pages full. Then I highlighted both pages and put them all in 2 columns (on one page) and printed out 2-3 copies of the page...cut them all apart and trimmed them so they will fit in those small baggies. This made plenty of labels to slip inside the seed envelopes. And you can fit so much more info if you type it up. And it was SO easy!
Gita
Jill
I leave it up to you at this point. If my house looks funny I will blame it on you!! HAHAHAHA
BTW I sent you pics of the house so you can see what you are working with...
Labels come unstuck... so even though tags inside might be partly obscured by the seeds, they'll stay put!
I use a label template (lost track of which one, but it has 18 per page, 3 columns of 6), but I just print them out on plain paper and cut them apart so they fit into the baggies. That gives me plenty of space for common name, latin name, description, etc... I think putting *your* DG name on the bag is one of the most important things, since that lets people easily get back to you with questions, especially for seed collected from your garden.
Jill - I can order more if you like...was just trying to hurry as I didn't want to hold you up. I will p/u baggies at my Wally World and let you know how many I can get my hands on...I'll be by another (WM) one tonight as well.
Chantell, I'm still finalizing because I got distracted... you're welcome to add more if you get right on it! :-)
LOL, if you are getting baggies for me the least I can do is wait for you to order more seeds.
We're a bit over $30. You don't *have* to add more, but please let me know what else you want rather than placing another order for yourself later on... no sense in spending money on shipping like that if we don't have to!
sad face==
I have common milkweed, the pink one, not tuberosa -- Sorry!!
Jill are you saying you are a purple- and- orange lover? Must give you Tithonia if you haven't tried it.
No orange for me, thanks!
Jenn is the one wanting to build a purple and orange garden, thanks to our flurry of Dmail last night. Her 4 year old loves orange, Jenn loves purple, and I pointed out that those colors actually work really well together... but not in my garden, LOL, because I really don't like orange.
Unless Tithonia has a really heavenly scent of course, or something else to recommend it... LOL! I did grow annual Lion's Ear (Leonotis) for the butterflies a couple years ago. It got huge! 6 feet tall, at least! But not good around little ones wtih bare feet... the spines on those seed pods were fierce, even if they were way up high. I'm not giving her castor bean seeds for safety reasons either... wait until her youngest won't eat the pretty and poisonous beans.
Chantell, do you think we can get our Parks order in before close of business today? Or do you need until tonight and I'll put in in so they get it first thing in the morning?
Tithonia is a big rangy plant but very orange flower, and easy care- Jenn, I think I have some to share. Can also give you a purple morning glory if you can do a vine. You could actually do th vine ON the tithonia..
Oh, critter, dear, dear, critter?
Would you mind adding 2 to the Parks?
0255 Balsam Camelia Blackberry Trifle
1875 Sedum Hardy Blend (unless you think that one packet that I think you said you were already getting, would be enough to split.)
(I also didn't 'need' any seeds, you see.
Sally, you got 'em. I'd already added an extra packet of the sedum, figuring somebody would want them! And I didn't resist the Balsam, either... want a whole packet, or just half?
Another iron in the fire... anybody want something from Garden Store 'n More? She's got free shipping but a minimum $10 order.... and her price on those Hibiscus seeds are way better than Parks... I got Adenium seeds from her last year that germinated very nicely, although the little plants look a bit battered around the edges now (my fault -- watering issues). I doubt I'll have any trouble meeting the minimum, but figured I'd see if anybody had been looking at just one packet. She's got a classifieds ad in the DG forum.. web site is here, http://www.gardenstore-n-more.com/servlet/StoreFront
Jill you can see if anything would work for my butterfly garden. LOL I cannot look right now, but will try to in a few minutes.. Interns are driving me nuts right now...
Anyone want 100 interns? UGH
Dang, I tried and she's currently sold out of A. tuberosa. I may just bite the bullet and order the Hibiscus from Park's. After all, I was happy with the price until I found it just now on the other site! LOL
OK, I have been typing up a list...
These are the seed packets that I'll have available (with a little luck) for the taking at the swap. I will try to sort some out into bags ahead of time as per requests, but if you'll try to keep track also that'll help!
The first list are mostly seeds I had on the dining room table before Thanksgiving, plus a few varieties that I knew I still had hanging around from previous years. This doesn't take into the account the many packets in my stash that could spare a pinch of seed, so if there's something you're looking for, give me a holler and I'll see if I have it.
The second list are extra packets from Illoquin's Cottage garden swap. Again, there are other seed packets from that swap where you'd be welcome to snitch a few... but these are packets that you can just have outright (or split if more than one person wants them -- most have plenty of seeds).
If there's anything you definitely know you want, let me know. That way, I know to put it aside from other trade offers and make sure it's still here for the swap. Otherwise, the list just serves to give you an idea of the sorts of things you might be able to find in my seed box on the day... :-)
