North Texas Garden Party- Head Count
wow already....how ya gettin it there by a sled team or a snowmobile? LOL...
I am here until the first week in June, wife and son are going now to get the place and the job hunt started.
right? I have no idea but the truck is rented and we are on the way - one way or another.
I've never been to one,but will try to get to this one, I'm learning so much from just reading you guys..... anyone advise me as what to expect?
I'd like to bring a friend, she needs to get out, surgeries have been keeping her home alot the last couple of years..
Hey Pye,
Don't know what to expect with Bronc in charge! LOL! But most of the time at the swaps we bring small plants, seeds, bags of potting soil, etc. that we want to swap for something others have. If you don't have much to bring please come anyway, you will leave with lots of goodies that others don't want to take back home. We will sign up for a pot luck dish or item for the lunch later on a different thread. What you definately will leave with is face to face group of friends that have like interests. You will be able to continue the friendships on DG and know who they are. Don't forget your camera.
Look forward to meeting both of you. Oh, I live in SW FW are you close?
Hey Pye as Sheila said don't' worry if ya don't have much to swap I didn't when i went to my first one in Oct. after moving here in July but had a great time.
It is fun and great to put real faces to names and bring your friend too will be fun for her too.
I live on the west side of Ft.Worth....
I can't wait, and I'm sure all of you have some, but my spider plants have been going nuts this winter, should I bring some of them? I can bring others too,I'll get a list together.
Leanne will love getting out too.We have been wanting to do something fun...
Not only am I ready to get with spring, I'm sick of the flu, been in bed for 2 days now,and the last weekend too. This stuff is kicking my hiney.I'm kicking back, massive amounts of soup, water and C,along with the shot, and meds from Doc.If I am not over it, I won't come, I feel like Typhoid Mary at this point. The dogs are even tired of being in bed.LOL
Hey, Phyllis, as far as I am concerned, you brought plenty! Did I mention that that American beauty berry has green stems now? It's not leafed out yet, but it's not dead. ::beam::
Welcome, Pye, I can also attest to the friends you'll make here. Don't worry if you don't have stuff to bring. We're just glad to have a new friend!
Oh, did I mention that I may not be at this RU? But I'll still look forward to meeting you in the fall.
aaaaaaaaaw , pb, i was looking forward to talking to you again.
Bronc,
We need to get the link to the trade page in the top post on this thread. Can you do that please. It took we a while to track it down because no one has posted since Feb, so here is the link. Thanks.

Barb, aren't you coming to College Station?
Oh, well, we'll get to talk when your 1300 mums get here. :)
well dawn and i are talking about going together but i know i wont' go by myself. the mums will be here in about 2 wks. hooray!
Ok, this is what I've got worked out for the 19th. We are planning on borrowing the 15 passenger van from my mom's church, and then renting 2 additional 15 passenger vans for a weekend rate of about $110 each. That's a total of $220 for the 2 vans, and so far, we've got about 40 people coming. I divided 220 by 40 and got 5.50, so I think if everyone could bring $6 per head, we can pay for the vans and the extra, if there is any, will go towards the pavillion rental which is $25. Now, remember that we will be bringing dishes for a pot luck lunch and for everyone who comes to my house afterwards, LouC's husband, Mike, will be cooking brisket served with beans, coleslaw, and tater salad. Drinks will also be srved at my house. Is $6 ok with everyone?
Also, I've been thinking we could honor a member at each North Texas swap with an Outstanding Gardener Award. It might be a garden plaque for that person to place in their garden or a special plant that person really likes. We could nominate people based on things like kindness, generosity, gardening achievements, experience, and contributions to DG. What do y'all think? If y'all think it's a good idea, I'll start a thread to begin the nominations.
Getting closer to swap time!!!! YeeeeeeHaw!

Six is fine here.. will not have son or wife at least not at this time.
TJ if you dont mind maybe a secret ballet of those members coming and then posting the "canidates" might be better - then a vote here for count. Might be faster and better then a thread to get first some canidates.
Good idea, Mitch! Maybe everyone could send one person a d-mail with their nomination, then that person could post the nominees and everyone could send a d-mail to that person with their vote. Or is that not secret enough?
That is perfect - and it will keep people focused. Just make sure people who are a part of the swap are the ones voting - at least that is my 2 cents.
I agree! Only those attending the swap would be allowed to vote. Thanks Mitch!
Here's my 2 cents...I agree with the 2 of ya LOL
I agree, only those attending are allowed to vote.
I forgot one thing, can spouses and friends attending vote too? or just members only?
Josephine.

bronc--my attending is going to depend on this fence mess. My fence is basically shored up at this point--I will know more (I hope) about the status of my life after the HOA meeting on the 20th.
DMJ you better be here! Lol - Are you going to college station for sure? I can send your sumac there in the pot - I had to trim it sad to say :-( but it still stands 3 1/2 foot tall - cut almost 4 foot off the top - was bigger then I thought.
LMK - I was going to go ahead and send it over to TJs today.
bronc, mamajack will most likely have 2 and maybe 3 with her. 2 kids most likely and maybe one other adult.
Frostweed, I think it would be best if only members voted, but it's up for discussion.
Dmj, I really hope you can make it because I want to meet you.
Mitch, I will see you in a bit.
Mama, I'll make note of your additions. Thanks!
Food thread is up: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/822983/
I think Bluesmaven is only +1, unless she contacted you.
Also CocoLulu was hoping to make it, and Debnes usually has family with her also.
You guys contact Bronc or post if you need him to change the list. We need to get a good head count.
Mitch and Bronc--
I won't be going out of town anywhere until the fence issue is resolved one way or the other. Monday before last, during the storm, my entire 80' back fence collapsed. I can't leave my property wide open--there is a road behind my house, not other houses. The subdivision is planning to replace that fence anyway--but they haven't got all the required legally notorized homeowner's forms back. Now my fence is shored up on the inside with 2 x 4's; but I don't know how long that will hold up in spring wind storms. The HOA meeting on the issue is the 20th, so should know then whether they, or I, will be replacing it.
Trust me I will be there if I can. Its kind of like "train spotting" except I call it "fence spotting" everytime a cold front blows through--I'm constantly staring out my back window to see if its holding up.

Debbie, here's hoping you get your fence repaired soon.
I'll mark you down, Earthling! Glad you can make it!

Not sure about my friend, but I am going to make it,going to the food thread now...
Thanks Blue! You and Sesitz have one guest each now.
Can't wait to meet you, Pye!!
I'm excited too, I was just reading LouC's epsom salt thread, and have to try it. The lady that owned the house had yards of good soil trucked in the the mid80's,found the receipt in cleaning out the workshop.I have lots of earthworms, and I think this might be the year I get plants in the ground, most are in pots, trying to decide where the beds would go.I might just have to bring photos and ask you all to help.LOL
We can do that!
Look forward to meeting and talking with you Pye.
I saw where you'll be at the Butterfly exhibit,Sheila,I've been telling everyone I know about it, went with my daughter a couple of years ago, it was awesome.I'm going to try to get there this year, maybe see you there,Becki
Please look for me! I am there 1-5 on weekends, and put my DG ID on my name tag.
Then you were there this last weekend? We went through at about 2:30 and missed each other - or at least I did not see you with MIL, DW, and DS all in the crew.
Yes I was there. Could have missed me while I was on a break, etc. Did you see Paige? She worked with me on one of the days this weekend. The only day I didn't sign up for was the 8th, I visited with my family that day. Debnes is there mornings this week. Such a cool thing to do isn't it. We are going to put a thread up later for pictures from the exhibit, watch for it and post yours.
Back to the headcount........
