I knew what ya meant LOL
Open Mouth - Insert foot! :) Oops, I really meant I have not met in person any gardening friends in the area and that I would be coming alone! I am looking forward to meeting you all person!
Your right, everyone here has been wonderful!
Phyllis, I have found someplace that has bamboo in the millions. I believe it is the same variety you have with the frilly leaves. No matter, someone introduced it to Maui and it is swallowing the island. The mountains are covered with it to the detriment of the native trees and plants. Everything grows with abandon in Hawaii` and the invasivies seem to even more so. It is truly sad as they have no control...not that the scientific brains are not trying. When you come off the plane, they are not so interested in whether you are carrying dope but any kind of plant. I can see why it is so important. Everything becomes invasive because the growing conditions are just perfect. When you leave, you are scanned twice to be sure you are not carrying plant material. Jen's place is gorgeous but she is fighting bouganvillia and orchid tree like mad. Things I would die to have but they multiply everyday and grow huge. She has four colors of boogs that will knock your eyes out. Got to have a backhoe dig them out. I have one tiny little twig in a pot that I have petted for 2 years. Ahhhh the pictures in my mind.
Aloha,
Kilikina
Hello Christi, good to hear from you, and thank you for the report on invasive plants.
Josephine.
Welcome back Christi! We've missed you!
Think I could talk you out of a few Kniphofias?
Good morning, Jo. I brought some seed from Jen's. Had to call AG Dept. to see if it was acceptable. He called me back to be sure I had nothing that is invasive in Texas. I surprised to learn that one of the banned seeds is Mango.
Could probably google invasives in Hawaii. I purchased a book of Faun and Flora in Hawaii. They are classified as:
Aboriginal Introduction, ie, brought by early Polynesians
Endemic to Hawai`i
Indigenous, ie, native to Hawai`i by also found elsewhere
Introduced
Very interesting. So suprised that pothos ivy is growing wild in the forests as ground cover. A lot of what we pet as small houseplants are monstrous trees there. A Ti plant is easily 15 feet. Truly paradise.
Kilikina
If I knew what that was I would be more than glad to share.
Ha ha! Red Hot Pokers, Mitch said he gave you a whole bunch of them. Does that help?
Sure does. I have them in the small horse trough he gave me, all covered up with a planket. They are still mostly dormant but I will glad to share with you anytime you please. I keep telling Mitch he needs to come over and make a list so I know what I have and what to do with it. Most of what he has shared is dormant but planted, waiting for spring to see what it is.
LouC
You crack me up, LouC! Hopefully I can swing by today. Will you be home around 5:00?
Sure. We just came in from Maui about 3 PM yesterday. Still have jet-lag. Big difference in time there.
LouC - WELCOME BACK !! I have sooo missed having you on here... and your wonderful words on the plant life there gave me sweet dreams for the rest of the week.
Maybe this weekend I can come over and help you start that list :-)
Haha! Good one!
There has been talk on the island about Pandas. I don't think they are kidding.
(((((CHRISTI))))) Welcome back to the states...missed ya
Cocoa funny believe me I had thought of it .....but they prefer the leaves not the roots and all I have now are the roots to get out.
Are you sure you want to do this???? it's gonna be basically diggin or pullin up what is in there that got turned over from the backhoe...If I had a tiller it would chop it up more and break it lose again to pile it up on the burn pile but that has to wait till next month and pay day.
will d-mail here soon
BroncBuster - you'll have t take me off the list -

The article is very nice Mitch, it is great when people pull together to help a situation and each other at the same time too.
Wonderful! The pear is one of the best and that rose just does not know when to stop blooming... how is the Aloe?
I get worried when I write that maybe they are not what people want to read or such...
The Aole is doing okay the tips turned a lil brown but it seems to be only the tips.
I enjoyed what you wrote it just reaffirmed my gardening desire and why I have it ....passed on to me through my grandparents and parents for growing fresh yummy good for you fruit and veggies to feed my family.
good - that aloe, the mother plant came from my wifes grandmother who grew it outside in Oklahoma. I have a little one here to move back with us :-)
Thank you - that is what I hope more people start seeing.
Christi I will bring Potato Salad and Homemade Bake beans. That big ole Smoker is awesome! Who is buying the meat? Do we have to chip in on the meat?
