August Blooms in VA

Denver, CO

My wedding is in August. Does anyone know of what flowers are blooming in August in VA? I'm looking for flowers to plant in miniature flower pots for wedding favors.

What is blooming in zones 6B and 7A in August?

Gosh, good luck with the wedding, but where to start with the list of blooms for you at that time of year could run into pages, so I guess the place to start would be with the colour of blooms you require, is the wedding indoors or outside on tables that plants may wilt very quickly, these are all considerations to start with, sometime just a splash of colour and mostly greenery is more effective, so may I suggest you go along to a bookstore, library etc and look at some books with coloured pictures of flowers, perhaps even wedding flowers or flower arrangements (not so much for how to do flowers for display) but for ideas, then make a list so you can either start your seeds/bulbs or buy the plants in spring to grow on as for perennials, that way you will be able to grow the type of theme you really want, I know this might not be the answer you were looking for, but it is like the world of flora is yours for the asking at that time of year, also the books would give hints and tips on the best time to gather your flowers, how to care for them till the displays are on the tables and these are just as important and will be the best guide as to the type of flowers for that situation. good luck. happy hunting. Hundreds of plants are blooming at that time of year... can you narrow down your needs a little? How big are the pots, what color flowers, etc.

WeeNel and claypa are right, that's the middle of summer, so pretty much everything will be in bloom. No sweet peas or pansies, but pretty much anything else is possible!

Do you have a color preference? Unless it is a fall blooming perennial or an early spring bulb, you shouldn't have a problem finding something here. That was the one of the prettiest times of year in my garden.

Just another thought - there are no decent flowers in the nurseries in August. The annuals have been sold, and the perennials have all been picked over. Of course, if you are planning in advance, you can have a nursery order something nice in time for your wedding day. I definitely wouldn't leave it up to chance.
