Phaleonopsis problem

Valsolda, Italy(Zone 9b)

Hello,

I have had an Orchid for over 3 years. Every winter it sends up a flower shoot and blossoms in spring until the autumn. This winter the same thing is happening, but now the leaves are going pale and wrinkled. The flower buds are also falling off.

Can you post a picture? The wrinkled leaves sounds like possibly a watering issue, but I'm not an orchid expert so there could be other things going on too (insect damage is another that comes to mind).

Sounds like your Orchid has been sent into some kind of shock, but as Ecrane said, a picture would be better if that's possible, I have some Orchids from years back, some years they do flower better than others, but bud drop usually happens when the plant is under attack or has been moved while in bud, over watering or even needing a feed with special Orchid food from garden store. wish I could be more helpful, but it also depends on what type of Orchid you have as there are hundreds of different types. good luck. Hello,

My orchid has dropped nearly all it leaves now. The only one that is left is still green. I have been on holiday. I did tell the cleaner to water it every monday. Will it survive? I have left the earth to go stone dry.

Go the the orchid forum and post the pics/problem. I'm a phal killer myself but can grow the other types...

tommy's right, the Orchid forum is the place to get the best answers. I really don't know that much about orchids, but if this was another sort of plant my first guess would be that you've been watering it too much. I also wonder if the pot you have it in is ideal--some orchids need better air circulation around their roots, that's why when you see pots that were made specially for orchids they often have extra holes in them around the side. And I can't really see from the picture what type of soil you have it potted in--is it orchid bark? If you have it in normal potting soil then that makes it more likely that it's overwatering, orchid bark provides better drainage and keep air around their roots better.

Hello,

I have a special orchid pot and it has got orchid bark instead of normal soil. It is near a window so it gets often drafts when it is warm.I have been on holiday for 2 weeks. Will it come back? It has stopped going yellow. The flower stalk has gone yellow and red. Should I cut this off?
