Coupon for $10 off Houseplants at Lowe's!!!!!!
Brilliant deal eh, wish it would still be on when I visit the USA in March, I can just picture my husbands face if I told him we had to go earlier because there was a plant sale going on, well actually, maybe wont want that picture in my head, spoil my visit. Good luck. hope you all get some real bargains. WeeNel.
Welcome to the USA when you come! Where are you are going to? We're in the opposite boat, DH and I would love to visit Scotland :)
Thanks for your warm welcome, we visit the USA each year in spring, Florida, and a wonderful place called Naples, it is not too hot then and I love being able to walk along the deserted beaches in the mornings, we have done this for about the last 10 years and was seriously thinking we should buy a small place there as my kids are all grown up and they would use it with the grand-kids, but late last year when I started looking for a place, I got to thinking, what husband and I would like as a place to stay is so different from the roomy place kids would want, so I came up with the answer, to heck with what the kids want, we will stick to renting what we want, as my dear old Grandmother used to say "the parents will travel 3 rd class to save cash for the kids to travel 1st class after the parents are well gone" so guess what, I will just spend the kids 1st class travel ticket now, they can get there own place, Ha, Ha, Ha. A few years ago, we drove slowly over a good few weeks, from Seattle across to Florida and it was breathtaking, I was stunned by the diversity of the different states we went through, we then stayed on the Hawaiian Islands for about 3 weeks and that was something great too, so we are well versed with travel to USA, each time we do the trip, we find something new.
As for you visit to Scotland, the best time would be around May, the weather is a bit more settled that month and the colours are also wonderful then, there are some wonderful cities to visit and historically, you wont find much better anywhere else in the world, but again, it all depends on what you like to do on a visit, I go to Florida to shorten our cold, wet winter, get some sunshine into the old bones before my garden springs into life. hope you make it here some day, you can let me know if you need any help with that. best wishes. WeeNel.
WeeNel, I think you made a wise decision not buying a place in Florida. No offense to the Floridians, but I don't know how they can stand having that big red target painted on them all the way through hurricane season! Renting saves you the worry every time there's a storm moving that way.
And may I add my welcome to the U.S. as well! My absolute favorite series of books is Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series, which takes place mostly in Scotland, mostly in the 1700's. Her writing is so vivid, I not only feel like I've been to Scotland after reading her books, I feel like I've lived in a castle in Scotland in the 1700's after reading her books! I'd love to go there for real as well.
Tir_Na_Nog: Thank you so much for that info. I went right to the website and signed up and printed my $10 coupon! I am heading out to run some errands this morning and will be going by Lowe's on my way home! Gotta use that coupon before it expires Jan 31st!
WeeNel: It sounds like you and your hubby have done a lot of travel in the U.S. I too would love to visit Scotland some day as well as Ireland (where my great grandparents were from.) You pick a great area to visit when you are in Florida and a great time of year too! The SW coast is lovely. We sometimes during the summer take our boat and spend a few days over in the Longboat Key area. Haven't been down to the Naples area in many years though. I do prefer the Gulf side over the Atlantic.
Peeper: LOL. I never thought of us Floridians as having a big red target painted on us?! Hurricanes can and do affect many states, from the Gulf Coast all the way up the Atlantic Coast. I was born and raised in Virginia and remember when I was young a hurricane coming through that area and a tree going through our roof. I've been in Florida more than 40 years and have only had scary Cane's affect us once, in 2004 when Hurricane's Charley, Frances & Jeanne all came through within a 5 week period!! We were very fortunate and had no damage to our home at all ... the yard was a mess with trees uprooted everywhere but landscape is easy to replace! Some areas of the state were devastated, especially on the SW coast where people lost their homes and posessions. Those storms were only a category 1 by the time they reached our area. My husband knows if we ever have powerful storms above a cat 2 that I would be long gone before it arrived! And ... then there was Katrina - we all know the results of that storm in the Gulf Coast area. It will take many, many years for those areas to be back to normalcy.
I've heard some folks say they could never live in California because of the Earthquakes and Mudslides, the Midwest because of Tornadoes, some of the NW area's because of Avalanches ... Disaster can happen anywhere. My husband has lived in Florida since before he was a year old and I've been here for over 40 years. The older I get the more the humidity gets to me during the summer. I am hoping hubby will retire in another few years and we can move a bit farther north for summer and back to Florida in winter! That way we could have the best of both worlds, but I don't know if it will ever happen as he loves his job and hopes to work well into his 70's!
Well, I better get going and get my errands done and get to Lowe's to see if I can find a nice plant and use my $10 coupon!
Have a great day everyone!
I will have to look for those books by Diana Gabaldon! They sound like something I would Love! Thanks for mentioning them!
I was thinking the same on those books!
Just a note, the original thread on the coupon, the gal said she had a purchase but the plants didn't total 10 bucks, the cashier took the $10 discount off the entire purchase anyways. :)
Where I live in Scotland, there is a ferry crossing about 1 hour 20 mins from my home, I live on the wonderful west coast, the ferry takes you all the way to Ireland, If all you guys arrive here at the same time, think of the fun we could have talking about gardens and castles, the latter I have about 3 of these castles on my doorstep, also almost every major city in Scotland has a castle to visit or a ruin of one, so you folks wont be stuck for adventure, scenery or gardens open to the public, we have hundreds, all growing different species. As with all the diversity of your weather conditions in different states, I have to say, the worst thing we ever had to endure was the Red Tide while on Sanibel a few years ago, we had to leave as it was affecting our breathing, obviously not affected bad enough as we plan to visit and stay for one week on the Island where we have a reunion with my brother and cousin along with their families from Canada, they also like to get away from the harsh winters. very best wishes to all you would be visitors to Scotland, hope you dont have too long a wait. WeeNel.
Scotland sounds wonderful, WeeNel - aaaah! Castles and Gardens, nothing better than that! I do hope to someday make a trip across that big pond! I have never been in a plane longer than 2 hrs at a time so would have to get some courage to make that long plane ride to the UK! I always said if the Concord were still flying and I could afford it - that is the way I would go! Maybe in the not too distant future there will be another SST flying to and from Europe! And, maybe I will win the lottery! LOL.
Enjoy your visit to the U.S. and Florida! Sanibel Island is a beautiful area. Red tide was in August/September on the Gulf Coast this year and then we had it here on the East Coast of Florida in October! We don't have it over here every year as they seem to do on the Gulf side ... it can get pretty bad, especially for folks with lung problems. I can't imagine spending time at the beach during red tide bloom!
Hi Plantlady, thanks for your kind words, I was a week in Daytona beach 2 years ago, by accident, we had rented a place for a week in Fort Lauderdale and the place was roofless due to the hurricane, so we had to scramble around to find a new place to rent, by chance we got Daytona Beach, loved it, right on the beach, great places to eat and relaxed by the pool, walked the beach each morning, heaven. Who said gardeners are boring people and all they do is talk plants, obviously there is more to us than non gardeners know eh. Happy gardening. WeeNel.
I'm glad you enjoyed your stay in Daytona Beach! My husband and I have been here since 1973 and I've never really cared for this area but he loves his job so we will be here until he retires! We have seen this area as well as the entire state of Florida grow and become more congested over the years. Traffic is getting bad everywhere in the state. My sister and her family live in the Fort Lauderdale area ... they have been in South Florida since 1969 and love it. I really hate the traffic down there. I do remember when hubby and I were married in 1969, we used to travel from St. Petersburg where we lived to Orlando to visit his family and there would be only @ a dozen cars on Interstate 4! That of course was before Disney World ... now I-4 is awful with so much traffic from Daytona Beach across the state to St. Petersburg!
We have a small boat and are out at Ponce Inlet (the south end of Daytona Beach) a lot during the summer. Here's where we anchor our boat quite often and have lunch and just sit and look at the lighthouse and the beautiful scenery:
i am hoping for the coupon--lord knows as much as i spend at lowes it will be good to get a little something for nothing!! but it might be over--i didn't see any mention on the home page--did you find out about it after you signed up for their site?
I didn't get the coupon until I registered at the site, and if I remember correctly I registered, logged out and then logged back in and got the coupon.
thanks planladylin! didn't feel like filling it all out without the coupon--although it did look like it might be an interesting site--thing is i find interesting sites and then never go to them again--too much!!
According to coupon, it's good until Jan 31. I went to Lowes today and found a phal orchid in clearance. Its in a nice cache pot. It even has a flower spike with some buds on it. What a bargin!
Could any one help me i cant find the $10 off houseplants at lowes. I get to the page and it isn't there. help me please!!
same with me- I couldn't find the coupon. I signed up, just to see if it would come by email, but no luck.
I think they've discontinued the coupon. Maybe they were swamped with so many registration's that they decided they were giving away too much money!?
Earlier, I managed to find the link to the coupon, but it said the page couldn't be found. Now I can't find it at all.
Thats awful I was looking forward to it I can never have enough plants! Thanks everyone!
Hi WeeNel: Thanks for your reply on night blooming cereus -- was looking for some info on that coupon from Lowe's and came across this thread. Hope you have a wonderful time this year in FL -- we have a home about 20 miles from Daytona Beach and enjoy about 3 to 4 months here in the winter, and come back for "Yard Duty" every couple of months. We have been to Scotland and I was thrilled to go to Dunrobin (sp), which is the area my ancestors came from. The whole area is so beautiful.
I used my coupon at Lowe's yesterday and got a $14.97 hanging basket hoya for $4.97. The cashier had trouble with the coupon ... his computer kept coming up saying it expired on Jan 16th when it was printed right on the coupon that it was good until Jan 31- he had to call a supervisor to over ride and let me get the $10 off!
Here's my speckled leaf Hoya lacunosa. I sure hope the blooms smell as wonderful as the solid green leaf one!
No more coupons- just signed up but got that news. Did say they would honor the ones given out, and to ask for the supervisor if any problem.
Same here sallyg
but it looks like a interesting site
I got my coupon (thanks tir_na_nog!) Like plantladylin, I got a beautiful hoya for $4.97. Been wanting one for a while but just couldn't make myself spend that much money on it (spend enough on yard "weeds," as hubby calls them, lol). They had to get a supervisor to get my coupon to work too.
coupon is gone from the website, boohoo
