As a last resort and about $5 get a LARGE tomato cage, spray paint with primer and paint black or white or any color. Invert the cage so the round 'top' is on the ground. Get landscaping staples for mulch fabric and secure the top of the cage into the ground. Take the 3 legs that are standing up and use heavy wire to wrap around the teepee style top. They have extra large cages at Walmart for $5 and the paint is under $1 at too.
That will work for added height now.
I like that too-what I am thinking of doing-tell me if you think this will work-is getting some wood-about 4 pieces and using bird netting to create a cheap big one for the 6 behind my garage I want (the 3 I have and the 3 I want), then in the middle of my 2 beds I want to get some kind of pole, stick it in the ground and tie about 6 pieces of fishing line to it and put them in the ground w/ staples and have a clematis of 2 climbing that-what do ya think-will they hold???
If they have to be cut back every year it could be disaster. Another of my errors!
Sounds nice...but you could get rebar over by your fence and let it climb...They come in 10 footers...for the ones from Debbie at Silver Star Vinery your gonna need them!!!^_^

HI Guys!! Oh i am always behind!! OH Clematis talk!! I like it!!
Stacey you could mount something to your garage wall for the clematis to climb. MANY thing
will work: chicken wire ( they have galvanized and green colored now ) Or as you say black bird netting.
Any of those things in a 24" wide and 10' tall strip mounted to the garage wall with those cable staples
will hold a clematis and the clematis will cover the wire so you would not even know it was there in
about 2 years!! Well i agree your neighbors may not want something growing on the fence but if you talk with them about it giving BOTH sides a bit of privacy without a big tall fence they may like it!
The other thing that you can use is those old porch posts that i see people put to the trash made of
wrought Iron!! they are usually very decorative, 6'-8' tall and free!!
I have one I have not used yet. it is a corner post and was going to put it up in my yard. I will send a picture of it. A guy around the corner from me replaced his whole porch with wood. The iron was so much prettier
I grabbed up all of them and gave 3 others away!! You can look in neighborhoods for people replacing porch columns or go to Habit resale shop or a flea market or ask friends!!
I Saw a guy driving with a truck full of junk a few years ago. But out of the top of the truck I saw a pair of 7' x 24" wrought Iron shutters. I asked him how much he wanted for them. I paid $3.00 for the pair!!
I also bought a pair of iron head boards (twin size) they are in my beds and a full or queen size
iron head board and foot board from a garage sale for $5.00!! I will get you some pictures. They are
all things you can use to have clematis climb. I got 6 old iron plain iron gates a woman was throwing away and well just anything that looks like i may be able to use I take out of the trash or buy cheaply!!
If you start looking you will find lots of neat stuff!! Garage sales are a great time to tell friends and family what to look for for you!!
And please do not forget you can buy a 10'-12' post or get a free used clothes line post. Dig a hole,
put it in the ground 3' deep. Fill the hole with slag ( a crushed concrete you have to buy from a
slag/stone seller) You can get it by the bushel maybe $2.00 each. Tamp it down and then you can wrap chicken wire around it and put a feeder or bird house on top of the post and you can grow a fabulous clemitis on that!! You can put in varied heights in groups of threes and make a very interesting
vertical bed with a great deal of interest!! I have done all of the above i am telling you . it is not hard
and they are all cheap ideas!! I LOVE cheap!! Free is even better!! More money for plants!!

See These are the twin head boards I got and painted them black!! I love them !
OK I'll try not to bore you but the bed frame i got for 5.00 is also a pretty good support! i put in separate beds the headboard and foot board! I also spray painted them black!! And OK i have not got all my clean up done yet!! Too many Co-op Plants coming in the door!! But here it is anyway. It is in a lily bed
with clematis on one side!

Ok here is the last one ..My old swing that lost it's seat is now a "trellis" of sorts! It has my earliest blooming clematis..You can see the purple / blue alpina flowers!
Everything has clematis on it!! Ok I lied! I was going to show one more of the little border gates i am mounting on a dog run to grow clematis on! i think in a few years i can change how that galvanized fencing looks in my yard!!

This is the little border fencing i am putting on the top of my galvanized fence to have growing vines
soften the harsh look of the dog run! I think it will work. It won't look much like a fence after it is filled
in with vines. But it saved me from 10 more years of leashing up dogs for potty duty 3 or more xs a day!!

Hey I went to see Dori yesterday!! WOW what a spread!! Beautiful area. And the gardens...
She not only has green 'thumbs' but green fingers and toes!!! Everything is growing in her dutiful care. Her yard is a sight to behold. Little and big garden art, figures, benches, hangers, arches, and of course lots
and lots of plants of every kind and variety. It was as good a visit as any 'public garden'!! I spent 2 hours and we rushed through the last part!! WOW Dori you made me want to go home and pull some weeds!! Oh yeah did I mention a meticulous attention to weeding, coloration and planting types and varieties!!
Dori, You are Michigan's Foremost uncertified Master Gardener!! And I lay my trowel before you!!!
I could go every week and the way she has it laid out the garden will be ablaze with color...beautiful indeed!!
Well i could go on but like every good story you all have to go there and i don't want to spoil it for you!!

I have not planted the ones from Dan yet. i was afraid they would start to grow and my hoop house is loaded with co-op plants!! my house has 10' ceilings and it is about 10 degrees cooler inside than out!! i was afraid they would suffer.
Hey on the coleus co-op are you gonna share??? i will start cuttings for you from all my coleus. i will also bring 'freckles' with me or i can keep it until i see you in the summer !! Or i can bring it with me to Fairys when i come on Sunday to help her pack the plants to ship to all.

I had a couple from Dan bite the dust and a couple of the ones I got from Julie too-thank god she gave me 6 of each one!!LOL I have inky fingers and a mystery coleus form her-no clue as to what it is!!LOL I am so excited!! I am hoping the weather holds out so I can get it all done on Saturday-if we get bad storms though, it may be postponed til thurs-I will have to see....
