Pearisburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Fairy, I think she is a bit south of you. Not sure how far the drive would be to Texas, isn't that where those cow pots come from?

I didn't get any of those pots, now that you guys love them I wish I did. Maybe next year when another co-op rolls around.

k

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

I have friends in San Antonio, could just do a texas round up of cows-maybe even do it w/ horses and a branding iron-how fun!!!;)

Oh Kathy-you have to get the poop pots they are wonderful!! I got a split from a campanula the other day in the mail, put them in the poop pots and that afternoon, they were already perking back up after a thorough watering!!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I just started with the cowpots during the last month, from the co-op, and I'm very pleased with them.

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Me too!! Love em!! Cow poop is the best!!LOL

Lincoln Park, MI(Zone 5a)

Do those COW pots stink???heard some do!!!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Thanks.

The cowpots do NOT smell at all.

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Don't get your hopes up tto high-most of my stuff is just kind of peeking right now-I am hoping some tuplips are up and at em by then and I have crocuses coming up slowly-It will be pretty in a bit though!! Boy are my celmatis sure coming up quickly!! It seems like the other day wehn I looked-last week-they were about an inch or so up and now they are like 6" up!! I agree the COW pots I have do not smell.....I am so excited to meet ya!!

Pearisburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Fairy
I agree the clematis grew over night. I also checked, and clipped mine a couple weeks ago and they were on their first set of leaves. Yesterday I looked and some were 12 inch or better. We've had lots of rain and crazy temps but the warmth that comes this Wed - Friday of 70s will make them grow like crazy.

K

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

aaa-R U ignoring my gmail??? I am hesitant to clip anything off mine-last years looks like sticks of dead, but the new is tremendous!! And all the new is coming out of the ground-not off the dead looking stuff from last year..

Pearisburg, VA(Zone 7a)

I just replied. I took a nap -3 hrs worth. I'll never get myself back to normal after being off with surgery. Working 8 hr days will kill me.

Put the food to them now too. I cut them back and put the plant food to them right away.

Debbie says to put manure (not COW but bagged stuff) in the hole with peat and 10-10-10. Dig DEEP so the roots will reach for it. It really works.

Go read your email

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Tag-U R it!!:)

Lincoln Park, MI(Zone 5a)

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Debbie is so wonderful!! Even though I am apparantly a dummie and planted my 3 too close and want 3 more-she is helping me with that I guess I got 2 pruning groups planted to gether:(

BTW-took the pic w/ my cell, so it isn't the best-it actually has alomst maroon centers to the petals-will try to get a better pic this next year. I know we are "supposed" to cut them all back and not let them flower the 1st year, but I can't help it-I need AT LEAT a couple of them B4 I cut it back...anyone else like me??

Pearisburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Debbie says to cut them back- it's hard to do, even for her at times. But more flowers if you cut them !!

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

I have to see 1 flower-please mom!!! (on my knees) Then I will cut them back-I promise!! PLEASE!!!

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Lol. I know just how you feel! I've got several babies on my porch and I'm hoping none of them make buds, because I don't want to have to cut them back without seeing them!

Fortunately, I also have a couple of bigger ones that I just got from Silver Star recently, and they both have buds on them! Yay!

Belgium, WI(Zone 5a)

I love getting deliveries from Silver Star ... it's so much fun. And I'm glad to hear you guys talking about Princess Di ... I have one of those coming from Debbie next month! My plan was to try to get it to grow up my smokebush ... we'll see if I stick with that or not.

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

I can't beleive how much mine are growing-my Haku Ookan has all kinds of little greens on the old wood and the all 3 have at LEAST 12" of new shoots-WOOHOO!!:)

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Here are pictures of the two I got from her and just planted about 3 weeks ago.

Crystal Fountain has this bloom and at least one other big fat bud waiting to open.

And here is Florida Sieboldii. You can see that it's grown about 3 feet already and you probably can't see it in the picture, but I counted 10 buds on it today!

Remember - only received from Silver Star and planted 3 weeks ago!

I did a yard survey this evening and some of mine are far larger than the picture you just posted. I do have 2 that are little girls and about 2 inches tall but they were planted this spring. it's amazing how the growth goes from day to day.

Richmond Hill, GA

Digigirl, Clever idea with the netting on your trellis. Now why didn't I think of that. LOL Is it just netting to keep out birds for fruit trees?
Arlene

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Yes, I got it at Ace Hardware. For some reason, nobody else seems to carry it around here. When I got my first Clematis last year, I had read that they grab onto things with little tendrils and that sometimes, trellises are too fat for them. So I covered my trellises with this netting and some black zip ties (just snipped off the excess). It was pretty quick and easy.

Now, having read further since then, it seems it is probably not really necessary, but I think it does give them more places to grab on, so I'll probably keep doing it. They definitely zoom right up and along it and if they go taller than my trellis, I just guide them back down the other side.

I think I overdid it on the obelisk you saw in that picture, though. Because I was going around (instead of covering a flat trellis), I ended up doubling up in a couple of places to have full coverage and it's kind of in the way. If I was doing that one again, I would be more careful. Plus, I didn't notice when I got the netting this time it has smaller squares. The one I did last year has about 2" squares, this one is more like 1".

Hopefully Crystal Fountain won't mind!

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

It seems like every day when I go out and look that they have all gotten much larger-they are all like 12" at least and the Haku and Multi have new growth on last yeas vines!! YEAH!!☼

Lincoln Park, MI(Zone 5a)

I'm sooo excited Stacey get to see all your babies coming up tomorrow,oh what fun...LOL..on all the pictures we'll all be smiling and not hiding behind anyone!!!plus!!!!^_^!!!means PLUS!!!!

Twonewfs.... you will love Princess Diana...did you get yours yet??she blooms all Summer till Fall..

Belgium, WI(Zone 5a)

We originally scheduled to have her ship it later in May because the weather around here is so darn undependable. I was actually thinking of calling Debbie and telling her to ship whenever is convenient but then I saw a note on the Web site that princess Di isn't shipping until the end of May anyway!

I am excited!

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

HELP ME PICK ONES!!! I want group 3 and I am looking at several-I had a few in mind and Debbie gave me some more-which ones are your faves???

Pearisburg, VA(Zone 7a)

I'm terrible with names. I'll ck the website and get back to you.

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Thanks-hey did your stuff arrive???

Pearisburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Yes they did and they are healthy and happy. Thanks !!!!

I highly recommend Barbara Harrington, John Huxtable, Etoile Violette. This year my new ones are (and this isn't all of them, I just can't remember all the names): Lady Betty Belfour, Natasha (gets huge), Negritianka (planted by a pink fairy rose) Niobe, Polish Spirit, Tie Dye, and like I said - about 10 more I don't recall the names for.

Debbie and I both have Barbara Harrington outside out kitchen window - I told her were I planted it and she said that is where he's is located - so you can see her beauty from inside. She is growing like crazy. I ordered 4th of July rose from Dan's co-op and Debbie recommends planting it with John Huxtable.

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

I have the list of the ones she recommended at home somewhere...there are about 10 I REALLY want, but only room for 3 right now, then hopefully another 2 when we put on the new arbor and deck in a couple years and then if I can talk Dan into helping me build for over my 1 gate I want to block off then I can have 2 more!! I am trying to find as many places as possible to get some more!!!

Lincoln Park, MI(Zone 5a)

Stacey you have lots of room in your big yard...I forget what all I ordered know I did get some more Princess Diana..Prince Charles ones enough for me!!!hes a nice one..but if she does Camilla or whatever her name is!!!noway!!!

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

I do have lots of room, but to put things that climb-not so much-I have to create things...that is why I want the arbor and entranceway-for clematis!! Chris doesn't really get it, but is more impressed with things this year than he was last year-I think he is slowly starting to get it.....too bad he isn't handy enough to be able to make me things...I need to steal Dale from Dori!!

Fenton, MI(Zone 5b)

Hey Fairy!!!!
It's jazzy!! You could plant 100's!! YOU HAVE A CHAIN LINK FENCE!!!!!
Plant your clematis to grow up the fence, one right after another. It will cover the fence and be
SPECTACULAR!! I have over 100 Clematis now and they are every where, in my roses, up trees!
I even found an old TV. antenna and took it down from a neighbors house. It was in 3 pieces. I painted it black and I now grow 3 clematis on each one and also a climbing rose. !! I will take a better picture but I included one here! It even has a hole in the top frame that fit a small gazing ball. All for free! I love free and cheap...well enough about Dan!! LOL!LOL!! OK Dan I did not mean it, it was just a joke! You have lots of good ideas! (misting table, etc.)
I will take another picture of something I am doing. I took a chain link dog run I have and I am attempting
to change it . I will post some picks soon.
Remember You have lots of room to grow and when in doubt go UP!

The only problem w/ that is the neighbors-they don't like stuff on "thier side" even if it gorgeous!! I am going to look for stuff at yard sales this summer-I am SURE I can get crative-plus I REALLY want to do some plants in those old boots like I have seen and don'e have any myself!! R U back from work already?? I am on my way out the door to head home right now...be back later!!

Ripon, WI(Zone 4a)

Jazzy, what a great idea. The little gazing ball really finishes it off!
