look at the root balls on the clematis from Debbie. I ordered about 9 last year, 3 each time and they were all this large. It's so amazing and they bloomed like crazy.

It's so worth the time to buy plants like this vs. the box store plants with a single root 3 inches long.

Everyone should check it out. She knows everything about them too.

Pearisburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Look on the clematis thread - I posted them there moments ago.

Lincoln Park, MI(Zone 5a)

Thanks Kathy I found it..I know a few ladies wanted to see how big the roots are...:o)

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I was showing off the roots this morning on the Northeast forum and gave them a link to show them.

Pearisburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Pirl,

Kathy - you must be the best ad for Silver Star. I'm anxious to order but keep reviewing all the photos in case there's just one more I need.

Pearisburg, VA(Zone 7a)

I know- it's hard to decide. You need to email Debbie and tell her what you like - what you don't like. Tell Her I suggested she get your info.

I tell her things like -- it must bloom most of the summer or June - Aug, it should be purple or blue, gets 5 hrs of hot full sun, the rest is shade, etc..

She's going to know exactly which will be perfect for you.
Kathy

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Sure, if I knew in advance where I'd put them! I haven't the slightest and it doesn't hold me back one bit.

Pearisburg, VA(Zone 7a)

It doesn't hold me back one bit either.

Hopkins, MN(Zone 4a)

Thanks for sharing this Kathy, - I am so impressed I am going to order a few plants from her for this spring. I already wrote to her and asked her to hold one Debbie Clem for me, but I want others, as well, - I'll just have to ask her which ones are the best for training on and over my oversized boulders in the front yeard, as well as onto the few shrubs I planted in the last fall.

Debbie will know exactly which ones will work for you. She's been doing this for so long and knows her business like nobody else. I know nothing about them other than I like them. I didn't know there were class 1, 2 and 3 either. That has to do with how you trim them, or if you don't. She is great to explain it - and please everyone post your root balls when your orders arrive.

Kathy

Kathy - we could post the photos of Debbie's root balls and those of others with a ruler in the photo to show the differences.

Ditto what I said in the other thread!! Debbie is the best!! :-)

Orange County, NY(Zone 5b)

Lending my 2 cents . . . I love Debbie and SSV. There is so much to be said about independent/family run business. You are treated like a friend and the product is superior. Just placed another order for 4 new clematis -- can't wait!!!

Pearisburg, VA(Zone 7a)

I ordered 10 plants 2 nights ago from Debbie. Still deciding on the next order.

I was so pleased with the 4 that I ordered from Debbie last year, that I ordered 5 more just recently. The roots on her clematis are great.

I want to order Black Prince. Debbie doesn't have it for sale yet,she is still testing it. Does anyone know of a good place to order it? I want to plant it with Betty Corning. DM

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

DM: Check out Chalk Hill Clematis Nursery for "Black Prince". It's will look stunning together with "Betty Corning". http://www.chalkhillclematis.com/nursery_shop/clematis/black_prince.html

Libby, MT(Zone 4b)

Thanks Shirley, I thought they would look great together too.

Libby, MT(Zone 4b)

Chalkhill is sold out of Black Prince until the fall. I better get my order in for fall planting. Thanks again Shirley

You're welcome :~)

Hey All I just ordered 7 new clematis from Debbie. She emailed me when she got my check.
That is a first!! I usually deal with such big co. I never hear from anyone!!
She helped me make some decisions and so far you are right on Kathy!!!
Can't wait. I am building a new screen across the whole side of my yard instead of a fence!!
It is another attempt to add more CLEMS! I have 70+ . They are everywhere!! Climbing through
and crawling up everything in my yard!! I even found a place to try a Montana which is out of my zone and it has survived in a little micro climate area I found on the east side of my house
spilling over a boulder wall!! The heat from the rocks helps keep them surviving!!
I just ordered another Montana "Broughton". Does anyone have it? I was wondering if it is
fragrant, floriferous, and color intensity?? Can anyone shed light before my order hits!! They will be connected together not like the ones in the picture but as tall!!!

Wow, 70 clems? Now that is a lot! LOL We had a privacy fence built and I had my DH build this other fence, onto the PF, from talking to Debbie on the phone.....LOL....She explained to him how to build it.....I love her!!

See how he did it?

Closer......

Let me tell you, DH razzed me all summer about how he just HAD to build it NOW, because it had to be built before the plants came....LOL.....and then they did not cover the fence YET! But this year, and NEXT year should be awesome!! Debbie helped me pick somewhat, as I just want that fence covered.....and they will!!! :-)

Really looks good Lucy...did you get you a Princess Diana shes a good one???mines huge and blooms all summer till frost...

Is'nt it nice to have Debbie to help us???shes not only a grower shes our friend!!:o)

Pearisburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Jazzzzy, I love the idea of the fence. The clematis will be beautiful on this fence and provide beauty on both sides. I have 3 panels of the white plastic fencing that you never paint. They are expensive but they look great with my house. I want to buy a panel each payday until I finish one side. I need the solid panel - which does have an open pattern on top - so I can block the neighbors big dog - cause my 3 shih tzus bark at their dog all day.

DigMontana,
Did you check with Debbie about the Black Prince?

Shirley,
Have you ordered from Silver Star?

Pearisburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Debbie has helped me with tons of projects. She's very creative and has emailed me lots of pictures of her creations

Anyway, the fence with the wire is a great idea. Leave it to Debbie. That would also make a great screen for grapes.

Kathy

Schererville, IN(Zone 5a)

Thanks!!

I would have to go look at my tags to see which ones I have, but I am pretty sure I do not have Princess Diana.....I am going now to look her up! Yes, Debbie is a good friend, isn't she! Good people for sure!!:-)

Fenton, MI(Zone 5b)

Hey Kathy I only wish that was my fence!! I am having a screen built because I want the feel
that it provides and I don't want my neighbors to feel blocked out they soo enjoy my garden!!
Lucy, I do like the screen on the fence for maximum Clems!! LOL, LOL!
I'll but your hubby didn't realize you could now order every clem you always wanted!!! LOL!
You do really have to have great set ups like your fence to grow a variety of Clems.
I can't wait to see your pictures this year. please post!!
I think alot of mine will be at their best this year as i got most in the last 3-4 years.
I can not wait until summer.
Cute little doggy!! That is the reason I wish I had a fence, so my dogs could run free in the flowers! I have 3 smallerish ( thats not a word) dogs.

Yes I did ask Debbie about Black Prince and she said she is still testing it. Thanks

Richmond Hill, GA

Lucy, Where did you find your green wire? I've been looking for some ever since the link for House of Climbers was posted. She stated it was sold at Home Depot and Lowe's but I've checked and neither store stock it. Thanks for your help. Great fence by the way.
Arlene

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

shihtzumom: Yes, I have ordered from Debbie many, many times.

Schererville, IN(Zone 5a)

Morning Arlene...

We got it at Menards, but both Lowe's and Home Depot should have it....go to the building department and ask. It comes in a roll......I don't know that the fence has a name, but I will ask DH tonight....Good Luck!!

Lincoln Park, MI(Zone 5a)

Hi Kathy....gotta know did you get all your Clematis from SilverStarVinery planted yet???mine should be here next month still to cold here!!Did you get Princess Diana???shes my favorite...LOL...ask Debbie!!!^_^

Pearisburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Yes, all my clematis are planted. I can't wait to see the tie died one I got last fall. The pictures are beautiful. I received the roses from Palatines and planted those beside some of the clematis I just received. I planted Santana climber with purple clematis - I'm terrible with names. But they are on my white picket fence. Can't wait to post pictures. The Palatine roses were huge too.

Let me know when you get the clematis. This weather is crazy. It was 70s 4 days in a row, today's high may reach 50.

Kathy
