Who is Coming to My House in February??

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

TJ, I went and looked at that vinca today. It is everywhere! I am going to dig up 3-4 pots for you, and then it's scheduled to be removed on Friday. If you want more, you can have all you want--hey, you could have the whole courtyard full! But if you do, please let me know asap, so I can tell the guy not to tear it all out.

You are welcome to come and get it, if you don't want to wait, or if you want a whole lot. But if 3-4 pots is enough, I may make it to the party at your house after all. If not, maybe Dawn or Carla or someone who lives closer wouldn't mind taking it.

Waxahachie, TX(Zone 8a)

I can come dig it myself Pattie. Just d-mai the directions and I'll let you know when I can come. Thanks!

Dallas, TX

I want some too :/ ... pouting ... is it shade or sun?

Denton, TX(Zone 7a)

Vinca is primarily, a shade plant.

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

Sylvia, the last thing you need is this little vinca climbing all over your hostas!

I'm sure we can save you a couple of pieces if you really want it. But... seriously... it escaped my dad's pot and has completely taken over his courtyard. It's pretty, though.

Wow, I've been so busy I'm just now catching up.
Melva, it was really good to get to meet you. Thank you for the soup, it was wonderful. I need to come by again in a few weeks to see your beautiful roses bloom!
Sylvia and Sheila, it was good to get to see you both again. Sheila, thank you for sharing your seeds! (and your shoulder.)
Liz, it was nice to meet you, your bread was terrific.
Patti, Cocoa and Bronc, it was great to finally meet you all, and I look forward to seeing you all again soon. TJ, I can't wait for the Waxahachie round up!
Cocoa, the candies were sinfully good. If you think of it, send me the link to the thread you were talking about regarding the east Texas nursery run.

I did take a few pictures, but they didn't come out great. I should have taken before and after shots, but we were almost done before I even remembered I brought my camera.

Our wonderful TJ.

Well, it sure looks like you guys had a wonderful time, I wish i could have been there.

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/813552/ Dawn, here is the link we discussed getting together for the day. I'll d-mail ya, when we get closer to the date. It would be great if you could come along and show us the nursery you were talking about too.

Josephine, how did your day turn out? Did you get many shrubs pulled?

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes, we had about 20 people show up and we removed most of the privet, the woods are being invaded by it to the point that there is no room for the native plants.
We have to battle it all the time, but we are winning.

Good for you, Josephine. that's got to be a good feeling for a job well done. Where is all the privet coming from, a residential area? I never noticed privet in our woods, but I'll keep a closer watch for sure.

Melva, I didn't forget about our chat. I've looked and looked for a photo of Nana Kitty. I have plenty of them in frames but, none in files. She must have passed away before we had a digital camera.

Cocoa, I am sure the birds brought it from peoples yards, but boy oh boy, it is trying to take over.
We gave it a whipping though, that will hold it back for a while.

Sylvia your babies sure are pretty, I love cats.

Hey! What was the name of the Aster that Liz gave us at Melva's?

Dallas, TX

Idon't know ... I did'nt get any .... maybe I got there a little to late. lol Marylee gave me some beautiful Asters last year.

Rowlett, TX(Zone 8a)

Sylvia, your cats are adorable. I have a real soft spot for orange tabbies. (And most others, it would seem, as I have 5 cats.)

Carla , is you Tabby a he or a she? the nurse told me that orange tabbys are usually male and a female is a rarity. Sara is a girl of course. :)

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

Privet is probably mostly spread by wildlife....the tallow trees also are invasive. I've had tallows come up in my yard and nobody with properties next to me has it growing. I get rid of it right aways before it gets past the little seedling stage. Oh...orange female cats aren't rare. I have one called Missy. She's one we rescued as a kitten from a bad situation. The poor little thing had such a little body with a big head...hadn't been fed much. When we offered her a bowl of catfood, she put her front paws in the food bowl and looked around growling at any other cat that she saw, sure devoured that catfood fast. Took her a while to realize she wouldn't have to fight for every morsel of food. We put her on kitten food and vitamins and she slowly started growing to a normal size for her age. She usually sleeps right next to me....gets cold easily.

Waxahachie, TX(Zone 8a)

Male calicos are rare! That's all I know.

Rowlett, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes, female orange kitties are rare (or, at the least, much less common).

In a nutshell: "The Red gene (O) is carried on the X chromosome; for this reason it is sex-linked. Males normally only have one X chromosome and so if a male carries the Red gene at all, he will be Red. Females have two X chromosomes; if both X chromosomes carry the Red gene, then the cat will be Red. However, many females carry the Red gene on only one chromosome, which allows the black-based pigmentation to show through in patches. This combination of red and black is called Tortoiseshell."

So, in other words, a male with any red gene at all will definitely be red; a female will not be red unless she has two X chromosomes, both carrying a red gene. So, while there are some red females, they are much less common than red males."

So you and Linda are lucky indeed to have female orange kitties.

Bronc,

I have joined DG- so now I can read the threads.

Sheila you told me that funny story of how your husband teases you about your time at Dave's. Mine is teasing me now as well,

The aster were October Skies. The salvia is Blue Bedder Sage.

Thanks for inviting a newbie, I felt truly welcome.

Sylvia, I will forward on recipes once I dig them out.

Melva, thanks for letting me come!
