And when in February, should we plan this shindig? I can provide drinks, (soft drinks and Tea) and something to eat...what would be good? I think it would be fun if we have kind of a pot luck...so bring your pruners and gloves and a dish of some kind....(and a chair, we will need chairs)
UPDATED!! February 9th, 2008 Two weeks away, I need a head count, and need to know who is bringing, what.
Also bring clippers and gloves too.
This is going to be the 23d which is a Saturday. I am going to make a big pot of soup...others are bringing other things to eat, and there will be things to drink..Tea (sweet and unsweet) and soft drinks too. Please let me know who is coming, and what you are bringing to eat.
We are aiming to start by 10am, but that is a wobbly time.
Don't forget to bring a chair or two.
Looking forward to seeing everyone..
Mitch, are you going to be there? Bronc, needs another male....

Who is Coming to My House in February??
Don't know about it... details?
Melva I would like to come, but not sure if I will be available, I will see as the time gets closer.
Josephine.
In February, I was going to have a 'work party' at my house...people were going to come and help me tame the yard...prune roses, and other things and pull weeds (there are a lot of weeds!)
I talked to some people about this, at the Swap, and on here...I think it will be fun. I had a similar thing, a couple of years ago with people I had met online on Gardenweb...18 people came and we worked for awhile, and then broke for lunch, and worked some more...
We just had pizza that time, from pizzahut....maybe we should do that this time?
So cocoalulu is going to be there! Great! It will be after Valentines, since we are going to prune roses...
I am going to have to get busy cleaning the house....that is a given
I'll be there with pruners in hand!
Thank you Bronc, knowing what is here to be done, you are a brave man! I will have oddles of plants to give away..roses and other things..bring a shovel too, in case there is something you want, that will need to be dug.
NO MORE ROSES!!! For now. (~:
Okay, no arm twisting, LOL!
Melva,
This is for a weekend I presume? If so, I will definitely try to be there. I missed everyone at the roundup this year, but I experienced it vicariously through the threads. I was especially sorry to miss your rose cutting demonstration.
I can bring pruners, gloves, a sharp shooter, chairs and of course something to eat. Anything else?
Oh yes, it will be a weekend, probably a Saturday....I haven't looked at a calendar yet.
Sounds like you have it covered...depending upon how warm it will be, insect repellant might be needed.
oooh, another demo and cuttings? Now I know I have to come.
Hmmm, maybe sunscreen too. This is Texas after all.
Horsie is a beauty.
Melva, I will try to come, depending on the date. Sometime towards the end of Feb I need to help Sylvia put in a pond, and that may take a couple of weekends. Otherwise I'll be glad to help.
What about Saturday, the 15th of February?
The next Saturday?
The weather is hard to predict anytime, but in the spring....
Most of mine still have leaves..some of the Gallica's leaves have turned red...
Melva I would have to say yes! with all the peeps that have come to my place to help me. I would love it and I would bring a dish ... but you dont want me trying to prune anything! LOL!
Sylvia
Sylvia,
There is a lot more to do besides pruning..I am embarassed at all the beds just full of weeds
as with everything I will have to check the calendar at the restaurant and see what is booked in events as Saturdays are usually the day they take place since we are closed on Sundays.
So IF it is free and they have new wait staff hired I might be able to get away...remind me so I don't forget to check and let ya know if I can make it ...haven't been to Denton yet LOL
Can't say a definate yes, but I will try and keep an eye on the thread. I have volunteered to help with the Tropical Butterfly Exhibit at FW Botanic Garden. Not sure if they will be working me prior to show in March.
BTW,,,,....I show Feb 15th as a Friday. So will it be the 16th or the 22nd?
The 23d, a Saturday

LOL, now I am doing it! No, it is the 23rd! So that is the day for sure?
As sure as I can be...(which at times, is not very)
Melva, I dont know how much weeding you going to get out of me either, you should see my place. I am in the process of getting one of those Hula Hoes and one those sponge things that you put weed killer in and mop the roots of the weeds. If I receive it time I will bring it with ... Or ... maybe I can just walk around with a tray of drinks! LOL
Sheila ... don't you say one smart thing! you know what kind of shape I am in.LMAO!
Sounds good Cocoa. are you using the cardboard to black out the weeds. You just made me remember I got two rolls of that blackout cloth I could use. If I put it down now will it get rid of it before spring?
from reading I have done different places using the black works to kill off the weeds and bamboo since the sun doesn't get to them and they of course need that to grow LOL...I wish I could come over and help the 23rd but if I recall right we have a wedding reception going on and since we are now short handed I know I can't get off then :((
We need to decide who is bringing what...I was going to make a big pot of soup or chili...I will have Iced Tea for anyone who wants that..and napkins and stuff too.
It is getting closer, we need to have more of a certain count (as certain as we can be)
I'm planning on coming, Melva.
BTW, what did you ever do with your thunbergia? Mine wasn't doing well in the house, so I put it in the garage. It died back and now it has all kinds of new growth coming out. ::beam::
I did like you...it looked sad inside, so it has been in the garage..I haven't noticed any new growth but I am hopeful...
I look forward to seeing you again. You can dig some Rose of Sharon while you are here, if you want...or a number of other things...
what do you think you are going to bring as far as food?
I plan on coming melva, and the homemade soup sounds delicious! Would you like me to bring cornbread? What other items could people bring? Also what time will we be getting together?
Sylvia...Don't forget to bring your green kneeler/bench. I am bringing mine to protect my back!
Sheila_FW
Melva I would love to come, but that day we are having a birthday celebration
for Molly Hollar she is the lady that I work with at the wildscape, she is turning 80, and I just can,t miss that, we are having a work party at the wildscape.
I could come the following day Sunday the 24th, but changing the date might make a problem for others. So please let me know, I don't want disrupt things, however I would like to be of help at your house as well, that chili sounds great.
Josephine.
Well, how about if I bring tortilla chips, and something for dessert? I'll have to think about what.
